Michael Steele’s blog has dropped the title “What Up?” in favor of “Change the Game,” as Laffy notes. I prefer “What Up?” “Change” is a Democratic word, fully owned and operated. If they’re going to use “change,” Democrats should appropriate “freedom.” I know they can’t come up with legislation, but can’t they at least come up with their own blog titles?…

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says it would be inappropriate for the owner of an NFL team to make the kind of comments Rush Limbaugh has made.
“I’ve said many times before we’re all held to a high standard here, and I think divisive comments are not what the NFL is all about,” Goodell said at an NFL owners’ meeting. “I would not want to see those comments coming from people who are in a responsible position in the NFL, absolutely not.”

Workers at the Lakeville Country Club in Massachusetts discovered vandalism on the 18th hole of their golf course.
Carved into the green on the 18th hole was a swastika look-a-like next to President Barack Obama’s name.
The vandals snuck in at night and carved their message of hate, according to the owner of the country club.
“We don’t know if they did it with some type of cleated shoe, or they had some type of tool and this time of year to have that happen, it’s a problem it’s much harder to fix now,” said Lou Mincone, the …

Olympia Snowe made this statement upon being the only Republican on the Senate Finance Committee to vote for health care reform, enabling it to pass committee. But Snow is still hedging her bets.
“When history calls, history calls,” Snowe said at the committee hearing, but she reiterated her opposition to a government-run insurance option and cautioned that she does not want the bill to get any more expensive as the process moves forward.
“My vote today is my vote today. It doesn’t forecast what my vote will be tomorrow,” Snowe said.
Senator Ron Wyden of …

By backing Democratic heath care reform, Maine Senator Olympia Snowe is putting at risk a top spot on the Commerce Committee.
“A vote for healthcare would be something that would weigh on our minds when it came time to vote,” said a Republican on Commerce, who said Snowe would otherwise be assured of the ranking member post if not for the healthcare debate.
Every other GOP member of Finance is expected to vote against the healthcare bill.

President Obama has approved, and the Pentagon is deploying, 13,000 troops to Afghanistan, beyond the 21,000 approved in March.
The additional troops are primarily support forces, including engineers, medical personnel, intelligence experts and military police. Their deployment has received little mention by officials at the Pentagon and the White House, who have spoken more publicly about the combat troops who have been sent to Afghanistan.
The deployment of the support troops to Afghanistan brings the total increase approved by Obama to 34,000. The buildup has raised the number of U.S. troops deployed to the war zones of Iraq …

Libby at The Impolitic had the displeasure of catching this ad put out by Republican North Carolina State Senator Andrew Brock and Raleigh businessman Will Head, offered up by a group called Wake Up America, which aims to be a right-wing MoveOn.org. The group is also supporting South Carolina Congressman Joe “You Lie” Wilson.

Minnesota Congressman Michele Bachmann is going to to have a fight on her hands when she runs for re-election. A Democratic primary is shaping up with two well-funded opponents.
The party establishment favorite, state Sen. Tarryl Clark, announced Monday that she has raised in impressive $308,000 since declaring her candidacy July 28. The campaign will report just under $270,000 in the bank at the end of September.
Physician Maureen Reed, Clark’s rival for the Democratic nomination, announced a $130,000 fundraising quarter. After taking in more than $200,000 in the second quarter, the former Independent Party lieutenant governor candidate has …
