  1. Hey Joel! Thanks for responding to our request for Mad As Hell Docs!

He’d better be a good guest, or else I’m blamin’ you!

    Great guest suggestion, Mary!

I’ve done my little part to get the word out:

    http://americapress.wordpress.com/2009/09/27/mad-as-hell-about-health-care/

Some day we will have Universal Health Care.

    I can see the future.

    [insert creepy music here]

  2. YEAH!!! We need to hear more from people like Doc Hochfeld!!! He’s GOOD!!!

  3. Dr. Paul Hochfeld-

We are wasting 20% of our dollars [on health care costs].

I’m mad as hell about the political process.

They wouldn’t trade what they got [single-payer] for what we got, any day.

We need to start being truthful. Obama should just come out and tell people we have a broken political system.

This was a really great guest.

If he talked about the need for incrementalism in any sound reform effort I would have agreed 100% with all his statements.

The “egg” of health care cracked a long time ago. People just tell you that it’s not. Humpty Dumpty…

  4. Who’s the “Mad as hell doctors”? I have heard that phrase only one other time.

My doctor sure doesn’t want a single payer system or any government run healthcare for that matter.

“My doctor sure doesn’t want a single payer system or any government run healthcare for that matter.”

It sounds like your doctor either:

    a) is telling you what you want to hear..
    b) is more interested in the size of his paycheck than being a part of a cost-effective system
    c) is just such a staunch anti-government proponent that he isn’t even interested in the arguments for fiscal prudence or access.

Do you realize that just for the privilege of allowing a private entity to pay your doctor instead of the government, around 20-30 cents of every dollar spent on healthcare goes to them versus around 2-3 cents in a government system like Medicare.

For that privilege, you get no difference in quality of healthcare, no difference in choice of doctors/providers but a big difference in the chances of having your claims denied or being forced to argue through bureaucratic obstacle courses in order to get your valid claim paid for.

All that aside, even most Republicans agree that a key issue we face right now is spiralling costs. The only way you have any chance of combatting that is to get the government involved, as unpalatable as that is for Republicans.

Tort reform – won’t work as barely affects costs (around 1% from lawsuits and ‘maybe’ the same from ‘defensive medicine’)

Interstate Competition – won’t work as existing ‘competition’ already doesn’t drive down costs. Mostly this would cause consolidation and cost-savings for Insurance companies but has little chance of being passed onto the consumer.

My doctor is none of the above. He is a patriot. He loves this country and he flat out refuses to give up any freedoms to our governments ever increasing control over our lives. Something you seem willing to do Lee.

Aaaand the Doctor carries the Daddido stamp of patriotism!!!Come along ladies and gentlemen, and bid up for this Daddido-certified patriot!!!

    Daddio Reply:

I refer to your comments below Karthiks. 9:25 am.

And more disingeruous nonsense from you.

You seem rather rude lately. We used to have good decent debates without the rudeness. What happened to you?

    Lee Reply:

    Daddio,

    He fits description c) then..

I do want to give up the freedom to get ripped off by insurance companies and the freedom to have an inefficient, inequitable health system.

By moving to a single-payer, I could accomplish just that and not have to give up any other desirable freedom I currently have.

Btw, I too, love my country and I have to admit it’s irritating the way Conservatives think they are the only ones entitled to that description.

LOL @ My doctor is a patriot. I mean who talks like that? Dude you wouldn’t be near as funny if you weren’t serious.

“And more disingenuous nonsense from you.

I can assure you I wasnt more or less rude to you than I normally am, of late.

If you find being called for stating nonsense as rude(or,for that matter, for making a dumb argument), then perhaps you shouldnt be debating.
Its quite different if I make those assertions without backing them up; That would make me Jared.
When I called you dumb, I backed it up(the snipping of my comment from you was quite dumb).
Likewise, with the above “nonsense” stuff.

    karthiks030977 Reply:

“LOL @ My doctor is a patriot. I mean who talks like that?”
Daddido does, on evidence of this thread.
However, I am with you on the LOL.
Dont give Willy too much credit, this thingy of giving people the “stamp” of patriotism isnt his idea, OReilly and Hannity do it every night, to deflect attention from the actual issues.

    craig7120 Reply:

I dont know karth it never occurred to me to ask if my doc was a patriot or not.

