Palin’s Announcement: The Annotated Version
Palin’s complete remarks on her resignation are quite rambling, odd and vague.
Political operatives descended on Alaska last August, digging for dirt. The ethics law I championed became their weapon of choice. Over the past nine months I’ve been accused of all sorts of frivolous ethics violations – such as holding a fish in a photograph, wearing a jacket with a logo on it, and answering reporters’ questions.
How about the part where an ethics report declared you wrongfully fired the state safety commissioner because of a family grudge?
…all 15 of the ethics complaints have been dismissed. We’ve won!
See above, which references a bipartisan report detailing abuse of power.
It’s pretty insane – my staff and I spend most of our day dealing with THIS instead of progressing our state now.
Didn’t you just say you were cleared of everything?
I choose NOT to tear down and waste precious time; but to build UP this state and our country, and her industrious, generous, patriotic, free people!
By quitting the job of serving them?
…it may be tempting and more comfortable to just keep your head down, plod along, and appease those who demand: “Sit down and shut up”, but that’s the worthless, easy path; that’s a quitter’s way out.
And your way out is to, er—quit.
It would be apathetic to just hunker down and “go with the flow”.
So, if you were to keep your commitment to serve the people of your state, that would be apathetic?
I WILL support others who seek to serve, in or out of office, for the RIGHT reasons, and I don’t care what party they’re in or no party at all. Inside Alaska – or Outside Alaska.
How about those in the Alaska Independence Party, dedicated to seceding from the United States?
I thought about how much fun some governors have as lame ducks… travel around the state, to the Lower 48 (maybe), overseas on international trade – as so many politicians do. And then I thought – that’s what’s wrong – many just accept that lam.e duck status, hit the road, draw the paycheck, and “milk it”. I’m not putting Alaska through that…
There are states, like Virginia, where every governor is a lame duck because of term limits. There is another option for a lame duck governor, other than accepting lame duck status. That would be going to work every day.
I am determined to take the right path for Alaska even though it is unconventional and not so comfortable.
So the right path for Alaska is you not running it?
I have given my reasons candidly and truthfully…
When? To whom?
I cannot stand here as your Governor and allow millions upon millions of our dollars go to waste just so I can hold the title of Governor.
I thought you said all ethics questions were behind you.
Let’s just say, this decision has been in the works for awhile…
Although, you gave no indication to others close to you, like Senator Paul Begich, during a 45 minute meeting two days before the announcement.
we can ALL learn from our selfless Troops… they’re bold, they don’t give up, they take a stand and know that LIFE is short so they choose to NOT waste time. They choose to be productive and to serve something greater than SELF
Yes, and troops don’t go AWOL without consequences. They don’t give up and waste time, because leaving their commitment to serve would be doing just that; unless you think such commitment is wasting time.
I love my job and I love Alaska. It hurts to make this choice but I am doing what’s best for Alaska. I’ve explained why…
No you haven’t.
I am taking my fight for what’s right – for Alaska – in a new direction.
Would that be out of Alaska?
So God bless you, and from me and my family – to ALL Alaska – you have my heart.
That’s nice, now where’s the rest of you going?

OK, Alaska gets a buck eighty-four for every dollar it contributes to the federal treasury, SO PLEASE GO AHEAD AND SECEDE! And take Mississippi with you!
And don’t get this idea that you’re going to pawn off Sarah Palin and family on the lower 48. She’s yours and yours alone.

Nobody but a Republican can quit their job and make it sound like they are running for president and then have a pack of people blindly support them for it.
Only in Neo-Con Land….

one thought as i watch the fireworks display; As i listen to the reports from the rockets and the explosions in the air; i am reminded of the war. thinking of all the wars fought by americans. As the rockets red glare, those bombs bursting in air, (this is where i’d change it up a little.) Gave hope thru the night that our country is still there. Not trying to be funny. Our country is slowly turning into a nitemare of treason, butchery of a constitution, and everything except a free nation. God help us all; and God Bless America

Excellent questions you asked Alan, none of which will be coherently answered by the source.
Just my opinion, but I think Saint Sarah feels she’s too big to just be governor of little ole Alaska anymore. And there’s money to me made as well.

“I love my job and I love Alaska so … I QUIT!!”
The Palin gibberish sounds oddly, vaguely familiar.
I know!!! It’s because it sounds just like Bush gibberish used to sound!!

Down goes Palin, again

This is pathetic,
So then, this is your deal. “Let’s attack a governor that we hate.”
The country is awash in congressional sloth and debilitating debt. Democrats and republicans sign bills without reading them, vote themselves incredible benefits and perks..
If and when the country goes down the crapper, we will have ourselves to blame.
Yeah, let’s all get Sarah Palin. That’s productive and responsible.

You know what’s funny?
When they (the Dems) were the minority voice they all constantly pleaded for bi-partisan cooperation.
It’s pretty obvious that bi-partisan cooperation was never their real goal, it was nothing but a Trojan horse all along………
GuidoVanHorn Reply:

the minority always wants bi-partisan cooperation, because it gives them a sense of power, which is all any “good” politician wants anyway.

