Right-Wing Crazy: Hugh Hewitt Compares US Aiding Haiti To Invading Iraq, Adding Iraq More Legal

Agreeing with Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez, radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt says the United States has “invaded Haiti” during an interview with writer Christopher Hitchens.  Hitchens slightly demurs, and agrees with much of Hewitt’s analysis. (via Think Progress)

HH: We’ve invaded Haiti. We dropped troops on the presidential palace yesterday. The difference between Bush invading Iraq, and Obama invading Haiti, is that Bush had Congressional authorization. I’m glad that President Obama has done this, but don’t you find it odd that the left is all quiet as to this extraordinary exercise in presidential prerogative unguided by, unauthorized …

Pelosi Says She Lacks Votes To Pass Senate Health Plan

pelosi1

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says the health care bill passed by the Senate wouldn’t fly in the House.

“In its present form,” Pelosi of California told reporters today, “I don’t think it’s possible to pass the Senate bill in the House.”

Even so, she said everything is on the table in health-care talks. “We have to get a bill passed. We know that,” she said.…

Time To Eliminate The Filibuster. Is It Even Constitutional?

filibuster

Attorney Thomas Geoghegan, writing in the New York Times earlier in the month, questioned whether the filibuster is constitutional.

Here’s why. First, the Constitution explicitly requires supermajorities only in a few special cases: ratifying treaties and constitutional amendments, overriding presidential vetoes, expelling members and for impeachments.

Second, Article I, Section 3, expressly says that the vice president as the presiding officer of the Senate should cast the deciding vote when senators are “equally divided.” The procedural filibuster does an end run around this constitutional requirement, which presumed that on the truly contested bills there would be ties. With supermajority …

John Edwards Admits Paternity

g-tdy-100120-edwards-601p.h2

Former senator and vice presidential candidate John Edwards has finally admitted he is the father of Rielle Hunter’s two-year-old daughter, Quinn. Edwards released a statement to NBC News.

“I am Quinn’s father. I will do everything in my power to provide her with the love and support she deserves. I have been able to spend time with her during the past year and trust that future efforts to show her the love and affection she deserves can be done privately and in peace.

It was wrong for me ever to deny she was my daughter and hopefully one day, when

Tea Partier, Former Marine, Arrested For Rape; Grenade Launcher Found In Home

Charles Johnson has the story of Charles Dyer, a featured speaker at the July 4 Oklahoma tea party, now behind bars and charged with rape.

Police said that when they served a search warrant, they uncovered evidence that now has federal officials looking into the case.

“We come home and those bastards want to talk about how we’re domestic terrorists and a threat to this country. It makes me so angry,” said Charles Dyer, who has been accused of committing rape.

Dyer has been charged with first degree rape. When police searched Dyer’s home for evidence on that charge, they …

Flag Calling For “Second Revolution” Distributed At Scott Brown Victory Party

Think Progress was at the Boston Park Plaza Tuesday night and saw a variant of the Revolutionary War flag, with the Roman numeral II distributed by Jeff McQueen, a tea party organizer. McQueen says the II pertains to both the Second Amendment and a hoped-for second American revolution.  McQueen’s website explains his agenda.

We are now as divided as America was in the 1860s. When two people find they can no longer communicate, while living under the same roof, they often split apart and go there seperate ways. So what if . . . we took the United States and …

Just So You Know This Level Of Hatred Exists (Updated)

facebook-haiti-hate

Laffy at The Political Carnival did something almost no one else has ever done: gotten Facebook to respond to something. As a result of her efforts along with Tom Wellborn and radio host Angie Coiro, Facebook shut down a page called “F*** The Haiti Earthquake.”  The screen shot shows the demented posters drawn to this disgusting display.

UPDATE: The haters are back, with slight changes to conform to Facebook rules.…

Cindy McCain Joins NO H8 Campaign

0651

We know that daughter Meghan McCain is for marriage equality, but we also know that husband John campaigned against the right for gays to marry.  So, it’s quite a surprise that Cindy McCain has joined the NO H8 Campaign, which collects images in opposition to California’s Proposition 8.

“In the year since we’ve started the NOH8 Campaign, we’ve been surprised at some of the different individuals who have approached us showing their support. Few, though, have surprised us more than Cindy McCain — the wife of Senator John McCain and mother to vocal marriage equality advocate Meghan McCain. The …

Obama: Don’t Jam Health Care Bill Through Before Brown Is Seated

d0ce0aac-8365-49b9-a34b-381aad52fa69-big

President Obama says Democrats shouldn’t vote on health care until Scott Brown is seated and there is Republican support.

“The people of Massachusetts spoke. He’s got to be part of that process,” Obama said.

Now Democrats need to reach across the aisle on popular health care provisions such as cost controls and aid to small businesses, he said.

One option is to try to get the House on board with the Senate bill; another is to promise changes later on.

A third option emerged Wednesday – a scaled-back bill that would keep centrist Democrats in line and perhaps attract the …

How Creepy Was Scott Brown Pimping Out His Daughters?

After thanking his daughters for helping out during his victory speech, Senator-Elect Scott Brown said, “Just in case anybody across the country who’s watching, yes, they’re both available.”

As the crowd started to hoot – and a look of extreme annoyance crossed the face of daughter Arianna, and his wife Gail let out a mortified gasp – the future senator did his best to reel in his comment.

“No, no. No. Only kidding, only kidding. Only kidding, only kidding,” he said. “Arianna… Arianna’s, definitely not available.”

“But Ayla is,” he added, eliciting a gasp this time from Ayla.

Ayla …
