Hispanic Republicans: GOP Should Tread Cautiously On Immigration

Lincoln-and-Mario-Diaz-Balart

Four Republican congressmen warn that their party needs to “tread cautiously on immigration so as not to reverse the gains the party has begun to make with Hispanic voters on other issues.”
(via Think Progress)

“Part of the reason we have done so poorly with Hispanics was that there are a number of people who really went out of their way not to solve these issues but to stir them up,” Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla. pictured, right) said. “Fortunately it’s just a couple people. … But I think a majority of the Conference understands that not only do we …

Palin Claims Obama Would Ban Guns And Ammunition If He Could

300h

Speaking to the NRA, Sarah Palin claimed that the only reason President Obama isn’t banning guns is because of political backlash.

“Don’t doubt for a minute that, if they thought they could get away with it, they would ban guns and ban ammunition and gut the Second Amendment,” said Palin, a lifelong NRA member who once had a baby shower at a local gun range in Alaska. “It’s the job of all of us at the NRA and its allies to stop them in their tracks.”

“You don’t want to mess with moms who are rising up,” Palin said …

Gingrich: “The Secular Socialist Machine Represents As Great A Threat To America As Nazi Germany”

2006_10_02_gingrich

Newt Gingrich’s new book takes vicious aim at the Obama administration, opining, “The secular socialist machine represents as great a threat to America as Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union once did.” Chris Wallace challenged this hyperbole on Fox News Sunday:

Wallace: You also write this on the screen: “The secular socialist machine represents as great a threat to America as Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union once did.” Mr. Speaker, respectfully, isn’t that wildly over the top?

Gingrich: No, not if by America you mean….Just listen to President Obama’s language. He gets to decide who earns …

Gingrich: No Hearings Needed, Just Withdraw Kagan’s Nomination; She’s Anti-Military

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is calling on President Obama to withdraw the nomination of Elena Kagan for the Supreme Court, claiming she’s anti-military. On Fox News Sunday, Gingrich said:

“I think the president should withdraw it. You don’t need a lot of hearings. The very fact that she led the effort which was repudiated unanimously by the Supreme Court to block the American military from Harvard Law school — we’re in two wars, and I see no reason why you would appoint an anti-military Supreme Court justice or why the Senate would confirm an anti-military Supreme Court …

GOP’s Sessions Vows To Make Kagan Hearings “Big Deal”

jeff-sessions_7

Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions, the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said on This Week that confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan will be a “big deal.”

“I think we’d like to know, in a real honest sense, whether her philosophy of law is so broad in her interpretation of the Constitution that you are not faithful to the Constitution and laws,” Sessions told host Jake Tapper. “In other words, a judge under their oath says you serve under the Constitution, not above it. So we want to know whether she faithfully will follow it even if …

Leave Out The Lion And The Wardrobe

Sarah-Palin-waving

by Gabe Berman

Gabe is a freelance writer for the Miami Herald and author of Live Like a Fruit Fly

On SarahPAC.com, the ex-governor of Alaska uses a quote from a respected and beloved Christian writer to give credence to her agenda.

“C. S. Lewis once wrote: ‘We all want progress, but if you are on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road.’ We need to get back on the right road. In order to progress, we must return to our founding principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, and strong national defense.”…

Pundits Blow Smoke; Democrats Panic!

oh-no

By James Frye

As we head into summer, the pundit class is sounding all sorts of alarms about how the Democrats are DOOMED this year. I’d list a few examples but doing a search using “Democrats 2010″ will bring up plenty. It’s all about how “anti-incumbent” voters are supposed to be energized, and the Democrats are not as revved to go vote this year as they were in 2008. Some Democrats are buying into this and doing their panic thing as well.

OK, reality check time.

First of all, let’s take a quick glance at the calendar. Does it say …

Radical Tea Partiers Urge Repeal Of 17th Amendment

stivers

The Seventeenth Amendment calls for the direct election of senators, rather than having the states appoint them. Radical states-rights tea partiers want to take that right away from the people and have state governments appoint its national senators. That is quite bizarre, given that these are people who claim the want less government and more individual freedom. And some Republican candidates who tried to suck up to tea partiers by signaling that they favor the “Repeal The 17th” movement, are now walking back those views.

Supporters of the plan say that ending the public vote for Senators would give …

Kevin Costner: Actor, Musician, And Ocean Therapist

large_Kevin_Costner_Modern_West.JPG

By The River Wanders

When Kevin Costner isn’t busy making movies or fronting his band Modern West, he’s spending $26 million of his own money developing technology designed to save the ocean from oil pollution. No joke.

This isn’t a venture he started last month; Costner has been working on a way to clean up oil spills for over 15 years.  Appalled by the Exxon Valdez disaster, he and his brother Dan invested in a company – Ocean Therapy Solutions – which has created a patented technology to clean up oil slicks. Costner brought a small prototype of the …

There Is No Such Thing As Radical Islam

Yes, I said it, and it’s true. What the West, and some Muslim-bashers, like to refer to as “Radical Islam” isn’t Islam at all, any more than killing an abortion doctor in the name of Jesus represents anything to do with Christianity. Radical Islam isn’t Islam, just as “soft rock” isn’t rock, your friends on Facebook aren’t actually friends, and near-beer isn’t anywhere near beer.

Attorney General Eric Holder was correct not to take the bait from Texas conservative Congressman Lamar Smith, who was foaming at the mouth to get Holder to put those two words together. Holder’s refusal to …

Palin Claims To Be Pioneering Woman; Pioneering Women Disagree

patschroeder-thumb

Sarah Palin fashions herself a feminist, but interestingly, while campaigning on behalf of conservative female candidates, her target map of candidates she’d like to see removed from office disproportionately focuses on women. And she has donated money in races where Democratic women are running.

Palin eagerly claims the feminist mantle—an unusual assertion for a candidate from her wing of the GOP—and spoke Friday of “a new conservative feminist movement” with an “emerging conservative feminist identity,” before a Washington audience.

“I kinda feel a connection to that tough, gun totin’ pioneer feminism,” she told the enthusiastic crowd of anti-abortion activists …
