Arnold Says Sarah Is Playing Politics On Global Warming

In an interview in the Financial Times, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger suggests that Sarah Palin is playing politics with her current position on climate change (h/t Think Progress)
“You have to ask: what was she trying to accomplish? ” said Mr Schwarzenegger. “Is she really interested in this subject or is she interested in her career and in winning the [Republican] nomination [for president]? You have to take all these things with a grain of salt.”
We we have pointed out her positions have been ever-changing on the issue. And as Eugene Robinson in the Washington …

Because of the work of Citizens Responsibility for Ethics in Washington and the National Security Archive, 22 million emails that were missing in the Bush White House have been recovered. It will be at least until 2014 before the public sees what’s in them because of the process these records must go through.
The Bush team says these emails were already recovered, and it’s liberal groups that are still going after Bush and distorting the issue.
Former Bush White House spokesman Scott Stanzel said the 22 million e-mails already had been recovered while Bush was still in office and that …

Three masked men waving Nazi flags tried to disrupt a Chanukah menorah lighting ceremony, but they were roundly ignored.
Fairfield First Selectman Kenneth Flatto says he and others at Sunday’s event at the Sherman Green gazebo ignored the men while lighting a menorah on the third night of Hanukkah.
The three men stayed about 20 yards from the gazebo and shouted obscenities. Flatto says he called police and the men fled when officers arrived. Police followed the car, but it’s unclear whether they caught the men.
You can’t blame them for wearing masks. They probably don’t …

On the homepage of the North Dakota Republican Party, they joke about Obama being born in in another country. The president is depicted asking the Salahis to see their invitation, with Michaele Salahi replying, “If I can see your birth certificate!”
Yeah, it’s a joke, and it’s not unfunny, but is this the message the Republicans want to transmit?

Matt Fox and AJ Rice produce material for right-wing talk show hosts. Their latest creation is featured at Human Events, followed by its conservative readership commenting upon how “brilliant” and “classy” it is. Sung to the tune of “Feliz Navidad,” it uses every stereotype we’ve heard about immigrants, with such lines as:
Illegals in my yard.
Illegals in my yard.
Illegals in my yard.
When they’re not working, they sit at the bar.
They’re going to drink some cervezas this Christmas.
They’re going to shoot some tequila this Christmas.
They’re going to get DUIs this Christmas.
Those illegals in …

Greg Sargent at “The Plum Line” obtained video of Joe Lieberman’s interview with the Connecticut Post, where he advocated expanding Medicare even beyond what the current Senate bill does.
“When it came to Medicare I was very focused on a group — post 50, maybe more like post 55. People who have retired early, or unfortunately have been laid off early, who lose their health insurance and they’re too young to qualify for Medicare.
“What I was proposing was that they have an option to buy into Medicare early and again on the premise that that would …

If Harry Reid makes a deal with Joe Lieberman on the health care bill, it would mean no expansion of Medicare benefits. Reid risks losing progressives if he gives Lieberman what he wants. The problem is the ever-changing positions of Lieberman.
Democrats are frustrated because they believe Lieberman keeps moving the goal posts. He supported the Medicare buy in the 2000 presidential campaign, and in September reiterated support for the plan in an interview with the Connecticut Post.
Lieberman has denied giving his approval of the Medicare buy-in during the negotiations last week among a …

Attracting cries of “socialism” from wary conservatives, banks received TARP money to preserve the banking system. Now, many of them are paying the money back. Citigroup is putting $20 billion back into the treasury. Bank of America paid back $45 billion December 9, two years ahead of schedule. JP Morgan Chase paid back $25 billion, Goldman Sachs $10 billion and Morgan Stanley $10 billion on June 9.
Of the 737 institutions that received bailout funds, 51 other banks have wiped out their financial obligation to the Feds according to ProPublica’s database on the subject.
Obligations the government …

Senator Joe Lieberman, whose vote is crucial to passing the Senate health care bill, already compromised because of Blue Dog Democrats, supported the very measure he now says he’s against when he was Al Gore’s running mate in 2000. TPM unearthed an interview Lieberman gave after a town town meeting to the Bangor Daily News in 2000.
In an interview after the town meeting, Lieberman said that health care changes can only come incrementally, which is why the Democratic ticket hasn’t proposed an overhaul of the system. “The kinds of proposals that Al Gore and I are making are the …
