House Minority Leader John Boehner went after the White House for doing exactly what he suggested they do. It began with a letter to White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel urging that a proposal be put on line in advance of a bipartisan summit. Chris Bowers at Open Left sums it up:
So, four days later, the White House accepted this demand, and announced it would post a legislative proposal online more than 72 hours before the summit:
Since this meeting will be most productive if information is widely available before the meeting, we will post online the text …

Indiana Senator Evan Bayh is expected to announce today that he will not seek reelection.
“After all these years, my passion for service to my fellow citizens is undiminished, but my desire to do so by serving in Congress has waned,” Bayh will say.
Bayh will announce the decision at a press conference later today. He was first elected to the Senate in 1998 and was re-elected easily in 2004. National Republicans had recruited former Sen. Dan Coats to challenge Bayh in 2010 although polling suggested Bayh began the race with a 20-point edge. He also had $13 million in …

Taking the obvious side in the war of words between former Vice President Cheney and his successor, Joe Biden, Ann Coulter weighted in on Geraldo At Large.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney criticized one-time governor Sarah Palin for saying Obama could firm up his reelection chances if he “played the war card” with Iran. On “This Week” Cheney was dismissive of this idea. (h/t Think Progress)
CHENEY: I don’t think a president can make a judgment like that on the basis of politics. The stakes are too high, the consequences too significant to be treating those as simple political calculations.

Sam “Joe the Plumber” Wurzelbacher is angry at John McCain. Speaking in Pennsylvania, Wurzelbacher said McCain “is no public servant.”
“McCain was trying to use me,” Wurzelbacher said, according to public radio correspondent Scott Detrow. “I happened to be the face of middle Americans. It was a ploy.”
“I don’t owe him s—,” Wurzelbacher continued. “He really screwed my life up, is how I look at it.”
And he doesn’t like Sarah Palin, either, because she’s going to campaign for McCain’s reelection.…

The New York Times Sunday Magazine shows how a strong Christian fundamentalist strain is changing the way history is being written. The extremely influential Texas State Board of Education, in deciding changes to the state’s curriculum, was strong-armed by arch conservatives, as member Don McLeroy (pictured) proposed many amendments to give textbooks a strong fundamentalist Christian bent.
McLeroy moved that Margaret Sanger, the birth-control pioneer, be included because she “and her followers promoted eugenics,” that language be inserted about Ronald Reagan’s “leadership in restoring national confidence” following Jimmy Carter’s presidency and that students be instructed to “describe the causes and …

Georgia Right To Life put up a billboard saying “BLACK CHILDREN ARE AN ENDANGERED SPECIES“. (h/t The Political Carnival)
The eyebrow-raising ads featuring a young black child are an effort by the anti-abortion movement to use race to rally support within the black community. The reaction from black leaders has been mixed, but the “Too Many Aborted” campaign, which so far is unique to only Georgia, is drawing support from other anti-abortion groups across the country.
“It’s ingenious,” said the Rev. Johnny Hunter, national director of the Life Education and Resource Network, a North Carolina-based anti-abortion group …

NATO rockets missed its intended target and struck a house, resulting in the death of 12 civilians in the town of Marjah, population 80,000.
Afghan and international troops want to secure the area, set up a local government and rush in development aid in what is seen as the first test of the new U.S. strategy for turning the tide of the 8-year-old war. The civilian deaths were a blow to NATO and the Afghan government’s attempts to win the allegiance of Afghans and get them to turn away from the insurgents.
NATO said two rockets from a High Mobility …
