Another GOPer Uses Racist Comments Vs. Obama
Atwater, CA councilman Gary Frago continues the trend of using racial comments and imagery to criticize the president. Think Progress has links to a slew of examples of such unconsciousness. The Merced Sun-Star obtained 7 e-mails sent between October 2008 and February 2009 to city workers and other prominent citizens racially deriding President Obama, the First Lady and blacks in general.
Some compared Obama to O.J. Simpson while others suggested that “nigger rigs” should now be called “presidential solutions.”
Perhaps the most overboard e-mail was sent on Jan. 15. It read: “Breaking News Playboy just offered Sarah Palin $1 million to pose nude in the January issue. Michelle Obama got the same offer from National Geographic.”
Frago says he was just forwarding emails others send him and he sees no harm in them.
“I don’t see where there’s a story, I’m not the only one that does it,” he said. “I didn’t originate them, they came to me and I just passed them on.”
Frago said he sends all kinds of joke e-mails about every one from Jews to Portuguese (Frago is of Portuguese descent). These e-mails were just meant for friends, not public officials, he added. Frago said any e-mails were sent via personal accounts.
I feel so much better now, knowing that Jews were included, too. For a moment there I was feeling left out. And how reassuring to know that Frago isn’t the only one spreading bigotry.
Those who could be identified were Bob Rieger, a retired Atwater city works employee; Michael McIntyre, a Merced resident; and Lee Aldridge, a retired Air Force colonel in Alabama.
Most of the recipients said they do not recall receiving the e-mails and several of the senders either do not remember sending them or claim they were not meant to be harmful.

A bigot is a person who is intolerant of any differing opinions other than his own. It doesn’t mean you want to refuse them the right to practice their beliefs. By that definition Eric, you are a bigot.
You are intolerant of any Christian who believes gay marriage is a sin. You are intolerant of anyone who believes the wars were justified. You are intolerant of anyone who believes it isn’t the job of government to provide healthcare and a safety net.

I hate the idea of denying people their rights on accounts of religious bias, and the behaviour to deny them their rights does come down to being a bigot, which is what Eric originally said.

He was a great man(IMHO) but he was also a politician. His philosophies influenced greatly India’s socialist tilt for about 50 years, which pushed MY country back a lot. Everyday on my way to work, there’s a poor Soul screaming to the top of his lungs at the Railway Station. Irritates the hell out of me. Atleast if he’s reading passages from the Bible, I’ll like to listen. He mostly reads out some interpreted Crap (One of his “Best” pieces was how God is responsible for Good things that happen to you, and The Devil is responsible for the Bad things that happen to you).
Knowing how irritating I find it,I cant rationalize myself preaching to others.

You leave a bunch of human beings in a free market situation, they will arrange themselves according to the laws of natural selection (most of the time),and there is a huge bell region in the distribution of capabilities of human beings.So, the middle class would have been built even with a free market system. Time is the only factor.
Even in a socialist system, or socialist influenced system, nature’s law will find its way, except people will have to use loopholes in the law, or resort to breaking the law to find nature’s equilibrium. But nature’s equilibrium will find its way,and time is the factor. Just that I find it an (relatively) uncivilized approach to find that natural equilibrium.

This kind of slime from a lot of right-wingers is unending. I saw it before the election for over a year and since the day Obama took office. There’s plenty of the same racism against Michelle too.
What Alan posts is only a tiny percentage of what’s out there and is posted on Alan’s site only to give a small example of the racist hatred that unfortunately still exists.
Every time though, something like this is posted, it never seems to bother most conservatives in the least. It never does and it never did. It bothers me though. And it bothered enough people like me thoughout our history so that discrimination is against the law and blacks and other minorities can have more of an equal footing. Happy and proud to be liberal.

Communism and socialism are words one can say with a certain lip posture and manage to end with a high thrill pitch to gain attention and make them sound horrible for the average person. But the actual beliefs encompassed in each are far from the liberal thought process of the democratic persons on the left in this country. Why right wingers like to use these malaprops as a stand in for my beliefs, other than effect (choking), I don’t know.
Liberals wish to do useful things for those below them on the ladder of education, dollars and success using government when government is the best direct route to achieving equity.
Conservatives are generally happy with the way things are…they like to conserve! Conserve their wealth, conserve their power status, conserve their social positions, conserve their advantages lost to others by reason of race, religion, gender and sexual orientation. In short they like hat they have and don’t want to share. In part this is from inborn meaness. That many hold to fundamentalist Christianity is a bit of an oxymoron for they seem to me to be least likely to follow Christ’s charitable directions and his love towards others. I guess when you are on top, whether deserving or not, you desire to stay there nad resist others getting a fair shake.

Socialism was practiced first at Plymouth with the Pilgrims. They almost starved until they turned to capitalism then had enough to sell to others. Communisim failed in the USSR, with millions murdered for the expense of the state. I wonder if all those millions that were murdered feel like communisim is just an empty word. These are ideas that have failed over and over.
To simply say, liberals are nice because they believe in using the goverment to help the less fortunate, leaves out the other side of the equation that requires gov’t to punish success so they can feel better about themselves, as long as they of course are exempted out, like congress is doing on health care, or like they do on dodging their taxes.
Conseratives are so mean,,, yes they are. That is why they give more to charities than liberals. That is why the Dem’s have cut charitable giving deductions so that they and only they can decide who is deserving of charity, i.e. people that will vote for them. Lib’s don’t care to help people, only micro manage their lives. They don’t want our opinions just our tax revenues. That is why they pass hate legislation to constrain freedom of speech. Yes,,, how wonderfully nice you lib’s are.

These may not be racial comments because we do not know President Obama’s race because we have not seen his birth certificate. There is a strong possibility that he may not be a black man but he is a white man pretending to be a black man and he could possibly be an Arab pretending to be a black man and until we see that birth certificate this question will weigh heavily on our minds.

doing a quick google search, it appears that some people from the area are claiming he’s a registered democrat.
The Atwater website doesn’t list the city councilmembers political affiliation.
I haven’t seen anything conclusive.
