GOP Congresswoman Balks At Honoring Hawaii On Statehood Anniversary
Democrats will be putting birthers in a jam with a resolution commemorating the 50th anniversary of Hawaii becoming a state. Hawaii Congressman Neil Abercrombie’s resolution notes that his state is also President Obama’s birthplace.
That confronts House GOPers with a choice: They can vote for the measure, and endorse the idea that Obama was born in Hawaii, which could earn the wrath of birthers. Or they can vote against commemorating the 50th state’s joining of our blessed Union. Or GOPers can skip the vote, but that could look nutty.
“Far be it from us to try to stir things …

NFL Commissioner Rogers Goodall says Michael Vick can play in the NFL.
Vick can immediately participate in preseason practices, workouts and meetings and can play in the final two preseason games – if he can find a team that will sign him. A number of teams have already said they would not.
Goodell suspended Vick indefinitely in August 2007 after the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback admitted bankrolling the “Bad Newz Kennels” dogfighting operation. Goodell said then that Vick must show remorse and signs that he has changed before he would consider reinstating him.
Once the season begins, …

Mike Stark put together this video of him chasing down Republican Members of Congress who refuse to say if they believe Obama was born in the US. Finally, Trent Franks of Arizona says he believes Obama was born in Hawaii, before going on to say he’s turning us into a socialist nation and undermining the Constitution.
There are great scenes with Congressmen Tom Price of Georgia and Walt Minnick of Idaho (a Republican-voting Democrat).

Mark Morford (right) in the SF Gate comments on SC Governor Mark Sanford’s belief that God will make him a more effective leader.
You know what God loves? Meddling. Meddling and poking and adjusting and maybe, just maybe, forgiving. Sometimes.
OK wait. What God really loves is meddling and poking and maybe forgiving, and also psychoanalyzing and scrutinizing and prying, gossiping and complaining and moderating, sighing and punishing and condemning, all while He shakes His big, shaggy head in your general direction at your various petty sins and misbehaviors every single day regarding pretty much every single thought you …

Republican Congressman Thaddeus McCotter wants to introduce a bill demanding that President Obama apologize to the Cambridge police, Sam Stein at Huffington reports.
The Michigan Republican announced on Friday that he would introduce the resolution unless Obama apologized to Cambridge Police Sgt. James Crowley for criticizing Crowley’s handling of Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr.’s arrest last week.
Why worry about Michigan’s declining jobs market when you can play a little politics? Even though, Obama said he “could have calibrated those words differently” and acknowledged that he “helped to contribute to ratcheting up” the situation, that’s not enough for those …

In her bizarre farewell speech as governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin fed red meat to the right-wing, invoking patriotism and the military in her first sentence. It was unclear to whom she was referring when she talked about those who are “tearing down our nation”, “American apologetics” and unmentioned forces “suggesting that our best days were yesterdays.” How can that be, she pleaded, when there are volunteers willing to fight for our freedoms.
Next it was on to criticizing the press, lecturing them that soldiers “are willing to die for you,” so “quit making things up!” And the new governor, …

The Colorado Gazette has a devastating story on Iraq war veterans who committed heinous acts in Iraq and came back to do the same at home. Anthony Marquez’s (r) mom, for example, told his sergeant at Fort Carson that her son was “a walking time bomb.”
It was February 2006, and the 21-year-old soldier had not been the same since being wounded and coming home from Iraq eight months before. He had violent outbursts and thrashing nightmares. He was devouring pain pills and drinking too much. He always packed a gun.
The sergeant taunted Marquez, telling him, “Your mommy …

It’s the end of Sarah Palin’s reign as Alaska governor this weekend. Addressing a friendly crowd, and using the occasion to take a shot at the media, Palin remarked:
“Interrupting the applause, Palin said: “I wish that some in the media would keep things like that in perspective, what is really important in our country. And what is important is our freedoms, America’s security, our liberty.”
Later, citing military families that have lost loved ones, she again drew loud applause by saying: “Let us continue to love our country, be proud of our country, never apologize for …
