  1. “They don’t agree with our freedom, our way of life.
Now people are deducing that they [UN leaders] like Obama because he is trying to compromise our way of life.”

“They” don’t hate us for our freedoms. “They” hate us because we keep bombing their countries and invading their lands. And creating Talibans. And then denying we ever did any of it to them.

People believe the worst about Obama on the right because their media and their leaders have lost their minds and are behaving in a fashion that is disgraceful and dishonest. Joe Wilson; case and point.

But I feel maybe I took a peak into the modern conservative mentality here…

You just take a basic premise and you just roll with it. Facts, history, intelligence, and reason be damned! We got an opinion here! Alright! High-five!

Maybe that’s why I’m losing my nerve with the right wingers. They are so sure they are right about Obama but not one of them from Gingrinch to Palin to Hannity to Beck has even thought about it even for the tiniest fraction of a second.

    “.. the pirate Jefferson.”

This neo-con calls in, says this is a “Christian Nation”, and then calls one of the Founders a “pirate”.

It’s very telling of how badly every single one of these people saying this “Christian Nation” nonsense is reading American History. And frankly it’s an insult to patriots everywhere to hear people say these false myths about our nation’s history.

Goes back to when Gingrinch was on the show yesterday. The Founders have a few quotes that Mr. Gingrinch would call a “bigoted” statements, about how religion is not great.

More people didn’t go to church in days of the Founders.

And most importantly they held a very strong distinction (most of them) between being a Christian and being an American. A very strong distinction.

Basically I get to stand on my soap-box in an attempt to explain they are in fact two very different things, but I’m fighting about fourty to sixty years of constant programming coming in from people like Gingrinch or this caller who slandered a Founding Father in his grave.

They shake around all the facts and make it sound like Washington and that one Justice were the only people alive and the only people who ever said or did anything.

I heard some guy say we should all watch “The Spirit of Seventy-Six”.

No, you should all join me in reading it. I am on page 3…

You have to really read a book like that and it will take us all a very long time … but still the movie is teaching people nothing and Gingrinch is teaching people nothing and Hannity / O’Reilly are teaching people nothing and so on.

The rightie talkers are merely confirming their listener’s prejudices for them, Eric, nothing more.

    “the pirate Jefferson”
Ha! Jefferson fought a small war against pirates, “to the shores of Tripoli”. I’ll bet that caller was just against Thomas Jefferson because Jefferson was not a Christian.

LOL, James, sounds like it’s gonna be a fun place!

Matt Latimer asked me (actually he was more talking to Joan Walsh if nobody else got that) that I should stop calling people “un-American”.

I respectfully decline on behalf of the Liberal Left, I do speak for them you know.

The behavior on the right is exactly as we describe and we will harness our partisan slanders in any way we choose as long as words such as “socialist” and “Marxist” and “communist” are thrown around so freely on rightwing partisan slander … we reserve the right to fire back in kind.

Though I do advocate a more civil and bipartisan Body Politic, we have to be a part of the world and not just passive observers of McCarthyism.

Well, Eric, we can’t just be content with spitting at them when they’re using baseball bats on us; I know THAT’S right.

    libpatriot Reply:

Alas, “turning the other cheek” doesn’t seem to be a very workable strategy in domestic politics.

  3. “A surge in Afghanistan? Alan weighs in on the debate over increasing troop levels.”

Yeah, we’re going to have to have a big discussion on the pros and cons of that issue, for sure. Not certain I’ve got the energy level for that today, though.
