Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has signed a follow-up bill to the new immigration law that she says should ease fears of racial profiling.

“These new statements make it crystal clear and undeniable that racial profiling is illegal, and will not be tolerated in Arizona,” she said in a statement.

The changes include one strengthening restrictions against using race or ethnicity as the basis for questioning by police and inserts those same restrictions in other parts of the law.

Another change states that immigration-status questions would follow a law enforcement officer’s stopping, detaining or arresting a person while enforcing another law. …

A Pinal County sheriff’s deputy was shot, allegedly by a member of a group of illegal immigrants.  Lt. Tammy Villar, a spokesperson for the sheriffs, says the unidentified deputy is being treated for his wounds, and that the shooter used an AK-47.

Villar said the deputy was working alone when he stopped two suspects and one of them reportedly pulled out an AK47 assault rifle, shooting the deputy in the abdomen.…

Never Have So Many Done So Little

xq03M

By William K. Wolfrum

As the U.S. media and most of the political blogosphere bounces from one political atrocity to the next, it’s often easy to forget that the U.S. is a nation at war. In two separate nations. With other hot spots being dealt with simultaneously. The photo here (via Prose Before Hos)  is a distinct reminder that while the majority of the U.S. lives in a world untouched by war, the military is still out there, day after day, death after death.

The U.S. has been at war in Afghanistan for nearly nine years, and at war in …

Absolutely Clueless

wall_street_sign_fl_562168g

by James Frye

Reminiscent of the infamous Rick Santelli rant credited for starting the Tea Party “movement,” there’s a report from the Business Insider site of an even nastier anonymous little email circulating on Wall Street.

The gist of it is a “Going Galt” fantasy of what would happen if stockbrokers were forced out of their jobs by us evil liberals and the Obama administration. As if we ever had that intention in the first place.

Turns out that the ones hurting if that were to happen, according to this email, would be us regular folks and not the Business …

John Boehner Takes Credit For “Common Sense” Parts Of Health Care; Previously Said It Had No GOP Ideas

john-boehner-cropped-proto-custom_2

House Minority Leader John Boehner told NPR’s Steve Inskeep that the more popular parts of the health care reform bill were Republican ideas, which is funny, given that Boehner previously complained that there wasn’t “a single major GOP reform” in it.

Inskeep asked Boehner if he would also repeal some of the more popular and immediate parts of the bill, like allowing kids under the age of 26 to stay on their parents’ health care plans, or ending the insurance company practice of canceling coverage when someone gets sick.

Boehner said: “Both of those ideas, by the way, came from …

Democratic Immigration Bill Includes Biometric National ID Card

sscard_chip

The immigration bill being proposed by Democrats includes a provision for what is being a called a “biometric Social Security card.” Democrats claim it is not the same thing as a national ID card and can be used only for employment purposes.  The cards will be used to crack down on employers and be fraud-resistant.

“These cards will be fraud-resistant, tamper-resistant, wear resistant, and machine-readable social security cards containing a photograph and an electronically coded micro-processing chip which possesses a unique biometric identifier for the authorized card-bearer,” reads the bill summary.

The bill would also increase border security and create …

“Drill Here Drill Now” Campaign Continues; Ignores “Spill Here”

drill-baby-wtf

The bumper-sticker-friendly “Drill Here Drill Now,” which makes a nice sound bite, doesn’t really sound so good in light of the Earth Day oil rig disaster that continues to spill more oil each day. But that isn’t stopping the proponents of drilling for oil at all costs.
(via Think Progress)

Oil lobbyists and conservative think tanks continue to push for drilling, oblivious to the costs,  environmental disasters and other dangers their policies cause.…
