Seattle Police Officer Kicks Innocent Man In The Head Vowing to “Kick The F***ing Mexican Piss Out Of You, Homey”

It’s a good thing we don’t have to worry about expanded police powers in America.  In Seattle, a response to a 911 call by a man who said we was attacked by four Latino men with a machete resulted in an innocent man being beaten.
(h/t Think Progress)

One of [the] officers who responded to the call detained a Latino male suspect, threatened to “beat the [expletive] Mexican piss out” of him, and kicked him in the head. The suspect was later released after police confirmed that he had nothing to do with the alleged robbery.

The officer referenced …

Evangelicals To Call For Pathway To Citizenship For Illegal Immigrants

138854313_e05bdb5aca

The National Evangelical Association is taking out a full page ad in Roll Call using the Bible to argue for a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.

“Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the families of his sons turned to Egypt in search of food,” it says. “Joseph, Naomi, Ruth, Daniel and his friends, Ezekiel, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther all lived in foreign lands. In the New Testament, Joseph and Mary fled with Jesus to escape Herod’s anger and became refugees in Egypt.”

Forty evangelical denominations reached a consensus in 2009 when it produced a document laying out their position.

The Bible …

Orrin Hatch In Political Trouble? More Anti-Incumbent Fever

225px-Art_chaffetz_congress

The Utah senator may be in for a primary challenge.  Jason Chaffetz is doing nothing to quell rumors that he is preparing to mount an effort to oust Hatch from the Republican nomination.

Said Chaffetz: “It’s a possibility, I’m not taking anything off the table. This anti-incumbent sentiment is a tsunami that isn’t going away… I respect everything Senator Hatch has done, but the question is whether 36 years in the US senate might be enough. Orrin will be 78 in 2012.”…

Kagan Urged Clinton To Ban Late-Term Abortions In 1997

Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan, who was a White House adviser in 1997, urged then-President Bill Clinton to ban late-term abortions.

Documents reviewed Monday by The Associated Press show Kagan encouraging Clinton to support a bill that would have banned all abortions of viable fetuses except when the physical health of the mother was at risk. The documents from Clinton’s presidential library are among the first to surface in which Kagan weighs in on the thorny issue of abortion.

The abortion proposal was a compromise by Democratic Sen. Tom Daschle. Clinton supported it, but the proposal failed and Clinton …

Sarah Palin Promotes Another Obama Falsehood

palin5.10

Sarah Palin Tweeted that President Obama wants a pay decrease for soldiers. This is blatantly untrue.
(h/t Bob Cesca)

FACT: The Pentagon proposed a 1.4 percent pay increase, while Congress proposed a 1.9 percent increase.

The issue is the size of the increase, and the battle is between the Pentagon and Congress, not the president, who has always spoken in favor of increasing military salaries. Nowhere does Congress, the Pentagon, and – most of all – Obama, call for decreasing pay for the military.…

Tea Party Puts Out “America’s Most Wanted” Playing Cards

playingcards231

Much like the playing cards that were put out to illustrate which members of Saddam Hussein’s government were to be hunted down and killed, the Shenendoah Valley Tea Party has put out a similar deck with politicians it wants gone. And they claim to have been inspired by the Iraqi deck (h/t Think Progress). Nothing like a little violent imagery to go with your tea bags. They obviously know how this will be interpreted, because they go out of their way to make the point that they are not promoting violence.

On its website, the group encourages buyers …

GOP Uses Thurgood Marshall’s Opposition To Slavery To Attack Elena Kagan

Thurgood-Marshall-Biography

If this is the best Republicans can do after they’ve had months to prepare their talking points against President Obama’s likely nominee, it’s pathetic. The late Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshal, for whom Elena Kagan clerked, said in a 1987 speech that the Constitution was “defective” as originally written. Kagan paid tribute to Marshall in a law review article in 1993, shortly after Marshall’s death.

Marshall cited in particular the definition in the original Constitution to slaves as representing three-fifths of “free Persons” when counting the nation’s population. That reference was rendered moot with the ratification, following the Civil War, …

American Family Association Demands To Know If Elena Kagan Is Gay; Says That Would Disqualify Her

0

The far-right American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer is up in arms about whether or not Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan is gay, and wants her to be asked directly, “Are you a lesbian?” (h/t Think Progress).  If the answer is, “yes” the AFA believes she is unfit to serve.

Elena Kagan, if nominated today, will be forced to face the press. She cannot be kept closeted not only from the public but from the inquiring minds of the media. They have a solemn responsibility to do one thing: ask her directly and openly and in front of the …

Maine Republicans Endorse Teabaggerism

2009-03-18-tea_bag_dems

by William K. Wolfrum

Stuck with two Senators – Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe – that fall far short of the radical philosophies of many in the assorted Tea Parties, Maine Republicans stood tall and endorsed TeaBaggerism as its platform at the Maine Republican convention, adopting a tea party document as its platform.  By doing so, Maine has now veered right of the GOP and have grabbed on to what former Maine GOP attorney Dan Billings calls “wack job pablum” and “nutcase stuff.”

From Maine Politics:

The document calls for the elimination of the Department of Education and the
