A “Patriot” Tweets
Wonkette found at least one reaction to Joseph Cao, the only Republican to vote for health care.
@AnhJosephCao You Bastard piece of sh** f**k! GO BACK TO Saigon, South Vietnam where you f**king BELONG G**K! #GOP #TCOT #TLOT #TEAPARTY
about 11 hours ago from TweetDeck
And guess what this guy calls liberals: “classless a**holes.” But we know he’s a patriot, because the background on his Twitter page is the American flag.

wow, that guy is as calm as anyone I’ve met.

@Rocky the Liberal Rottweiler:
RightBloggerPat identifies with the Republican party, but as an independent teabagger.
He calls Republicans like Joseph Cao “traitors” and RINOS.
Let’s see what el Rushbo, the self-appointed titular head of the GOP, says tomorrow.
I expect that Cao will be pushed under the bus, like all other Republican moderates, in that vast party “purge” which is going on right now.
The GOP, with the help of people like RightBloggerPat, is setting itself up for extinction.
It’s a shame, because one of my ancestors (Amos Tuck: Google him) was a close personal friend of Abraham Lincoln and was one of the founders of the Republican Party. My family always voted Republican for 150 years (‘cept my mother, who voted for JFK), and since 2004 I have left the GOP.
Actually no, the GOP left me.

As opposed to those Democratic moderates who voted “No”, right? Not even 24 hours after they expressed their individualism to vote against this destructive bill. Oh, and don’t forget how Joe gets throttled for taking away his support of same bill.
I guess moderation is only meant to apply to the Right?

@John Galt:
Read my comments in the thread about the moderate Democrats who voted “no”. Some of them had valid reasons. And some of them displayed courage and their principles.
But I don’t know of any liberal Democrats contemplating revenge.
Let’s just wait and see the flak about Joseph Cao from Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh tomorrow.
In fairness, I don’t expect GOP chairman Michael Steele will participate in the “purge”. He has gone on record that in some parts of the country, Republicans need to adapt to the constituency of the people who elected them.
In spite of his many flip-flops, Michael Steele is trying to hold the party together and has the strategic interests of the GOP at heart.

It has nothing to do with revenge. The democrats went out of their way to get bipartisan support that they sacrificed part of healthcare reform just to get it. This new bill, although it just “tweaks” a few things, is in no way robust.

I disagree that they went out of their way.
And I think it does have to do with revenge. And again, I am not in position to know Alan’s thoughts, he may be generating hits/business or stirring up the pot, but when you post the names of the Dems who voted against the bill with a target; that looks like revenge.
Further, look at the flak Leiberman is getting for his stance on the bill.
And the announcement by Media Matters that it would fund challengers in primaries.
All good politics to be sure–and fair. Just be honest when Repubs go to extract their “revenge”.

“I disagree that they went out of their way.”
Yes, they did. Which is why we still don’t have a robust public option or single payer healthcare.
As for the revenge thing: my mistake. I thought you were talking about the democrats (Kucinich in particular who I know thought this was a half-assed bill and would do nothing to help the middle class).

Guido VanHorn:
I use “@” because everyone else on Twitter seems to use it. Also, “RT”. I am not really used to those things and what they mean, but the ampersand “@” seems necessary to reply to someone else.
I don’t really like Twitter. Mostly it’s people saying, “I’m out to walk the dog now”, and other inane vanity things. Basically a waste of time.
I only signed up in June, to follow the Iranian protesters after the sham election, and the street battles.
Twitter was the only way the guys on the ramparts could get the word out to the world, because all international journalists were banned.
It was VERY cool to communicate with English-speaking Iranians who were risking their lives for freedom.
Sometimes I would see their tweets reporting shootings, just seconds after they happened. And some of them also tweeted me personally!
Twitter was been acknowledged by the media as an icon for the expression of freedom and courage– much like the FAX machines were during Tianamen Square.
Otherwise, I don’t pay much attention. I did NOT follow Obama on Twitter last year (many did), although I voted for him.
I prefer Facebook, because you can say more than your 140 character limit.
Thanks, Guido, for asking!

isn’t RT retweet…as in copying someone elses tweet…or is it reply tweet…I really don’t know. I tweeted for a little bit, mostly nonsensical stuff just for giggles, and I never really figured it out. I just don’t have the dedication to stick with it.

