Rep. Anthony Weiner Uses Facts To Bury Rep. Garrett and NY Reporter

Weiner

by Thomas Wellborn

Rep. Scott Garrett’s attempt to ally with this reporter against Congressman Weiner backfires when they’re successfully rebuffed by the facts.

Weiner: I’ve done 16 town hall meetings about this. We’ve gone through that period when people were angry to were people want to understand it. We need to solve the problem of uninsured people.

Garrett: This bill is not good for people in the area. At the end of the day Anthony will be voting no.

Weiner: The last person I’ll listen to about my constituents is Congressman Garrett. Not a single Republican is going to do

Rep. Paul Broun Compares Health Reform To “The Great War Of Yankee Aggression”

by Thomas Wellborn

On the eve of the Health Care Reform legislation vote, Republicans have upped their rhetoric from downright mean to borderline bizarre.  From the floor of the House of Representatives last night, Rep. Paul Broun, well-known for his unsubstantiated propaganda against President Obama, claimed “ObamaCare” is a “Free Insurance Card” for all (this isn’t in the bill).  He called the bill “as worthless as a Confederate dollar after the ‘Great War of Yankee Aggression’.”

BROUN:  If ObamaCare passes, that free insurance card that’s in people’s pockets is gonna be as worthless as a Confederate dollar after the

Republican Lawyers Preparing To Sue To Stop Health Care Reform

The sickening display of congressional regressives continues, as GOP lawyers are gearing up to sue should health care reform pass.

“There is a lot of discussion among various lawyers and we’ve had some conference calls,” said Cleta Mitchell, a Washington attorney long active in GOP circles. “People are just distraught that the Democrats are even contemplating doing something like this. It’s utter lawlessness to deem a bill passed without voting for it. It’s horrific.”

It has been well-documented that Republicans have used the same procedures when they were in power, but there wasn’t this kind of bitter outcry from Democrats …

Michele Bachmann Means No Disrespect When She Accuses Media Of “Treason”

bachmann

by Thomas Wellborn

BACHMANN (On Bill Bennett’s radio show 3/18/10): Well, I’m amazed that they actually were willing to be shocked. Because for most of the time they have been, and you know, I don’t mean any disrespect, but they’ve been treason media. They haven’t been telling the whole story. Unlike the shows like yours. You’re doing that.

Bachmann spends a great deal of her time courting the media.  Her sudden, bizarre condemnation of them, however, isn’t exactly out of character, given her unpredictable history.…

Effigy Of Obama Found Hanging At School

Rhode Island

by Thomas Wellborn

At a failing school in Rhode Island where all the teachers were recently fired, a teacher hung an effigy of President Barack Obama in his classroom.  The motivation appeared to be anger over the president’s measures to ensure accountability in the US public school system.

The Associated Press:

President Obama had called the firings in Central Falls an example of holding failing schools accountable. The White House did not have any immediate comment Thursday. U.S. Secret Service spokesman Malcolm Wiley said the agency was aware of the doll but declined to comment further.

The president of the

Betsy Markey To Vote Yes On Health Care, Even If It Costs Her Career

Betsy_Markey

Rep. Betsy Markey (D-CO), who was elected in 2008 to a seat long held by Republicans, just announced that she’s moved from the No to Yes column on health care reform.

Her brave decision could end up costing her a seat in Congress, as she was already facing a tough re-election contest this November.

The National Republican Congressional Committee is already labeling her Betsy Markey-Mezvinsky, in reference to former Rep. Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky (D-PA), who lost her seat for voting to support President Clinton’s economic plan in 1993. Margolies-Mezvinsky’s vote was needed to proceed with the policies that led to …

Iowa Congressman Steve King told Glenn Beck on his radio show that voting on Sunday for the health care bill, “take(s) away the liberty that we have right from God.”

Choi_WH1

Lt. Daniel Choi, who received a letter of discharge from the military after coming out on Rachel Maddow’s show, was arrested after chaining himself to a White House gate.

Following a Human Rights Campaign rally for DADT repeal in Washington earlier today, Choi and [Jim] Pietrangelo led about 100 protesters to the White House, where the two then proceeded to handcuff themselves to the gates.

United States Park Police spokesman Sgt. David Schlosser told The Advocate that both men were taken to Park Police’s Anacostia station, where they were charged with failure to obey a lawful order. Choi and Pietrangelo …
