  1. –> Alan confronts New York Muslim activist Yousef al-Khattab

    I hope it’s via phone…

Because his website involves “exhorting Muslims to “throw liquid drain cleaner in [Jews'] faces.”"

    flap Reply:

    And he’s a convert!

“An American-born Jew formerly known as Joseph Cohen who converted to Islam”

    Wow.

    Sluice Reply:

Alan has talked to this idiot before. I’m surprised he’s never asked him what discrimination he faced in his lifetime at the hands of the heartless profit system to make him feel misinformed about unity with another group. Because no one ever wants to kill anyone from reading the Qu’ran, thats just reichwing Rethuglikkkan hate speech.

    EricG Reply:

That statement is like saying no one ever wants to kill someone after reading The Bible.

Someone does. They are sick in the damn head but with a local hate-preacher leading you down the drain to Hell you can get there.

I’m not well versed on the Qu’ran but I’d bet it’s not that different.

You pick out the worst of it and make that your beliefs.

While everyone else is pulling wisdom and symbolic meanings out of the words, you sit there and pull out reasons to kill, hate and practice violence.

Same thing we see from the right wing religious zealots in the US.

  2. Yousef is a jerk.

And that’s all you need to know.

  3. Yes, military recruitment is up because civilian employment opportunities have dried up.

    http://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2009/10/military_recruiting_retention_101309w/

The active and reserve military branches all met or exceeded both their numeric and quality recruiting goals during fiscal 2009 for the first time in the 36-year history of the all-volunteer force, the Pentagon’s top military personnel policy official said Tuesday.

In addition, retention was deemed “successful” in all the services, the Pentagon said in a press release. No retention figures were provided.

A weak economy and increased spending on recruiting were the primary reasons for the recruiting successes, said Bill Carr, under secretary of defense for military personnel policy, who met with Pentagon reporters along with each service’s top recruiting officials.

“The investment per accession we were able to deliver this year — because we hadn’t built in the unemployment [rate], as it turned out … left us with more dollars per recruit than proved to be minimally necessary, given the level of unemployment,” Carr said.

It’s not just the economy that’s driving recruitment. I can imagine that many people who were interested in a military career have been waiting until some sanity returns to the White house.

The new Commander-in-Chief isn’t likely to start reckless, unnecessary wars for dubious reasons, justified with deception and lies. He’s not likely to use the troops as cannon fodder for corporate profits, like his predecessor did.

The prospect of being cynically manipulated by chickenhawks is never an attractive option. Now that we have a foreign policy that is rooted in reality, it’s no wonder that more people are willing to consider joining the military.

He’ll just continue them, which should be even worse since he was supposedly against them to begin with.

  4. 77 WABC- Growing up in Fort Lee, NJ, Christian Home for Children, one of the many things I enjoyed doing, listening on my transistor radio. Dreaming of another life, music always made you feel good. My first introduction and love affair with Sir Elton John (Country Comfort). To Cousin Brucie, thanks for the many memories, great music, and giving us kids a place to escape. Thank you.

  5. • Turnover: Alan weighs in on the reported removal of Rush Limbaugh from the group seeking to buy the St. Louis Rams.

Have I explained the “Limbaugh Game” before?

It’s where you say anything and do anything to stay in the news.

Trying to buy a NFL team fully qualifies.

I doubt he even cared if he got it or not.

As long as the racist has someone talking about him then he is happy.

On the topic: screw Limbaugh. I don’t care about that fat drug addict. You all go on talking about him and blogging about him, I’m going to wait until he gets arrested for pocession or dies from overdose.

Antisemitism is on the risein the US.

A friend of mine who is Jewish was talking about fearing going out in public recently because of all the bigotry against Jews he is hearing lately on the streets.

I don’t know about that but there is a new exciting antisemitic video series on YouTube called “The Arrivals” and we can all find things like “Jew Mafia” and “Jew bankers” and “dirty Jews” all over the right wing fringe media if we look.

I’m not Jewish, but this stuff makes me sick all the same. And I’m a spirtual student of a Jew named “Yesiah” who we all like to call “Jesus”.

And these right wingers who claim to love Israel so never seem to care enough to call out a bigot for being a disgusting bigot against Jews. However, they love calling everyone anti-religous or anti-Christian out as a bigot in an instant.

Double-standards makes up most of what the right wing is these days and this is no exception.

    • Legendary DJ “Cousin Brucie” Morrow, author of the new book Rock & Roll: …And the Beat Goes On, discusses his journey through Rock history.

Wow … that’s well put calling him “legendary”. I’ve read more than one book mentioning Morrow.

    Good job booking him!

  6. Getting Paid to Listen to & Call in to Radio Shows?

    It’s real.

But it only happens around campaign seasons.

I know the right people to work as someone who just listens to the right wing noise-box all day and then make a summary report of what was said specifically in regard to the candidate or party.

    It’s a temporary job.

This idea that people get paid to do that under normal circumstances is false, however.

Unless of course you are oppositional researching another news agency while working for a news-outlet yourself.

Non-media people don’t normally get paid just to consume media. That’s the point.

But you can get paid to just listen to talk shows and watch TV-punditry, just only in certain short time frames. I’ve never done it myself. Sounds like something like what I already do on the blogs, except more specific and less general in nature.

We do need to do a national intervention on the bigots.

Tell me when to show up, we’ll talk about getting this going. It’s getting really bad.

The nationally-elected President of The United States is named Barack Hussein Obama, and he is a African-American.

We sometimes say “black” most likely because explaining that I am a Caucasian-American instead of just saying I am “white” is shorter and more simple.

Certain people focus upon any amount of “white blood” or “black blood” in their or another’s background, and personally I find it less important than how a person is treated and how they are viewed by society.

If a person wants to be identified as “biracial” then that is fine and they should be addressed in this way, I believe. But Barack Obama has stated many times and even given a speech regarding these matters, clearly calling himself a “black man”.

So a respectful person would address Obama as such, or the longer version of “African-American”.

The same for calling him simply “Obama” instead of using his full name and/or title.

I have never heard him ever say such a thing bothered him and if he did we should address him in a more formal manner.

If people on the right wing truly want to become all just “Americans” then that would be everyone on the continent, minus the borders. Canadian-Americans and Mexican-Americans would also just be “Americans” as well.

If they truly desire this global race-blind community, then we should drop the borders and just accept our neighbors of the north and the south as part of our complete community.

This is the site that Yousef al-Khattab needs to be spending his time at:

“History has shown that wherever anti-Semitism has gone unchecked, the persecution of others has been present or not far behind. Defeating anti-Semitism must be a cause of great importance not only for Jews, but for all people who value humanity and justice….”
