New Nebraska Anti-Abortion Law May Never Be Implemented

Even proponents of Nebraska’s new, restrictive abortion law acknowledge it may never see the light of day. It bans all abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy and may never pass a Supreme Court test.
Mary Spaulding Balch, legislative director for National Right to Life, said a court injunction will likely prevent the implementation of the law. The measure passed last week by Nebraska’s nonpartisan Legislature and signed into law by Republican Gov. Dave Heineman is scheduled to take effect in October.
Lower courts have no precedent to support the law, which bases the new restrictions on the assertion that …

The right wing is circulating photos showing the hatred the left has had toward George W. Bush, as Shoq Value documents. It’s clear they’re playing the game called, “The other side does it, too.” As Shoq and his investigative partner Karoli are keeping an eye on this, it can’t be ignored that the veracity of these photos is not always easy to verify. For example:
And, as Shoq mentions, context and degree counts. …

Although Tea Party leaders have continually denounced violent rhetoric they’ve striven to create, it hasn’t done much to stop it. Out on the steps of the old Florida Capitol, signs at a Tax Day Tea Party event were filled with the usual: Poor spelling, violent content and phrases that were just plain weird. Among the more colorful:
“We vote with bullets,” “Fire Congress,” “9/11 was an Inside Job” and “Return to the Constitution.”
The Tea Party movement proclaims it isn’t racist, but there were less than half a dozen black people in the crowd, a head count …

Rush Limbaugh opined that Bill Clinton “set the stage for violence in this country” and “any future violence are your shoulders, Mr. Clinton.” (via Mediaite).
“The only point I tried to make was that we ought to have a lot of political dissent — a lot of political argument. Nobody is right all the time. But we also have to take responsibility for the possible consequences of what we say…”I think we all have to be careful, We ought to remember [that] after Oklahoma City we learned something about the difference in disagreement and demonization.”

Police stood between white supremacists and counter-demonstrators at Los Angles City Hall Saturday, as 50 members of a group calling itself the “National Socialist Movement” waved American flags and flags with swastikas.
The white supremacists, many of them wearing flack helmets and black military fatigue uniforms, shouted “Sieg Heil” before each of their speakers took the podium to taunt counter-protesters with racial, anti-Semitic and misogynistic epithets.
“We will meet you head on,” one of the white supremacists, whose name could not be made out over the fuzzy public address system, warned the crowd from behind several phalanxes of police …

Former President Bill Clinton says President Obama should not confine his Supreme Court pick to judges, much as he considered former New York Governor Mario Cuomo and former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell as nominees.
Clinton, who has not been a judge, said that at 63, told ABC’s “This Week” that he’s too old to be considered, much as he might enjoy serving on the Supreme Court. He said his wife, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, also might have been interested in past years, but not now.
Clinton says that at 63, he’s too old to be considered, …

Because we know that conservatives have a much closer relationship to God than we heathen-like liberals do, it’s entirely possible that Rush Limbaugh’s reading of God’s sign is accurate. After all, who loves God and country more than the patriotic right-wing? Thus, El Rushbo’s analysis that God spoke about health care via volcanic ash is entirely possible.
(h/t Think Progress)
You know, a couple of days after the health care bill had been signed into law Obama ran around all over the country saying, “Hey, you know, I’m looking around. The earth hadn’t opened up. There’s no Armageddon out …

A self-proclaimed pro-white racist showed up at a St. Louis tea party and was confronted by tea partier Adam Sharp, who told the man his shirt with a swastika doesn’t represent tea party values. All good so far, except that Sharp then took to his blog to claim the guy was a “Dem shill” infiltrating the event. (h/t Think Progress). Sharp even mocked up a photo (left) to allege the man’s connection to the left.
In a blog post promoting his video, Sharp titled the post, “Dem Shill Wears Nazi Gear to TEA Party, Gets Called Out.” There is …

Wasn’t it lack of oversight of our financial institutions, pushed by anti-regulation Republicans, that got us in financial trouble in the first place? Now, David Lightman of McClatchy looks at possible motives of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to go against bipartisanship and oppose efforts to reign in Wall Street.
McConnell says that he was reacting strongly to concerns from Kentucky bankers, as well as to a Democratic effort to shut Republicans out of the process.
However, critics say it was no coincidence that his blasts came after he met with Wall Street executives, and that his comments mirrored advice …

Arizona has become the third state, after Vermont and Alaska, to allow citizens to carry concealed guns without permits.
By eliminating the permit requirement, the Arizona legislation will allow people 21 or older to forego background checks and classes that are now required.
Supporters say the bill promotes constitutional rights and allows people to protect themselves from criminals, while critics worry it will lead to more shootings as people with less training have fewer restrictions on carrying weapons.
Some police officials are concerned the law will lead to more accidental gun discharges from people untrained in firearm safety, or …

The head of the Hutaree Christian Militia who was arrested with other members and accused of a plot to kill cops told members it was okay to kill “anyone who might stumble upon the operation.”
Details about the Hutaree’s planned training session — to be held during the second and fourth Saturdays in April — were revealed in a 17-page document prosecutors filed in response to a defense motion to free Hutaree leader David Stone (pictured) while he awaits trial.
It, along with several other government filings over the past week, help paint a fuller picture of the southern Michigan-based …