I do admire the stamp of approval from the University on that framed ’sheepskin’ thats for you willy. lol

    karthiks030977 Reply:

“I dont know karth it never occurred to me to ask if my doc was a patriot or not.”
That should make you a candidate for OReilly’s pinhead.
Now, most of his pinhead stamped people happen to be decent people.
What else do you expect of a stamp arising from a murderer…

    craig7120 Reply:

‘That should make you a candidate for OReilly’s pinhead.’

woooohoooo a candidate, wonder what will be the prize?

‘Now, most of his pinhead stamped people happen to be decent people.’

cmon the pinhead prize has to be something other than a crown of decency.

Who’s the “mad as hell doctors”??? Have you been living under a rock for the last couple of months?

As for doctor sure doesn’t want a single payer system? Sounds to me like he’s more interested in your money than in your well being. Rest assured that if you go broke, he’ll be more than happy to show you the door.

    TDro319 Reply:

“I do admire the stamp of approval from the University”

Was that from the University of I Don’t Know? I’m not sure where the UIDK is located, but you may want to as Glen Beck. He’s mentioned it a couple of times on his show.

My doctor is none of the above. He is a patriot. He loves this country and he flat out refuses to give up any freedoms to our governments ever increasing control over our lives.

Then he was sternly against the Patriot Act and is a supporter of The ACLU as well.

  5. “Disbelief” in “wingnuttery in Washington”??!!!

That is all Washington has anymore. 537 wingnuts of all flavors.

    karthiks030977 Reply:

“That is all Washington has anymore. 537 wingnuts of all flavors.”
Again, more disingenuous nonsense from you, to evade holding accountable the people YOU support.God alone knows why you do that.

    Daddio Reply:

Can you name me 10 HONEST politicians in Washington?

    karthiks030977 Reply:

Can you name me 528 of the above 537 “wingnuts”?Name me 528 who are “wingnuts” and I will concede you are right.
    I dont know all 537.
But I will not allow the dishonesty and lack of willingness of Republicans to be accountable, to tar EVERY one of them. Every one of them,Including Republicans deserve the benefit of doubt. If you think you’re God, go ahead and convict all 537 of them without evidence against every one.

    Daddio Reply:

How many do you suppose give you all the facts while campaigning? They all distort the facts. Twist the truth. Give you only a portion of the truth. And all in the name of getting votes. I can see no honesty there.

So, in that sense I can name 537 right now.

    karthiks030977 Reply:

“How many do you suppose give you all the facts while campaigning?”
Eh?They cant even know what facts are relevant to you(as an individual voter). They tell you what they know.
“They all distort the facts. Twist the truth. Give you only a portion of the truth.”
If they give you enough honest facts to give the ability to find the full truth, that’s acceptable for me; I dont need to be spoonfed. Further, if I ask them to spoonfeed me, they’ll do what the Republicans do, feed me what I want to hear.

“I can see no honesty there.”
That’s because you are looking in the wrong directions, in the wrong places, to the wrong people.

    Daddio Reply:

All politicians tell you what you want to hear. Wheere have you been? That is dishonest. Face it Karthiks, politicians are dishonest. They spoonfeed you Karthiks with promises, knowing full well they will not keep them, just to get elected. No honesty there.

    karthiks030977 Reply:

“They spoonfeed you Karthiks with promises, knowing full well they will not keep them, just to get elected”
    And that’s not true.
    Barack Obama is proof.
For that matter, even Bush is proof.
They tell you a bunch of things about their intentions, some true, some not.
You can typically make out which are true intentions and which arent.
    Like Obama on single payer.

    Daddio Reply:

You just proved what I have been saying.

“They tell you a bunch of things about their intentions, some true, some not.” Some not. That is dishonest of them.

    karthiks030977 Reply:

“Some not. That is dishonest of them.”
Well,I will concede that honesty doesnt exist; Because people find it hard to face truths. I wont hang the politician for being dishonest.
    However:
Your original assertion was “wingnuts”. Now,dishonest doesnt equal “wingnut”. Care to back up your original assertion?Switching topics is fun, but it gets boring after a while, when you shoot and scoot.

That is an old militia tactic formed during the Revolutionary War. You know, when we kick the butts of the Brits and sent them scurrying back to England.
