Palin: “I Am Not A Quitter”

“I am not a quitter. I am a fighter,” declared Sarah Palin during a round of interviews about her quitting.

She resigned because of the tremendous pressure, time and financial burden of a litany of ethics complaints in the past several months, she said. The complaints were without merit and took away from the job she wanted to do for Alaskans, Palin said.

At a forum sponsored by Newsweek in August 2008, remarking on Hillary Clinton’s complaints about unfair media coverage, Palin had this to say:

You gotta to plow through that. You have to know what …

Shannyn Moore Will Not Be Muzzled

The Alaska blogger takes great exception to being threatened with a lawsuit because she reported that there were rumors of wrongdoing by Palin.

…Palin attorney Thomas Van Flein on Saturday warned legal action may be taken against bloggers and publications that reprint what he calls fraudulent claims.

“To the extent several websites, most notably liberal Alaska blogger Shannyn Moore, are now claiming as ‘fact’ that Governor Palin resigned because she is ‘under federal investigation’ for embezzlement or other criminal wrongdoing, we will be exploring legal options this week to address such defamation,” Van Flein said in a statement. “This …

GW Bush: Happiness Is Saddam’s Gun

06gunspan

Historian Douglas Brinkley says Bush 43′s pride in having Saddam Hussein’s gun offers a psychological window into Bush’s view of the presidency.  The gun, found in the spider hole where Saddam was located, is headed for the presidential library with Bush’s blessing.

For nearly five years, Mr. Bush kept the mounted, glass-encased pistol in the Oval Office or a study, showing it with pride, especially to military officials, they said. He also let visitors in on a secret: when the pistol was recovered, it was unloaded.

“We were getting ready to leave the Oval Office, and he told us, …

Congressman Peter King Unloads On “Lowlife” Michael Jackson And The Media

Long Island Congressman Peter King is bent out of shape because he feels the media has “disgraced” itself with the coverage of Michael Jackson’s death.

King said the King of Pop, who died last week, may have been a good singer or dancer, but he was a low life, child molester and a pedophile.

“He died he had some talent, fine, but there are people dying every day,” King said in a YouTube video, adding “There’s nothing good about this guy.”

Robert McNamara’s About Face

robert_mcnamara

With the death at 93 of former Defense Secretary Robert McNamara, moral and ethical questions come to mind.  Here is a man who promoted escalating a war about which he had grave doubts.

“In Retrospect: The Tragedy and Lessons of Vietnam” appeared in 1995. McNamara disclosed that by 1967 he had deep misgivings about Vietnam – by then he had lost faith in America’s capacity to prevail over a guerrilla insurgency that had driven the French from the same jungled countryside.

Despite those doubts, he had continued to express public confidence that the application of enough American firepower …

Alaska Gov-To-Be Says Legal Bills Led To Resignation

LtGovParnell

Sean Parnell (r), Alaska’s Lt. Governor and soon-to-be chief, says it was the costs of legal investigations that prompted Sarah Palin to resign.

“I think what I heard from the governor,” Mr. Parnell said on “Fox News Sunday,” “really had to do with the weight on her, the concern she had for the cost of all the ethics investigations and the like — the way that that weighed on her with respect to her inability to just move forward Alaska’s agenda on behalf of Alaskans in the current context of the environment. So that’s what I saw.”

Mr. Parnell, …

Paul Krugman: We Need Another Stimulus Round

Economist Paul Kruman says we need to fill a big hole in the stimulus, and so it’s time for a second round.

The problem, in other words, is not that the stimulus is working more slowly than expected; it was never expected to do very much this soon. The problem, instead, is that the hole the stimulus needs to fill is much bigger than predicted. That — coupled with the fact that yes, stimulus takes time to work — is the reason for a second round, ASAP.

Can this be sold to America?…
