So They’re Tying Obama To Polanski Now?

A blaring headline on Politico shouts “Roman Polanski Backers Gave 34K To Obama, DNC.”

…among the signatories of a movie-industry petition calling for “the immediate release of Roman Polanski,” were a half-dozen Obama supporters who gave $15,500 to his presidential campaign…

What is one supposed to infer from this? It sounds more like a GOP press release than an actual news story. And the DNC isn’t too happy about it, either.  “This story is just lowbrow, and it’s amateur hour,” DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse told Greg Sargent of Plumline. “It’s one of the silliest stories that I’ve ever …

Did Tom Coburn Pull The Plug On Grandma’s Social Security?

tom-coburn-cropped-proto-custom_2

Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma stood in the way of a bill that would have stopped seniors from getting reductions in Social Security payments next year.

Coburn stood in the way of unanimous consent to a House bill setting 2010 Medicare premiums at 2009 levels. As the National Journal reports (sub. req.), Coburn’s move means “seniors are facing uncertainty over Medicare costs next year” and that “would see a net reduction in their Social Security benefits.”…

NASA To Bomb Moon

226165main1_226x170_On_Way_In

In an attempt to find water, NASA is going to crater the moon a bit.

In 1999…hydrogen signatures [were] detected in permanently shadowed craters at the lunar poles by NASA’s Lunar Prospector. These readings may be an indication of lunar water and could have far-reaching implications as humans expand exploration past low-Earth orbit. The Lunar CRater Observing and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS) mission is seeking a definitive answer.

As the ejecta rises above the target crater’s rim and is exposed to sunlight, any water-ice, hydrocarbons or organics will vaporize and break down into their basic components. These components …

The father of Tripp Palin, former boyfriend of Bristol Palin, and almost-son-in-law of Sarah Palin, is going to pose for Playgirl.

To get ready for his close-up, Johnston is training three hours a day, six nights a week at an Anchorage gym with a local body builder.

A formal agreement hasn’t been reached with the online magazine, but the photo shoot is a “foregone conclusion,” said Johnston’s attorney, Rex Butler.

An embarrassment to Palin? Or to Johnston?…

Bob Dole Says Health Care Reform Should Pass

s-BOB-DOLE-IOWA-large

Opposition to reform, says Dole, is being driven by knee-jerk partisanship.

“Sometimes people fight you just to fight you,” he said, according to The Kansas City Star. “They don’t want Reagan to get it, they don’t want Obama to get it, so we’ve got to kill it…

“Health care is one of those things,” he added. “Now we’ve got to do something.”…

Is Sarah Palin A Victim Of Persecution?

XEPFy9IY5qSl

Matthew Continetti, a Weekly Standard writer who has been very kind to Sarah Palin, is coming out with The Persecution of Sarah Palin.  The pub date was moved up to capitalize on the buzz around Palin’s own book.  It is unlikely there will be a harsh word there about the temporary governor of Alaska, as the book’s press release states:

Continetti, the associate editor of The Weekly Standard, shows that because Palin was a strong and popular conservative with traditional values, Washington Democrats and their allies in the so-called “mainstream media” decided she had to be destroyed. His …

Charlie Wilson: Get Out of Afghanistan

3211453290

The former U.S. congressman from Texas, who was able to secure enough funds for the CIA to provide the mujahideen with weapons to fight the Soviets, can see us getting into a quagmire.  Charlie Wilson’s efforts became the basis of a book and movie called “Charlie Wilson’s War.”

Mr. Wilson believes that the United States’ failure to invest in Afghanistan’s recovery following the war led in large part to the ascension of the Taliban, who provided a refuge for Osama bin Ladin, who had fought with the mujahideen against the Soviets, and Al Qaeda in the years leading up …
