Birthers Think They Found Obama’s Kenyan Birth Certificate

Orly Taitz, the attorney/dentist who spends most her time filing lawsuits hoping to show that Obama isn’t eligible to be president, has released what she claims is a certification of Obama’s birth from Kenya. The document is alleged to be a certified copy of the original certificate, issued on February 17, 1964 by “Coast Province, Republic of Kenya.”
The problem with this is that despite claims to the contrary, Kenya did not become a Republic until Midnight, December 12, 1964. Furthermore, this is not an original birth certificate. Taitz and her fellow birthers keep demanding an original birth certificate, …

Often, when we hear the term “pro-American,” the automatic response is that it must mean to be conservative or right-wing. Remember when Sarah Palin said she loved campaigning in “these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard working very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great nation”?
Deepak Chopra addresses the concept of being “pro-America” in at Beliefnet.
…if being pro-American isn’t part of right-wing ideology for you, what does that leave? A new kind of Americanism is being shaped right now. President Obama exemplifies one aspect, the …

“Angry, sign-carrying mobs” and “disruptive behavior” are what’s meeting public officials as they travel about during recess and has led Politico to refer to a phenomenon they’re calling “Town Halls Gone Wild.”
Congressman Tim Bishop of Long Island has suspended such gatherings on the heels of a June 22 meeting in Setauket.
“There is no point in meeting with my constituents and [to] listen to them and have them listen to you if what is basically an unruly mob prevents you from having an intelligent conversation.”
In Bishop’s case, his decision came on the heels of a …

Let’s put some of the myths about the health care plan into perspective. Media Matters checked the facts.
Myth: Health care reform will provide health insurance to illegal immigrants.
Fact: No federal benefits go to those who are not legally in the United States.
House Bill: “No Federal Payment for Undocumented Aliens.” According to America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009, Page 143, Line 3, Section 246: “No Federal Payment for Undocumented Aliens. Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.” …

A rant four months ago where El Rushbo declared he was through with New York, and would lead the way out because of high taxes, has not resulted in that promise being kept, reports Jeff Bercovici of AOL’s DailyFinance.com.
When I attempted to contact Limbaugh to ask him about his relocation plans, I was directed to ["chief of staff" Kit] Carson, who told me he’d forwarded my remarks to his boss, to no avail. “All I can tell you is, I put the question into him, and I got nothing back,” Carson said.

Black workers at a Philadelpia waste transfer plant say they were relegated to a bathroom down five flights of stairs while white workers got to use a cleaner facility one floor above the supervisor’s office, one with a lock on it to preserve it for white workers.
“If you tried to use the bathroom, you might get suspended,” said Leslie Young, a former worker at the facility. Young, along with Gibson Trowery, who still works at the station, filed a complaint with the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission in October 2007.
Young said he recalled that a lock was placed …

Michael Scott Speicher’s remains were discovered 18 years after he was shot down during the opening hours of the 1991 Persian Gulf war. The pilot was the only American missing in action from that conflict. There were unsubstantiated rumors over the years that Captain Speicher had been taken into captivity.
An official statement released early Sunday said that Marines in western Iraq had received information from local citizens last month about the crash of an American jet and the burial of the pilot.
“One of these Iraqi citizens stated that they were present when Captain Speicher was found dead …

The Washington Post has pulled the video of Dana Milbank and Chris Cilizza theorizing on beer choices.
In the clip, Milbank and Chris Cilizza crack wise about their beer choices, congratulating Gates for having the sensitivity not to order a “Big Black Stout,” and extend the premise to pair other politicians with quirkily-named lagers. In keeping with the juvenile tone, Cilizza spends the entire clip sitting in front of a sixpack of Hoegaarden. Then, Milbank drops this line: “And we won’t tell you who’s getting a bottle of ‘Mad Bitch,’” followed by a picture of Hillary Clinton.
The paper …

This past week marked the 44th anniversary of Medicare. A walk down memory lane (via Think Progress) reminds us that the same arguments used now against getting more people coverage were used then.
Ronald Reagan: “[I]f you don’t [stop Medicare] and I don’t do it, one of these days you and I are going to spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it once was like in America when men were free.” [1961]
George H.W. Bush: Described Medicare in 1964 as “socialized medicine.” [1964]
Barry Goldwater: “Having given our pensioners their …
