Sign Outside GA Restaurant: “Obama’s plan for health-care: N*&%*r rig it.”

October 10th, 2009, 2:50 PM EDT

Larisa has the story about Patrick Lanzo and his Georgia Oyster Bar.  Nice atmosphere at that joint.

Behind the pool tables stands a mannequin in a Klu Klux Klan costume, but it’s what’s outside of the Patrick Lanzo’s restaurant that has some people angry.

Lanzo put up a sign that reads “Obama’s plan for health-care: N*&%*r rig it.”

CBS Atlanta’s Michelle Marsh asked Lanzo why he put up the sign.

“I’ve been putting up signs for 22 years and I’ve put up all kinds of political signs,” said Lanzo.

“Why did you use the N word?” Marsh asked.

“Well, I’ve used it most of my life. There are different ways to put your opinion up, but that’s just the words I choose,” Lanzo answered.

Despite the sign, Lanzo said he’s not a racist.

He also appears to not be the owner of a dictionary.

  1. How many millions of times do we have to see this same old story played and replayed until the south owns up, not to its racist heritage, but to its racist present day?

And this time it’s all about a restaurant.

So obviously people for miles around have no problem with this, or the guy wouldn’t be in business.

Probably the local meetings are held there.

Obviously? How do you know, pray tell? Maybe many people around the restaurant aren’t the type to instantly protest or call people out for using inappropriate language.

  2. It is a Long way they, and we are so far away to see the time where everybody can live for the day that everybody knows and cares for everyone, and we have a long ways to go to get their. The question is how much time do we have, or a much time has he given us, before he says that’s enough.

  3. I don’t believe the South has a problem with racism any more than another part of the nation where poverty is spread across groups of whites and African-American’s living in close proximity to each other.

The key here is the aforementioned poverty and education. Until more folks both whites and African-Americans become wealthy and educated enough to stop being bitter and looking for excuses, things won’t change.

  4. It brings to mind the old Dylan song:

( You can leave out the word “south”.)

A South politician preaches to the poor white man,
“You got more than the blacks, don’t complain.
You’re better than them, you been born with white skin,” they explain.
    And the Negro’s name
    Is used it is plain
    For the politician’s gain
    As he rises to fame
    And the poor white remains
On the caboose of the train
But it ain’t him to blame
He’s only a pawn in their game.

  5. Come on now , that’s funny !! Don’t git too kritical of these guys !! I’m Obama 100% but this is a whole lot of sumthamng about nothin’…..remember that it’s a minority of kracker’s that are speaking out now , give us a little progress and bring back some jobs from oversea’s , put American’s back to work wit this green revolution . Above all , let’s green light these nucular power plants asap !! New tech can use all of the rod ! Wit these plants full plug-in cars are sure to come. Stop burning coal and switch now ! There are millions of jobs if these no-nuke will come to their sences and get America on the fast tract to progress ! Then maybe we can show these nay-sayer’s that President Obama is working for them , everyone , and really , could give a squat about these ’sign’s’….

  6. It’d be easy to pass this over because “it’s only Georgia” but it may be more widespread.

I was behind a car at a stoplight one evening a couple of days ago. The male driver might have been 20 and his passenger 16. The car had a “F’ Obama” bumper sticker.

Of course, I moved the truck a bit left and up real close so my headlight shined right into the driver’s rearview mirror/face so I’m now not entirely blameless either. :)

  7. Georgie Oyster Club?! Reminds me of the Blue Oyster Club in those Police Academy movies where Proctor and Capt Harris would inadvertently crash into. LOL!

woops Georgia not Georgie…..laughing too hard to type

  8. it sounds like this restaurant caters to a select group of individuals…and the owner is a nimrod, however implicating the entire community is somewhat in haste…last I heard we have a free country with freedom of speech, and though I disagree with what is on the sign, I’ll defend his right to say whatever he wants.

  9. Alan: “He [Lanzo]also appears to not be the owner of a dictionary.”

Yeah, apparently not. Or he hasn’t used it much.
