Glenn Richardson was a family values Republican representing Paulding County, Georgia, and was the House speaker; that is, until his wife accused him of having an affair with a lobbyist.

So when Paulding County voters went to the polls for a special election Tuesday, they selected … another family-values conservative who had admitted to an extramarital affair!

Meet newly minted Rep. Daniel Stout (pictured).

Stout touts “strong…conservative principles” on his website, with lots of values-type verbiage: “I want to ensure that the values of the people of Paulding County are represented in the State House.”  However, 10 years ago, Stout had an affair with his first wife’s mother.  Stout’s reply to questions about it was, “I hurt some people,” and:

Ten years ago I committed adultery that led to a divorce from my first wife. While the relationship was stopped short of “sex”, I recognize my mistake as adulterous and unfaithful nonetheless. I own the reality of the pain I caused to my first wife, my daughter and others. This humbling experience changed my life dramatically.

I have asked for and received forgiveness from my first wife, my daughter, my family, my friends, my church, my community and, most importantly, God.
