Scott Roeder has confessed to killing Kansas abortion provider George Tiller.
The 51-year-old Kansas City man told The Associated Press in a telephone call from jail Monday that he plans to use the so-called necessity defense at his trial.
Roeder contends the killing of George Tiller in May at a Wichita church was justified to protect the lives of unborn children.
His confession comes as abortion opponents across the nation release a new “Defensive Action Statement” arguing for the same force to protect the unborn as is justified to protect born children. The 21 signers want jurors to …

Bryan Fischer, the “Director of Issues Analysis” for the American Family Association, claiming that Nidal Hasan is “a Muslim who was motivated by jihadist impulses,” and that he wrote blog entries last year that “attracted the attention of the FBI,” says Muslims should not be allowed to serve. (h/t RightWingWatch). Shouldn’t the bigger question be why the FBI didn’t take action if it believed someone was a threat? Not to Bryan Fischer and the AFA:
It it is time, I suggest, to stop the practice of allowing Muslims to serve in the U.S. military. The reason is …

Not satisfied with Charlie Crist as a Republican and certainly not liking any Democrat, far-right conservatives are launching a third party named after the beverage. Frederic O’Neal, an Orlando attorney who has represented tax protesters, is the party chairman.
O’Neal compared his party’s role to that of the Conservative Party in New York’s 23rd District. Florida, however, lacks the “fusion” rules that has allowed third parties in New York to amass influence by offering their ballot line to acceptable major-party candidates.

If only they could carry live ammo at Fort Hood (pictured), the argument goes, “Hasan would have been able to shoot perhaps one or two people, not 41.” (via Stranger)
Hasan would have been able to shoot perhaps one or two people, not 41.When asked if ordinary soldiers nearby had been carrying their service weapons, Fort Hood spokesman Lt. Gen Robert Cone said piously, “We do not carry weapons. This is our home.” Defense is out-sourced to military police, or even — oh the indignity! — to civilian policemen.
This is not the first time American …

The 220 votes for health care reform in the House included just one Republican, Anh “Joseph” Cao of Louisiana, a man GOP leader John Boehner once called “the future” of the Republican Party. Cao, who unfortunately voted for the anti-abortion amendment to the bill, issued a statement on his vote.
Of his vote, Cao said: “Tonight, I voted to keep taxpayer dollars from funding abortion and to deliver access to affordable health care to the people of Louisiana.
Cao said: “I read the versions of the House [health reform] bill. I listened to the countless stories of Orleans and …
