Climate Change For Dummies, Courtesy Barack Obama

It’s really not that hard to understand. Speaking at a Nevada town hall meeting, Obama makes it easy for the deniers. (h/t Think Progress)

First of all, we just got five feet of snow in Washington and so everybody’s like-a lot of the people who are opponents of climate change, they say, “See, look at that. There’s all this snow on the ground, you know, this doesn’t mean anything.” I want to just be clear that the science of climate change doesn’t mean that every place is getting warmer. It means the planet as a whole is getting warmer. …

Alexander Haig Dead At 85

PH2010022001336

Alexander Haig was Ronald Reagan’s first secretary of state, and a 1988 presidential candidate. He served as chief of staff to President Nixon during the Watergate scandal that led to Nixon’s resignation.

Gen. Haig’s influence peaked in his late 40s during Nixon’s last 16 months in office, when brewing developments in the Watergate scandal damaged and increasingly distracted the president. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger famously told Gen. Haig to keep the country together while he held the world together during one of the greatest constitutional crises in the nation’s history. Special prosecutor Leon Jaworski, and many others, called Gen. …

“Family Guy” Actress With Down Syndrome Tells Palin To Develop Sense Of Humor

s-PALIN-GUY-large

Andrea Fay Friedman is the voice actress who played Ellen on “Family Guy.”  Ellen was portrayed as having Down syndrome and who, on a date with a regular character named Chris, says her mother is the governor of Alaska.  An outraged Sarah Palin called it “a kick in the gut.” Feldman, who herself has Down Syndrome, suggested that Palin learn the meaning of sarcasm.

My name is Andrea Fay Friedman. I was born with Down syndrome. I played the role of Ellen on the “Extra Large Medium” episode of Family Guy that was broadcast on Valentine’s day. Although …

CPAC Insults Gays

CWA-Image

California Young Americans for Freedom member Ryan Sorba slammed CPAC for accepting GOProud, a gay group, as co-sponsor. When he was roundly booed, he shouted back, “The lesbians at Smith College protest better than you.”

And this insulting banner certainly isn’t going to win gay converts to conservatism (h/t RightWingWatch)

Palin, Who Left Policy Job For $, Not At CPAC Because It’s “Pocketbook Over Policy”

091018_palin_ap_223

Sarah Palin left a job where she had an opportunity to influence policy in order to sign lucrative book and television deals. Then she raked in more than $100,000 talking to the pay-for-play Nashville tea party convention. Yet the stated reason for not being at CPAC is that they place ”special interests over core beliefs” and “pocketbook over policy,” according to a source close to the former governor.

“That’s not what CPAC should be about and people are tiring,” the source said. “Palin is taking a stance against this just as she did in Alaska.” When asked about the move, Palin …

Congressman Steve King: Liberals and Progressives Are The Enemy

After detailing his enemies list of “liberals, Progressives, Che Guevarians, Castroites, Socialists, Gramscites, Trotskyites, Maoists, Leninists, Stalinists, Marxists, and Democratic Socialists” at CPAC, Iowa Rep. Steve King said, “I don’t want to meet with the President of the United States and see what other kind of toxic stew he’s going to serve up to us.”  Nice.  (h/t RightWingWatch)

Shocker: Tiger Woods Is “Deeply Sorry”; Also Says “I Need Help”

tiger_woods_021810_splash_m

But what is he sorry about? Is he sorry he got caught, lost loads of money, and has a wife on the verge of divorcing him? His heavily controlled “press conference,” with only a handful of carefully selected reporters, none of whom were allowed to ask questions, delivered some these quotes.

  • “I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior that I engaged in.”
  • “I was unfaithful, I had affairs, I cheated. What I did was not acceptable. I am the only person to blame.”
  • “I convinced myself that normal rules didn’t apply. I never thought about who I …

Pass The Public Option Through Reconciliation

    Jeanne_Shaheen-cropped-proto-custom_2

This is the best hope to reform health care in the most progressive way given current circumstances.  Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire (pictured) has become the 18th senator to sign a letter to urging leadership to pass the public option via reconciliation.

Shaheen’s office confirmed that she signed, following Sens. Chuck Schumer, Barbara Mikulski and Frank Lautenberg today.

The letter was written by Sen. Michael Bennet and will be sent to Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Other signatories so far: Sens. Bernie Sanders (VT), Al Franken (MN), Patrick Leahy (VT), John Kerry (MA), Sheldon Whitehouse (RI), Sherrod Brown (OH), Kirsten …

    Nastiness From CPAC

If liberals spoke this way about George W. Bush, the right wing would be apoplectic.  At the Conservative Political Action Conference, it was less about their vision of America than it was insulting the opposition.

Jason Mattera of “Young America’s Foundation” accused President Obama of being a cokehead: “Our notion of freedom doesn’t consist of snorting cocaine. Which is certainly one thing that separates us from Barack Obama.”

Liz Cheney says Obama’s “incompetence gets people killed.”

Dick Armey says Obama is nothing more than a self-righteous, self-indulgent, shallow, arrogant, incompetent ideologue who doesn’t know anything about anything:

    Stephen Baldwin said …

Was Joseph Andrew Stack A Terrorist? Was He Left Or Right?

    0218102inside2

The battle begins as to whether to define the act of flying a plane in to an IRS building as one of terrorism.

But the pattern of the attack – including that Mr. Stack apparently lit his house on fire beforehand – fits less into the mold of a terror conspiracy and more neatly into a profile of the solo-flying rebel with a personal beef, the details of which are fueled by partisan rhetoric and current events.

“I know [Stack] wasn’t part of al Qaida or a white power group, but how can this not qualify as an act …
