Chuck Norris Says With Obamacare Mary Might Have Aborted Jesus

chuck_norris-cropped-proto-custom_21

Actor, martial artist, and political pundit Chuck Norris says if Obamacare had existed back then, Mary might have aborted Jesus (h/t TPM).

What would have happened if Mother Mary had been covered by Obamacare? What if that young, poor and uninsured teenage woman had been provided the federal funds (via Obamacare) and facilities (via Planned Parenthood, etc.) to avoid the ridicule, ostracizing, persecution and possible stoning because of her out-of-wedlock pregnancy? Imagine all the great souls who could have been erased from history and the influence of mankind if their parents had been as progressive as Washington’s wise men …

Health Care Reform’s Biggest Impediment Now: Ben Nelson

1247678171-bennelson

Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska, the new Lieberman, is rejecting compromise on the abortion issue, which threatens to derail the entire health care plan.

Nelson told KLIN radio in Lincoln, Nebraska, Thursday that an attempt at compromise doesn’t get to the fundamental issue of barring federal funding for abortions.

Nelson says without further changes the compromise isn’t sufficient.

And Nelson says abortion isn’t his only concern.  But one month ago, as Steve Benen notes, Nelson was singing a different tune, agreeing to abide by less restrictive language approved by the Senate Finance Committee. And one of …

Mother’s Judgment Questioned For Announcing Child’s Death On Twitter

Shellie_9-9-09_bigger

Shellie Ross was Tweeting from her Florida home at 5:22 p.m. Monday about how foggy it was. At 5:30 p.m. she called 911 saying her son Bryson was lying at the bottom of the pool.

At 6:12 p.m. she tweeted again: “Please pray like never before, my 2 yr old fell in the pool.” And five hours later, she wrote that she was “remembering my million dollar baby,” posting photos of the little boy.

Shortly thereafter, there was strong reaction from the Twitter community about the timeline, and whether the mom was too busy communicating with the rest …

Leading Economic Indicators Rise For Eighth Straight Month

It looks like we’re headed in the right, er, make that “correct,” direction.

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — The index of leading economic indicators rose for the eight straight month, pointing to an improved economy in 2010, the private Conference Board said Thursday. The index increased 0.9% in November after a 0.3% gain in October, the research group said. Six of the 10 leading indicators were positive. For the first time since December 2007, employment did not make a negative contribution to the index, potentially a good sign for future job growth, the board said.…

Contrary To Right-Wing Claims, Americans Want Health Care Reform

One of the drumbeats by the right is that reforming health care goes against the will of the American people. Besides the fact that a Democratic president and an overwhelmingly Democratic Congress were elected to make this kind of reform, many polls show that Americans do want specific changes.  Yes, it’s true that a new NBC/WSJ poll indicates a turning away from reform, with just 32% saying it’s a good idea, but a series of other polls show otherwise, when Americans are asked about specific changes that could be enacted.

CBS News/New York Times poll: 59 percent favor “the …

Sarah Palin Wears Cap With McCain’s Name Blacked Out (UPDATED)

1216_sarah_palin_launch_v3

While vacationing post book-tour, Sarah Palin donned a cap with the word “McCain” embroidered on it. It appears, however, that an attempt was made to black out that name.  Can’t wait to hear the explanation.

UPDATE: Palin told Politico that she was just trying to go “incognito.”

“I am so sorry if people took this silly incident the wrong way. I adore John McCain, support him 100 percent and will do everything I can to support his reelection. As everyone knows, I was honored and proud to run with him. And Todd and I were with …

Republicans Start To Read 767-Page Amendment On Senate Floor To Slow Down Reform

deminttwitter

Using whatever pathetic means they have at their disposal, Republicans in the Senate decided to read Sen. Bernie Sanders’s 767-page amendment that would create a single-payer system by putting everyone on the Medicare rolls.

Republican Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma insisted on the reading after Democrats rejected his proposal to require health amendments be introduced 72 hours ahead of consideration and with a full cost estimate, too. He’d threatened to do the same thing for the main overhaul bill last month, but didn’t follow through.

Sanders has pulled the amendment in the interest of getting to the business senators …

John Podesta Makes The Progressive Case For Passing The Health Care Bill

johnpodesta

We all acknowledge the health care bill is far from perfect.  However, there are good reasons to pass it, and Center for American Progress‘s John Podesta makes the case, saying, “it would represent the most significant public reform of our health care system that Congress has passed in the 40 plus years I have worked in politics. The bill will give health care coverage to a record 31 million Americans who are currently uninsured, lay a foundation that will begin to lower costs for millions of families, and provide all Americans with the access to adequate and dependable …