Zero votes for the Stimulus … zero.
I’m going to come over to your house and spit on face … then I’m going to sit down and talk about how we all can work it out.
Bipartisanship is a two-way street. If the other party is calling you ’socialist’ and using propaganda in place of facts … then bipartisanship only equates to approval of such tactics.
Who know what’s funny?
Conservatives run this nation into the grond and then are so selfish and absent of all integrity that that presume to blame everyone but themselves for their actions.
They are like drug addicts. They will blame an innocent person and laugh as this person serves time for their crimes, so long as they never have to face the damage they have wrought.

Try again. He was the president of eight years.
Are we going to debate that as ‘fact or not’ next?
Was everything that happens under a Republican president just fall into a void and everything that a Democrat president trumpets into problems for the nation?
It’s disgraceful and disgusting that people whop supported this man can stand there and ignore history and all facts. It’s downright unamerican.
If Obama makes a bunch of bad moves and screws up the liberals of this nation will PROVE they are the ONLY people left in this nation worth salt because they will not play this ‘I didn’t do it’ game that insults the nation and insults the world.

LMDAO; you liberals done it now. Sara is free from the governor’s post. you unleashed the rath of a woman. You won’t be able to tie her down with unfounded accusations; re; alaska. As yamamota said after attacking Pearl Harbor.(I’m afraid we have awakened a sleeping giant.) She has us, as Real Americans, true backing and support for what ever she decides to do. That, my friends will mount and mount to an advance of truth that not even the Annointed one will be able to stop.

“She has us, as Real Americans”
You’re not a ‘real’ American.
You’re a clone. No independent thinking, no self-critisms, no room for any person who might be opposed to your social agenda …
She quit her job. Her walked away like a coward from the end of her term. She is a quitter and a loser.
Only in the mind of a hardcore partisan can someone flip this around and make it everyone else’s fault.
Face it: Sara Palin let you down.
July 5th, 2009 at 1:13 am
Alan;
You got butkiss!
Let’s see, how about you try another four articles about the greatest demon of the universe, sarah palin. Maybe you can talk about her clothes, or her family, or her guns, her experience, her misstatements of the past.
She’s quitting but unfortunately for us, 70% of the congressman (republicans and democrats) who are making a mockery of representative government, are still in office. Do you cover them? No; you’re too busy creating partisan hatefulness at the expense of helpful investigative journalism.
You are part of the problem in America. You are part of the media that has become a joke! Investigative journalism – right!
Why don’t you go after the crooks who are destroying us. Afraid some of them might be democrats? Trust me, they are (and republicans as well).

I thought it was Barack Obama?
“Investigative journalism”
Whan did Alan ever say that he was an investigative journalist? Alan is a talk show host, commentator and entertainer. He is also a liberal who talks about politics from his viewpoint and does it with a sense of humor and satire.
If you want investigative journalism you might try… hmmmm… Glenn Beck?

“She’s quitting but unfortunately for us, 70% of the congressman (republicans and democrats) who are making a mockery of representative government, are still in office”
So were the Republicans making a mockery of Congress in the pat years too?
Are all people in government, by value of being in government, a mockery?
Or is it that you’re a blind partisan who attacks anyone who speaks out against your precious party? And you yourself could care less about this nation and what it stands for if you are so offended by the freedom of speech.

Furyus,
You want a one party government with NO balance of power??
EricG Reply:
July 5th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
That was Bush’s idea of ‘good government.’
Removing checks and balances and isolating his decision making process. Signing ‘loyality oaths’ and more and more.
I think the Republican Mantra revolves around a one-party government being the only thing that’s right for America. It’s the only logical thing to think of a party that does almost nothing but demonize the other side.
blissfulconservative Reply:

Eric
This from a guy who is LOVING the fact that we have a democratic president with a democratic congress.
Are you saying the democrats, who have boasted that they now have TOTAL control weren’t ecstatic that the checks and balances have gone out the window?
Are you actually asserting that there aren’t so called “loyalty oaths” on both sides of the aisle??
EricG Reply:
July 5th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
“a guy who is LOVING”
Once again you put words in my mouth. I am not in ‘love’ with this presidency. I have a few major gripes but I find them well covered in the editorials I read. I suppose I could do a few negative Obama posts, for balance. Nobody listens to me anyway….
“weren’t ecstatic that the checks and balances have gone out the window?”
I wasn’t. Most Democrats are not. The issue is about the people the power NEVER want to give that power up and it’s true for both parties. Nobody is clean on that issue, and yet Bush was the spearhead — thus he gets much attention.
“Are you actually asserting that there aren’t so called “loyalty oaths” on both sides of the aisle??”
What oath did Joe the Plumber take before asking Obama that stupid question the election?
What oath did Hellen Thomas take before she grilled Obama in person the other day?
We, the Democrats, demand nothing in terms of oaths or special promises. We want people to leave the party if they find nothing in common with the express stated goals of the party.
But in Republican politics it seems that only ‘intelligent’ and ‘mature’ and ‘religious’ people can possibly understand these great conservative ‘wisdoms.’
Just an impression I get. I call it ‘elistism.’
That whole ‘I’m too good to talk to you’ thing…
And I really do think it’s the conservatives hiding in the dark while we liberals walk in the light of day with our opinions and agendas.
” we have a democratic president with a democratic congress. ”
Better than a Republican president with a Republican Congress, but not as good as having a divided government. I don’t vote on party lines … last person in America willing to vote for the candidate and not the letter after their name on my TV screen, right here.
