One Congressman Won’t Acknowledge That Slave Labor Built DC

July 8th, 2009, 4:38 PM EDT

And that would be Congressman Steve King of Iowa, who bravely stood against 299 of his colleagues by refusing to allow a plaque that would honor slaves who helped construct the US Capitol.  King says he doesn’t like what he views as frivolous resolutions, although in 2007 he was upset with Democrats who didn’t sign on to his resolution, “recognizing the importance of Christmas and the Christian faith.”

Any relation to Long Island’s Peter King ?

    Rocky the Liberal Rottweiler Reply:

Yeah, they’re both racist sacks of crap.

Peter King represents Great Neck, which is 85% white. And, needless to say, if he represented Wyandanch, which is 78% black, he would’ve been out in LA this week attending a funeral.

    hhhhhah Reply:

So because an area of the contry is 85% white that makes them all racist. Does that mean the area that is 78% black is also racist.
    Which is it?

You are being racist by assuming that all people of the white race will be racist when representing an 85% white population.
    You racist pig!….Just joking.

    average james Reply:

    Get it right HHHHHAH,

That would be ‘ You racist dog! ‘.

    We’re here to help.

Gotta roll, talk at you all later.

    It’s neither.

King (of Long Island) has been talking to his 85% white constituency, who, he hopes, have no particular fondness for MJ.

King (of Iowa), meanwhile, talks to his 96% white constituency, who probably think only “christians” should be allowed to vote, only whites should be allowed to own guns, and any slaves who helped build Washington should have thanked the slavers for bringing them to live in the greatest country on the face of the earth.

The guy probably never even met a black person face-to-face till he arrived in Washington to take his seat in the senate.

Rocky….your posts come across as increasingly more ignorant than the people you claim are ignorant.

    Daddio Reply:

That’s Rocky for you Guido. He is irrelevant as far as I am concerned.

    TDro319 Reply:

Interesting, you say Rocky is “ignorant” and “irrelevent”. And yet, you come here daily to read Rocky’s posts.

Recognizing ignorant, irrelevant posts doesn’t mean you can’t read them, and you also assume that Daddio actually reads Rocky’s posts.

    We do?

The site is located at Alan.com, just fyi…..

Saying we come here with the express purpose of reading Rocky’s posts is entirely inaccurate.

But then inaccuracy and mischaracterization are just some of the tools in your toolbelt.

    Daddio reads???

“But then inaccuracy and mischaracterization are just some of the tools in your toolbelt.”

I must’ve picked in up from you. You’re so good at innacuracy and mischaracterizations. And whining about us evil pacifist peace loving liberals! I can imagine how much we must really get under your skin.

  2. This guy was the lone republican doing his best to make his party irrelevant? I can’t believe none of the others took the opportunity to make the Republican party look bad, they must have not been paying attention to the party of Limbaugh’s goals…

  3. I agree that congress should be doing more worthy things than frivolous resolutions…however if you are going to propose frivolous resolutions you can’t then turn around and claim you voted against something because it was frivolous.

    TDro319 Reply:

Congress IS doing something more important. They’re working on “recognizing the importance of Christmas and the Christian faith”.

And you thought the tanking ecomony, skyrocketing unemployment and 2 wars was important. Now before you go off the deep end, I was being facetious.

  4. Typical liberal. Always living in the past. Slavery ended over 145 years ago. Let’s move on with our lives. It really isn’t important who built what when.

    pierre Reply:

Yes, but mental slavery lives on.
Bill O’Reilly/ Lou Doobs are against Mexican immigrants because they fear the dilution of the white/european lineage.
Bill O’Reilly is even so outrage for a black man(MJ) to adopt white sperms to create a normal human family.
Remember the leader who wanted to purify the “so called better human lineage”.

Conservatives are the ones living in the past. That’s practically the definition of conservative: someone who wants to keep the status quo and return to the “good ol’ days”.

There are a lot of reactionary conservatives who are nostalgic for the time when the “coloreds” knew their place. Right, Daddio?

Ignoring history, especially when that history continues to affect us, serves the purposes of right-wingers who don’t care about those who sacrificed so much in the constructiuon of the country.

Are you among lots of those progressive liberals who are baby killers, Jasper?

    TDro319 Reply:

You guessed it Flap. We’re all baby killers! Yep. We usually hunt them during a full moon, when they’re out feeding under the cover of night. We wait until they bend to drink from a creek and BLAM! A bullet hits them right between the eyes.

Then we drag them home and have them stuffed and mounted as trophies for our walls.

Do you not see the IDIOCY of JasperJava’s statement, TDro? That’s why I made that statement…to make an IDIOTIC statement of my own.

    TDro319 Reply:

Guido: Don’t turn us into the Games commission for killing babies out of season.

“to make an IDIOTIC statement of my own.”

So you felt it necessary to make and idiotic statement to counter what you considered an idiotic statement. I guess you need to be conservative to understand that logic.

    flap Reply:

“So you felt it necessary to make and idiotic statement to counter what you considered an idiotic statement.”

Of course. People on this board, including you, make outlandish statements all the time, so why can’t I? And you DO do it all the time when I make valid points about abortion, you replace a few words about war, add in “Dick Cheney is evil,” and expect it to fly. I guess you need to be liberal to understand that logic.

So you think Daddio is a racist, then, who prefers “coloreds” to be in their proper places?

  5. Yet again, Alan’s headline is misleading. This guy didn’t refuse to acknowledge slave labor – he refused to post a plaque honoring it. Two completely different things. He’s right. It’s frivolous, and maybe now that this seminal issue has been dealt with we can get back to obviously less important things like the economy.

  6. All of the South has been built on the backs of slaves, and the same as the North. Free labor, and if you die, they just dump you into a shallow grave and have a ten year old to fill in.

BTW, liberals do not look backwards, we look forward, to see the bigger picture and then again, you cannot go forward until you clean up a mess that was made for eight years. I see world peace in the near future. (Wishful Thinking).
