This seat had been held by Republican John McHugh. The region had been considered solidly Republican for more than 100 years. It was the most closely watched race of the night.
He defeated Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, who was backed by national conservative and GOP leaders, who was disenchanted with the positions taken by Republican nominee Dede Scozzafava. Scozzafava, out of money and running a poor third in the polls, dropped out of the race on Saturday and endorsed the Democratic candidate on Sunday.…

Police were called to at least two polling places in St. Lawrence County because of “overzealous electioneering”. June O’Nell, former Democratic state chairwoman reported this to the NY Daily News, calling it “voter intimidation.”
“We’ve gotten reports that people are standing there, covered with Hoffman stickers and yelling anti-choice stuff at voters,” said O’Neill, a St. Lawrence native who has been running the party’s GOTV effort for Bill Owens in NY-23.
“Apparently, there’s some woman claiming to be a commissioner,” O’Neill continued. “Commissioner of what, I don’t know. She’s from Texas, I think, and she won’t leave.”

Conservatives who claim they love capitalism somehow resent that Al Gore invests in what he believes, and that it’s paying off. The headline in the UK’s Telegraph, “Al Gore could be come world’s first carbon billionaire,” really annoys the global warming deniers.
Last year Mr Gore’s venture capital firm loaned a small California firm $75m to develop energy-saving technology. The company, Silver Spring Networks, produces hardware and software to make the electricity grid more efficient.
The deal appeared to pay off in a big way last week, when the Energy Department announced $3.4 billion in smart grid …

Congressman Joe “You Lie” Wilson told the right-wing CNS News that the Obama administration is “solely responsible” for the vaccine shortage.
“The current administration is solely responsible. They can’t blame this on any prior administration,” said Wilson. “This is the responsibility of the current administration. They’ve put the lives of Americans at risk.”
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee shows that it was Wilson and other Republicans cast votes that got us to this point.
The DCCC pointed to a June vote on a supplementary appropriations bill as evidence. Wilson joined 95% of Republicans and voted against …
