Nevada GOP Senate Candidate: Need Health Care? Bring Your Doctor A Chicken

Nevada Republican Senate candidate Sue Lowden, who is challenging Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for his seat, says that it would be so nice if people who can’t afford to pay for health care could just do what they did in the “olden days” and “bring a chicken to the doctor.”
“Let’s change the system and talk about what the possibilities are. I’m telling you that this works. You know, before we all started having health care, in the olden days, our grandparents, they would bring a chicken to the doctor. They would say I’ll paint your house,” …

A while back, I proposed that the U.S. should trade Texas to Mexico for Cancun and golfer Lorena Ochoa. It seemed like a fair deal in theory, until Ochoa abruptly retired from golf, rendering the deal un-doable.
In the end, it was for the best. Texas is a pretty weird place, and all, but Texans do have a stunning tendency toward friendliness. The U.S. can make do with them.
Thus, the plan has changed. Now it is time for the U.S, to get rid of Arizona. With its recent decisions to racially profile the …

Contrary to conservative claims, “Cash for Clunkers” worked and helped jump-start the auto industry. Now it’s time for “Cash for Appliances.”
Starting Thursday, which happens to be Earth Day, consumers will be able to vie for rebates on Energy Star-rated appliances: $200 for refrigerators, $100 for clothes washers and $50 for air conditioners. The program applies only to those appliances.
Coupled with tax credits, buyback recycling programs and other incentives offered by stores, utilities and manufacturers, some savvy buyers could end up spending less than half the sticker price for appliances.
Appliance stores are bracing for a swarm …

If Michael Steele was unpopular with some members of his party before, it was likely nothing compared to how some will regard his most recent comments. Speaking to 200 DePaul University students, Steele said African-Americans aren’t motivated to vote Republican.
Why should an African-American vote Republican?
“You really don’t have a reason to, to be honest — we haven’t done a very good job of really giving you one. True? True.”
…
“For the last 40-plus years we had a ‘Southern Strategy’ that alienated many minority voters by focusing on the white male vote in the South. Well, guess …

The “big three,” as USA Today calls them, are:
Solicitor General Elena Kagan: As dean of the Harvard Law School she lamented the presence of military recruiters on campus, because she didn’t like their policies of discrimination against gays, but realized the school would lose funding if they were booted.
“This action causes me deep distress,” Kagan wrote that morning in October 2003. “I abhor the military’s discriminatory recruitment policy.” It is, she said, “a profound wrong — a moral injustice of the first order.”
Conservatives would make her opposition to the federal rule that recruiters be allowed on …

A special task force is looking at every transaction and every person involved in the effort to rebuild Iraq because of “hundreds of millions of dollars” lost to fraud, bribery and theft. (Pictured is reconstruction at the Askariya mosque in Samarra, Iraq)
Stuart Bowen Jr., special inspector general for Iraq reconstruction, is part of a multiagency task force using automated data mining to sift through the $50 billion spent on reconstruction by military and civilian agencies. SIGIR is working with federal law enforcement agencies and the U.S. Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, or FinCEN.
So far, with $28 billion …

In a brazen move to force President Obama to produce his already produced birth certificate, the state of Arizona has submitted new legislation that would require all presidential candidates to prove they were born in the United States. The bizarre measure will move onto the Arizona state Senate for consideration before it can become law.
This issue should have been put handily to rest when the Obama campaign released then-Senator Obama’s birth certificate during the 2008 presidential campaign. Since then, however, people like Leo Donofrio, Orly Taitz and Lou Dobbs have pushed onward demanding proof in …

GOP spending in Florida is the subject of a criminal investigation spearheaded by the U.S. Attorney’s office, the Internal Revenue Service, and the FBI. The agencies will review a paper trail that includes federal tax forms and state financial disclosure documents in an effort to resolve whether or not the Republican Party’s fiscal forays stayed within legal requirements. Since political parties maintain tax-exempt status, the range of legitimate purchases is tightly controlled.
The inquiry focuses on the party’s questionable trail of credit-card purchases stemming from a state-level investigation of Ray Sansom. The IRS …

Social networks are yet another venue for angry Americans to vent their hate. Tom has a post about vile Tweeters threatening Nancy Pelosi and others. And on Facebook there’s a group asking the Lord to do for Barack Obama what He did for Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson and “Patrick Swayzie”. (Does spell check not exist among tea partiers and other Bama Bashers?)
DEAR LORD, THIS YEAR YOU TOOK MY FAVORITE ACTOR, PATRICK SWAYZIE. YOU TOOK MY FAVORITE ACTRESS, FARAH FAWCETT. YOU TOOK MY FAVORITE SINGER, MICHAEL JACKSON. I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW, MY FAVORITE PRESIDENT IS BARACK OBAMA. …

A specific Twitter user was brought to my attention today by a very offended person of color. You see, this user is a self-proclaimed racist, and their comments left nothing to speculation.
After a little digging, and some assistance from other Twitterers, this apparent threat against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi emerged:
“I now have all but two of the #Democrats #Congress people home addresses! I even have Pelosi’s! It’s almost show time! #tcot #p2 #hcr #ocra”
In his/her Twitter profile the person claims to be a Christian and “proud #TCOT member.” The acronym stands for “Top Conservatives …
