Senator Jeff Sesssion Seemingly Makes A Date To Do Some Crack Cocaine
Speaking shorthand, Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions told Wade Henderson, president of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, “We’re going to do that crack cocaine thing you and I talked about before. We got to.”
Of course, Sessions, the (judiciary) panel’s top Republican, was referring to the longstanding effort to equalize sentencing rules that impose harsher penalties for offenses involving crack cocaine than those involving powder forms of cocaine.

Just as Mark Sanford rejected stimulus money because he’s so fiscally responsible, Texas Governor Rick Perry tried to sure up his conservative street cred by turning stimulus money down. Now he’s approaching DC with a tin cup.
Now that the state is dire straits, however, Perry is asking the federal government for a loan to cover the very expenses the rejected stimulus money would have paid for.
Democratic legislators know why rejecting the money in the first place only to later ask for a loan is bad for the state.
“That $555 million would that would have …

Republican senators won’t block the vote that will likely make her the next member of the Supreme Court. She appears to have earned the respect of some of the most conservative members of the Senate.

South Carolina’s Governor, lover of a wise Latina woman, wasn’t so fiscally conservative when it came to flying around the world, including trips to see his mistress. The so-called frugal governor chose first or business-class seats while his staff languished in the back of the planes.
Sanford, who once criticized other state officials for costly travel, charged the state more than $37,600 for one first-class and four business-class flights overseas since November 2005, expense records show…
The Republican governor, who balked at taking federal stimulus money after arguing it was an unwise use of taxpayer funds, charged the state …

Dr. Frank Luntz has the ear of Republicans fighting Democrats on health care, and is one of the best providers of talking points to that party. The author of Words That Work has advised the GOP on what they need to say and Republican politicians are dutifully complying.
Luntz urges them to use words and phrases such as “rationing,” “doctor-patient,” “takeover,” and “bureaucrat.” The Sunlight Foundation has a graph of how use of these words suddenly began to explode.
Think Progress put together a compendium of talking pols following orders.

Gail Collins does a marvelous job of summing up “3 Days of the Sotomayor” in the NY Times.
SENATOR JEFF SESSIONS: Thank you, Chairman. Judge Sotomayor, let’s talk about empathy. I find it shocking that President Obama said that judges should have empathy. I hate empathy. My Republican colleagues hate empathy. In fact, I am proud to say that we’ve reached an all-time low in the “understands the problems of ordinary people” category.
SENATOR ORRIN HATCH: Mr. Chairman, thank you for the opportunity to point out that we once had a Hispanic nominee for …

During the sixth take of the filming of a 1984 Pepsi commercial, Michael Jackson’s hair caught fire when the pyrotechnics went terribly wrong. He continued to dance for five seconds, unaware of what was happening.
The accident started the late King of Pop’s dependency on the painkillers that were found swamping his system when he died three weeks ago.
He had to have surgery on his scalp following the accident and has admitted he turned to painkillers to fight the pain.
Sources close to Jackson have claimed he was never the same after the 1984 accident.
