Florida Governor Charlie Crist, once considered Republican VP material, officially announced today that he is losing the Republican label to run for Senate as an independent.  Challenged from the right by tea party candidate Marco Rubio, Crist no longer fits into the GOP game plan.

“My decision to run for the U.S. Senate as a candidate without party affiliation says more about our nation and our state than it says about me,” Mr. Crist said. “Unfortunately our political system is broken. I think we need a new tone in Washington.”