This display of horrid manners makes me wish some of my friends on the left would behave a bit more. That way it is easier and more effective when we see conservatives making spectacles of themselves at town hall meetings, teabagging parties and on the floor of Congress.
I would prefer the conservatives have a monopoly on acting a fool………

See my previous reply to you first.
Maybe you already realize this, but the Iranian protesters in June were texting on their cell phones right on the street, and taking pictures on their camera phones.
The Iranian government tried to shut down the ISPs, and many of the protesters were traced and arrested, but neighboring outside groups and countries were providing them the bandwidth to keep transmitting.
There was a large traffic in temporary phones, as guys would drop into Tehran pharmacies to buy internet-compatible phones with which to transmit.
It was TERRIBLY exciting.
It was the most exciting series of events I ever “witnessed” in my entire life, like a front row seat to history. Many of the Iranians had family in Britain and the USA, and they were able to upload video surrepticiously later in the night.
I think I was up for 36 hours watching this. I can only remember a few other times I was up all night for these world-shaking events: Boris Yeltsin’s assault by tanks on the Russian parliament bldg. around 1991; FAXes from Tianamen Square in 1989; and listening on shortwave radio to the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968.
The whole “Neda” killing, which grabbed the attention and the grief of the world, was an upload to Youtube by someone who risked his life, and who knows? may be dead now.
So Twitter, a modest and otherwise inane social networking site, became a conduit for the cause of freedom.
[sorry, Alan Colmes for the thread drift here, but I had to say some nice things about Twitter]

On the general subject of patriotism, I always liked this quote:
“To believe that patriotism will not flourish if patriotic ceremonies are voluntary and spontaneous, instead of a compulsory routine, is to make an unflattering estimate of the appeal of our institutions to free minds.” – Robert H. Jackson

Obama snubbed Germany’s invitation to the ceremony commerating the fall of the Berlin Wall. One of the biggest events to happen in the 20th century. An event that unified Germany and ended oppression of those who lived in East Germany.
Obama found time to go and pitch for the olympics and will find time to accept his ill advised Peace Prize. Obama found time to sit down and have a beer with a college professor and a police officer. Obama finds lots of time to vacation and play golf with his buddies.
BUT HE CAN’T FIND TIME TO COMMERATE A HUGE AND LASTING EVENT THAT CHANGED GERMANY!!!!!!!! An event that put a big hole in communism and he can’t find the time!!!!????
Actions speak louder than words.
And how about his giving a “shout out” to some Indian and all his smiles when he was suppose to comment about the horrible incident at Fort Hood. Where did this man come from??!!

The last time Obama went to Germany, you righties said that he was just like Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and Hitler.
The reunification of Germany is something for Germans to commemorate. Obama would be a distraction there.
“how about his giving a “shout out” to some Indian”
Wow. “Some dirty injun”. Hate native Americans much?

“Indian” is not the nomenclature that I would use, but that’s beside the point.
The point is that you said: “giving a “shout out” to some Indian”
If he had been at a B’nai Brith dinner, would you have said “some Jew”?
If it was an Italian-American event, would you have said “some wop”?
If the “shout-out” (I hate the phrase, BTW) was for an African-American leader, would you have said “some n*gger”?
Joe Medicine Crow is the last war chief of the Crow Tribe. He fought in World War II, and was awarded the Bronze Star, the Legion of Honor, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He deserves more respect than being called “some injun” from the likes of you.

He needs to be focused on the war and on our economy. Instead he is constantly out campaigning or going off to some vacation. Bush was blasted for taking vacations while the nation was at war. He was also blasted for golfing.
I guess what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. Unless a liberal does it. Right Tdro?

Yet just a little while ago you were complaining that he didn’t go to Germany to take part in a ceremony.
If he HAD gone, we can bet that you would have complained about him not focusing on the war and the economy, and hogging the spotlight, etc. etc.
Face it: you’re determined to hate Obama no matter what he does.

I recommend a newspaper subscription because you’ll read about lots of things President Obama is doing about the war and the economy.
In the wars, he:
* changed our priorities and put the emphasis on Afghanistan
* brought in a new commander who is more aggressive that the one leading the effort iin Afghanistan
* sent 21,000 combat troops followed by another 13,000 support troops to Afghanistan
* approved, in 7 or 8 months, more Predator drone attacks than in all of 2008
* pressured Pakistan to launch an offensive in the border region
That’s pretty good and just what I want him to do….
