Iran Hints At Accepting UN Deal

October 26th, 2009, 10:35 AM EDT

Iran says it can endorse a UN deal that would have it sending what could be nuclear fuel to Russia for enrichment and then to France to be converted to fuel plates.  This is the result of talks between Iran and six world powers in Geneva on October 1.

UN inspectors have been examining what had been a secret facility (pictured) to make sure that fuel was being made for electricity and not for nuclear arms. Will we be able to say diplomacy works?

  1. The link provided for the topic here goes to the wrong article. Instead of an article about Iran’s nuclear power program, it goes to a commentary about Brenda and Robert Vale’s “Time To Eat The Dog” book.

  2. “Will we be able to say diplomacy works?”
    Sure hope so!

Me too! Wouldn’t the cons hate that? I’m convinced many of them would like nothing better than to have an excuse to bomb Iran.

  3. Diplomacy is the art of telling someone to go to hell, in such a way, as to make them look forward to the trip.

Sounds like that’s a skill that I need to work on more, then, Jaz.

It’s especially hard, when one hangs with Shirazy, if you know what I mean:)

Yes indeed, I do, Jazmine, for when one “hangs with Shirazy”–**hic!**–one may find out that honesty is NOT always the best policy. (Darn those Aussies and their seductive wines!)

  4. diplomacy or bullying.

there’s no real reason for Iran to go along with this plan except they fear reprisal.

I’m glad they aren’t going to be refining their own fuel, and potentially be able to turn it into weapons grade material, but to say that it’s a diplomacy is kind of inaccurate.

but then again all diplomacy has an element of bullying to it.

  5. Diplomacy and bullying are hardly the same tacktable words, Guido! I may have put up a quote, thinking that most people would understand the difference. Guess not!

    GuidoVanHorn Reply:

    diplomacy is bullying with tact.

  6. Some of the largest oil reserves in the World but Iran seek alternative Energy Source…. I THINK NOT! The only country dumb enough to follow that game plan is United States. Does anyone really think Iran just wants to use enriched Uranium for peaceful purposes? it is infact possible to use non-enriched uranium to run a powerplant but I guess that just wasn’t an option.

    GuidoVanHorn Reply:

all nuclear power plants run on enriched uranium (or plutonium)

it’s more profitable to sell their oil to foreigners than to use it for power, I think it’s smart that they would want to diversify their energy mix.

I don’t trust them enough to think that they aren’t trying to build weapons…but I can understand their position of diversification of their energy supply.
