“Do as I say, not as I do,” is usually good advice. Bristol Palin will be dispensing that advice in speeches priced between $15,000 and $30,000.
Bristol Palin, 19, is listed on the [Single Source Speakers] website as available for conferences, fundraisers, special events and holidays, as well as women’s, youth, abstinence and “pro-life” programs.
…
Bristol Palin was thrust into the spotlight as a pregnant teen during her mother’s unsuccessful campaign for vice president in 2008. She had son Tripp that year and has since spoken about abstinence and the challenges of life as a young single mother.…

An Alabama teacher used assassinating President Obama as a way to teach his students angles. The Secret Service spoke with the math instructor but didn’t pursue anything beyond that.
The teacher was apparently teaching his geometry students about parallel lines and angles, officials said. He used the example of where to stand and aim if shooting Obama.
“He was talking about angles and said, ‘If you’re in this building, you would need to take this angle to shoot the president,’ ” said Joseph Brown, a senior in the geometry class.
Superintendent Phil Hammonds says there are no plans to fire …

Mark Souder, who was elected to Congress during the Republican rout of 1994, will resign today because of an affair he had with a female aide.
“I sinned against God, my wife and my family by having a mutual relationship with a part-time member of my staff,” Souder said in a statement Tuesday. “I am so shamed to have hurt those I love.”
Souder said resigning was “the best decision for my family, the people of northeast Indiana and our country.”
“In the poisonous environment of Washington, D.C., any personal failing is seized upon, often twisted, for political gain,” Souder …

Rima Fakih is a 24-year-old Arab-American from Lebanon, whose ascension to Miss Michigan and now Miss USA has some right-wingers going nuts.
Debbie Schlussel, a conservative blogger, charged that Fakih was a radical Muslim because she shares her family name with some officials in Hezbollah , the militant Lebanese Shiite Muslim group.
The Jewish Internet Defense Force, a pro-Israeli website, proclaimed it “a dark day for America.”
Daniel Pipes, an outspoken neoconservative author and former adviser to Rudy Giuliani’s presidential campaign, wondered about “this surprising frequency of Muslims winning beauty pageants” — he listed five examples in three countries …

When high school senior Augustine Ortiz went to English class May 6, he didn’t realize he would become the object of the lesson.
His teacher – as yet unnamed by the San Antonio Independent School District – allegedly instructed Ortiz to sit in the front row as she began a discussion of immigration and SB 1070 recently signed into law in Arizona. Ortiz, clad in a Mexican soccer team jersey, complied with the request from one of his favorite teachers. What followed was shocking.
The teacher singled out Ortiz several times while making specific slurs against …

There was a nice piece on Crooks and Liars the other day by David Neiwert that got me thinking on the terms we Democrats, liberals and progressives tend to use and how to improve them. It was on how the right is howling about “blaming Bush for everything” and why it was necessary to keep bringing Dubya up:

Bush, the man now widely viewed by conservatives as The Man Who Betrayed Conservative Values. He had lots and lots of help.

Should We Blame Politics On Miss Oklahoma’s Failure To Grab The Crown?

I’m not sure what relevance it is whether Miss Oklahoma, Morgan Elizabeth Woolard, supports Arizona’s new immigration law. Woolard finished first-runner-up to Rima Fakih of Michigan in the Miss USA Pageant, and conspiracy theorists are opining that her support of the strict immigration law hurt her chances for the top prize. Oscar Nunez of The Office asked Woolard her position on racial profiling and Arizona’s SB1070. Woolard’s answer:
“I’m a huge believer in states’ rights. I think that’s what’s so wonderful about America,” Woolard said. “So I think it’s perfectly fine for Arizona to create that law.”
Woolard went on …

Sarah Palin’s latest and greatest Facebook blog posts are usually announced on Twitter via the @SarahPalinUSA account. The comedic value of her “Tweets” hasn’t gone unnoticed, and yesterday’s offering was no exception. Even though the Tweet has since been corrected (and the original deleted), I was able to grab a screen capture when it was brought to my attention.
Regardless of whether it’s Mrs. Palin or one of possibly numerous ghostwriters Tweeting on her behalf, the ongoing string of grammatical and spelling errors is amusing coming from a person of her position: Quitter.…

The Texas school board is trying this week to jam its right-wing views into the classroom. Arch conservative board member Don McLeroy is urging changes which, if Friday’s vote goes his way, will drastically change the kind of information conveyed to students.
The new amendment (.pdf), which is expected to get a vote on Thursday, would require high school history students to “discuss alternatives regarding long term entitlements such as Social Security and Medicare, given the decreasing worker to retiree ratio” and also “evaluate efforts by global organizations to undermine U. S. sovereignty.”
McLeroy was voted off the board as …
