Senator Dukakis?

Could happen.

Michael Goldman, a Boston political consultant who has worked for several of the leading names, said the criteria for choosing the interim senator appears to be relatively straightforward.

“It has to be one of the grey eminences of the party whose active elective career is over,” Goldman said. “And someone who could get through a quick vetting process without embarrassing the governor.…

Study Shows 45,000 Die Each Year Because Of No Insurance

Harvard Medical School researchers say one person dies every 12 minutes in the United States because of no insurance and lack of good care.

The Harvard study, funded by a federal research grant, was published in the online edition of the American Journal of Public Health. It was released by Physicians for a National Health Program, which favors government-backed or “single-payer” health insurance.

An similar study in 1993 found those without insurance had a 25 percent greater risk of death, according to the Harvard group. The Institute of Medicine later used that data in its 2002 estimate showing about 18,000 …

ACORN No Good; Halliburton And Blackwater Do Fine

halliburton

Congress rarely acts this swiftly to anything, but they had no problem quickly denying funds to ACORN in the wake of conservative hit videos. No word from conservatives on how many ACORN offices were approached that didn’t buy the prostitute/pimp act.

In a statement over the weekend, Bertha Lewis, the chief organizer for Acorn, said the bogus prostitute and pimp had spent months visiting numerous Acorn offices, including those in San Diego, Los Angeles, Miami and Philadelphia, before getting the responses they were looking for.

If only the left wing had been as successful in stopping funds form going …

Police said an investigation revealed that the female victim, identified as Tasha Hill, was entering the Cracker Barrel with her 7-year-old daughter as West was leaving the restaurant. As West was leaving, the exit door came close to striking the 7-year-old daughter of the victim, police said. Hill, by all witness accounts, politely asked West to be careful, officials said.

Insurance Company Ordered To Pay $10 Mil. For Revoking Policy Of HIV-Positive Teen

SouthCarolinaSupremeCourt-Jun08-002a

South Carolina, not the most progressive state, in its Supreme Court decision, called Fotis Insurance Company’s actions “reprehensible.”  Fotis is now known as “Assurant.”

The trial jury had awarded the former college student, Jerome Mitchell, $15 million in punitive damages; the Supreme Court reduced that amount by $5 million.

Mitchell learned that he had HIV when, while heading to college, he donated blood. Fortis then rescinded his coverage, citing what turned out to be an erroneous note from a nurse in his medical records that indicated that he might have been diagnosed prior to his obtaining …

David Vitter The Wrong Person To Show Outrage At ACORN Prostitution Scandal

vitter

DC Madam client and Louisiana Senator David Vitter is busy putting out press releases to urge a cessation of funding to ACORN.

After months of beating the drum and continued news reports of criminal investigations, the president and his administration are finally starting to distance themselves from ACORN. The Census dropping ACORN as a partner is a good, common sense move. Now we must go one step further and support my simple and direct amendment, which declares that no federal funds should go ACORN.

Think Progress notes the hypocrisy of someone who not only missed the vote when …

Why The White House Is Revamping Missile Defense

storybc8a805679d9db75cde30b1925264e52

A White House fact sheet offers two main reasons for changing missile defense policy in Eastern Europe. Before conservatives beat up on Obama, it’s important to note that Defense Secretary Robert Gates was the policy maker on the same issue in the Bush administration.

· New Threat Assessment: The intelligence community now assesses that the threat from Iran’s short- and medium-range ballistic missiles is developing more rapidly than previously projected, while the threat of potential Iranian intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capabilities has been slower to develop than previously estimated. In the near-term, the greatest missile threats from Iran will be …

RIP Mary Travers 1936-2009

Picture-62

Mary Travers was part of the famed “Peter Paul and Mary”.

The band’s publicist, Heather Lylis, says Travers died at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut on Wednesday. She was 72 and had battled leukemia for several years.

Travers joined forces with Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey in the early 1960s.

The trio mingled their music with liberal politics, both onstage and off. Their version of “If I Had a Hammer” became an anthem for racial equality. Other hits included “Lemon Tree,” “Leaving on a Jet Plane” and “Puff (The Magic Dragon.)”

They were early champions of Bob …
