Gawker: The “Idiots” Responsible For the Oil Leak

oynes

At Gawker, they have the rogues gallery or, as they call them, “idiots” responsible for the fact that oil is still gushing a month after the fact. Just a sample:

Chris Oynes, associate director of Offshore Energy and Minerals Management: Chris Oynes, a stellar exemplar of civil service, once cost taxpayers $10 billion dollars by forgetting to force oil companies to pay royalties on the oil they found in the Gulf of Mexico. And then, because of our awesome meritocratic government, he was put in charge of all offshore drilling!

Former Vice President Dick Cheney: What a surprise, …

The FBI is reporting that there has been a surge in death threats to lawmakers, based on a 2009 report provided to POLITICO.

Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich., pictured, center) and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis., pictured, right) were threatened with assassination. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Rep. Ciro Rodriguez (D-Texas) were threatened with bodily harm. Someone told Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) that her throat would be cut. Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) was told someone would physically “f—- her up” if she held a town hall meeting in her district, according to the FBI files.

There have been many more threats, …

Jay Leno Goes After Tea Partiers: BP Oil Spill Example Of What Would Happen Under Their Rule

Picture-251-e1274791242752

Who knew Jay Leno had a strong political view on the Tea Partiers? Speaking with David Gregory, Leno wanted to know why the TPers are showing up now, but were silent when the Bush administration rode roughshod over our civil rights.
(via Mediaite)

Gregory thinks it’s simply because they’re more organized. But Leno persisted: “BP is the perfect example. BP seems to have done this on their own, they don’t pay attention, they essentially make their own rules, they pay off everybody…that’s what the Tea Party wants. That’s unregulated and look what happened.”

Hackers Alter Electronic Road Sign To Say “No Latinos No Tacos”

052510+no+latinos+no+tacos+sign

On the Palmetto Expressway in Northwest Miami-Dade, drivers were met with the flashing words “NO LATINOS NO TACOS.”  The signs are password-protected, but that doesn’t stop hackers, as there have been a number of such alterations, although not usually so racist.

Reaction to the sign, posted on the “Today in South Florida” Facebook page was mixed.

“Wow someone has a lot of time on their hands to think up of how they can belittle and disrespect a group of people who help keep this country going,” said Luly Cueto-Belot.

“Greatest thing I ever saw…let’s take this country back …

Teacher On Leave After Letting Students Don Klan Outfits

Klan_CBS-AP_image

A teacher in Lumpkin County, Georgia, had her students wear Ku Klux Klan costumes while teaching about racism in the United States.

The actions of Catherine Ariemma were met with stern disapproval by superintendent Dewey Moye Monday afternoon.

“We cannot allow that type of judgement and will not sanction it even though they were studying a part of history,” he said.

Ariemma, herself, said she made a mistake.

“Unfortunately, I made a bad call,” she said. “It would have saved some hurt and some students would not have felt threatened if I had made a …

BP Vs. EPA: British Petroleum Won’t Meet EPA Mandate

0524-oil-dispersants-BP-CEO_full_380

BP has not met the mandate from the Environmental Protection Agency that it use a less toxic dispersant, saying it can’t find one; but another manufacturer says it can fill the bill, and the EPA says it’s “not satisfied” and is launching an investigation. BP CEO Tony Hayward is seen watching workers clean up a beach in Ft. Fourchon, LA.

Early Tuesday, the White House’s energy adviser backed up [BP's] assertion about dispersants’ availability. “There are not as many being manufactured as people thought in the quantities” needed, said Carol Browner, in a round of television appearances on morning news …

Democrats Need To Make The GOP Own Their Tea Party

sam_adams_tea_party_customizable_event_poster-p228220293005879199qzz0_400

by James Frye

I almost feel sorry for the Republicans.  OK, not really; but I get what they wanted to do when they created and egged on their Tea Party.  After Obama’s election the right was getting a taste of what they tried to sell after Bush was re-elected in 2004, which was basically: We Democrats won the election and the argument and you righties can sit down and shut up now.   The GOPers wanted to put a public face on the idea that they may be out of power now but they’re still around.  So they set about to …

Obama Supports “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” Compromise Between Pentagon And Congress

President Obama is advocating an agreement between lawmakers and the Pentagon that begins the process of getting rid of the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” military policy.

Under the compromise, finalized in a series of meetings Monday at the White House and on Capitol Hill, lawmakers will vote in the next several days on a repeal of the Clinton-era policy. If it passes, that action would not go into effect until the Pentagon completes a study about its impact on the troops.

Gay rights advocates call this a “dramatic breakthrough.”

In a statement, Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese said the …

Christian Newswire: American Idol Ratings Decline Caused By Ellen DeGeneres’s Lesbianism

1274711817

According to Gary McCullough of the Christian Newswire, the ratings drop at “American Idol” is because of the addition of Ellen DeGeneres, and that network television is on “a pro-homosexual bender.” (h/t RightWingWatch)  McCullough refers to an earlier column where he wrote:

“I am confident that the producers of American Idol will be shocked when their market share has cratered, and will in all honesty find a dozen other reasons for the drop in ratings. After all, what successful television producer could have a clue what wholesomeness is as long as they see promoting homosexuality as a …

Arizona Senate Candidate J.D. Hayworth: US Never Declared War On Germany

John McCain’s Republican challenger for the US Senate from Arizona, former Congressman J.D. Hayworth, was asked at a GOP event in Phoenix about America not declaring war in modern-day conflicts.

“But I would also point out, that if we want to be sticklers, the war that Dwight Eisenhower led in Europe against the Third Reich was never declared by the United States Congress,” said Hayworth. “Recall, the Congress passed a war resolution against Japan. Germany declared war on us two days later. We never formally declared war on Hitler’s Germany, and yet we fought the war.”

Hayworth’s questioner pressed that …
