Limbaugh: “Obama Is A Cargo Cult…A Primitive Indigenous Guy”
Rush Limbaugh first reads an article in the American Thinker by Randall Hoven proclaiming President Obama a “cargo cult,” and then he reads the Wikipedia explanation of it. (via The Political Carnival). After that he vigorously agrees, exalting, “Obama is a cargo cult…a primitive indigenous guy.” Sounds like Limbaugh is about to suggest Obama pose for National Geographic.

After complaining that the health care reform bills are too long, House Minority Leader John Boehner now says President Obama’s proposal is too short. (via Think Progress). Boehner said in October: “All you need to know is there are 1,990 pages… That should tell you everything.” Now, Boehner says the president’s plan is too short, according to his spokesman.
“The White House’s ‘plan’ consists of an 11-page outline, which has not been scored by the Congressional Budget Office or posted online as legislative text. So they want to reorganize one-sixth of the United States’ economy with a …

Platte County School District No. 1 in Weatland, WY banned anti-hate banners because they’re co-sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League and the Gay and Lesbian Fund of Colorado.
“We’re a conservative community. We don’t need extremist organizations coming in propagating their liberal views,” said dance studio owner Joe Fabian, a school board trustee.
Starting in 2008, an elementary and a high school in the district signed up for “No Place for Hate,” a project run by the Anti-Defamation League in Colorado and Wyoming. The initiative works to “enhance the appreciation of diversity and foster harmony amongst diverse groups,” its mission states, …

It’s one of the most bizarre statements ever made by an elected official. Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons had to answer very personal questions in a deposition.
He was questioned by the lawyer for a Las Vegas woman who alleges that Gibbons groped and assaulted her in a parking garage after a night of drinking.
…
Attorneys in both of those proceedings have questioned whether Gibbons is a philanderer and womanizer. The questions that have been raised in both cases have focused on intensely personal matters that have spilled out into the governor’s public life.

Glenn Greenwald (pictured), who appears on radio with me later this week, looks into what was behind the New York Times op-ed by Lara M. Dadkhah urging that we worry less about civilian casualties in Afghanistan. Last week Greenwald railed against the lack of information about who this writer is, as the Times made only vague references to her work in the defense industry.
What bizarre behavior from the NYT: it publishes an extremist, repellent Op-Ed calling, in essence, for the deaths of more innocent Afghans and accusing the Obama administration of sacrificing the lives of American troops due to …

Funny that Scott Brown, heralded as having achieved “the tea party’s first electoral victory,” was key to helping Democrats get a jobs bill past the filibuster, the first bi-partisan victory in the new Senate.
The 62-30 tally to advance the measure to a final vote on Wednesday gives both President Barack Obama and Capitol Hill Democrats a much-needed victory — even though the measure in question is likely to have only a modest boost on hiring.
Brown and four other Republicans broke with GOP leaders to advance the measure. Most other Republicans voted in favor of the filibuster …

Think Progress caught up with Iowa Congressman Steve King at CPAC, where King took credit for being at the forefront of the anti-IRS movement and seemed to give some justification to the actions of suicide pilot Joseph Stack:
TP: Do you think this attack, this terrorist attack, was motivated at all by a lot of the anti-tax rhetoric that’s popular in America right now?
KING: I think if we’d abolished the IRS back when I first advocated it, he wouldn’t have a target for his airplane. And I’m still for abolishing the IRS, I’ve been for it for …

• Alan recaps the Conservative Political Action Conference with Max Blumenthal, author of Republican Gomorrah: Inside the Movement that Shattered the Party.
• How could anyone sympathize with the suicide pilot who crashed his a plane into an IRS building? Alan questions the sanity of those who seek to justify the motives of a madman.
• Yet another terrorist is being sent away for life by a civilian court. Alan wonders why there’s any remaining doubt that America’s justice system is well-equipped to handle terror trials.…

The US Geological Survey is reporting that ice shelves on the Antarctic peninsula are retreating because of climate change, which could lead to rising sea levels and threats to low-lying islands and coastal communities globally.
Research by the U.S. Geological Survey is the first to document that every ice front in the southern part of the Antarctic Peninsula has been retreating overall from 1947 to 2009, with the most dramatic changes occurring since 1990. The USGS previously documented that the majority of ice fronts on the entire Peninsula have also retreated during the late 20th century and into the early …

At a Virginia press conference to oppose funding for Planned Parenthood, Delegate Bob Marshall said women who have abortions cause God to punish their subsequent children. (h/t RightWingWatch)
“The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps has increased dramatically. Why? Because when you abort the first born of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children,” said Marshall, a Republican.
“In the Old Testament, the first born of every being, animal and man, was dedicated to the Lord. There’s a special punishment Christians would suggest.”
It was mostly Christian pastors and clergy …
