ACLU Issues Travel Warnings To Arizona

The nation’s top civil liberties organization has issued a travel alert for Arizona because of its belief that its immigration law is racist and will lead to profiling and warrantless arrests.
American Civil Liberties Union affiliates in Arizona, New Mexico and 26 other states put out the warnings in advance of the Fourth of July weekend. The Arizona chapter has received reports that law enforcement officers are already targeting some people even though the law doesn’t take effect until July 29, its executive director said.
The ACLU wants people to know their rights in case they’re stopped by authorities. Five …

Parents fearful of sexual ambiguity in their unborn children may soon be in luck. A new drug being tested by Dr. Maria New could be administered to newborns to prevent a rare adrenal gland disorder. Of course a lifetime regimen of drugs would be required thereafter, the side effects of which may not be known for decades. (h/t Raw Story)
Dr. New offers pregnant women dexamethasone, a risky steroid aimed at female fetuses that may have this disorder. Many exposed to dexamethasone through this off-label use are not being enrolled in controlled clinical trials.
And yes, …

Jed Lewison created a highlight reel of Nevada’s Senate candidate Sharron Angle when she did an interview with a challenging host, Jon Ralson of KVBC’s “Face to Face.”
1. Angle called for the privatization of Social Security and Medicare.
2. Angle said she opposed extending jobless benefits because they’ve “spoiled our citizenry” and kept people out of the workforce.
3. Angle mistakenly endorsed Harry Reid’s job’s bill, having clearly never heard of it before.
4. Angle said “people are afraid of their government” and that “of course” they “need to” arm themselves to protect liberties from government tyranny.
5. Angle …

Sometimes a mouth opens and words come out, and there is nothing else behind it. Such is often the case with Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann. Her latest foray into Obama-bashing is to claim that the president is forcing the United States to be part of a global economy. After, all, shouldn’t all money stop at the water’s edge? (h/t AMERICAblog). In response to Obama attending the G-20 summit to promote economic cooperation among countries, Bachmann says the real intent is to “bind the United States into a global economy.”
If you look at the G20, what they’re trying to …

A teacher at the Big Bear Middle School in Big Bear, CA, allegedly asked a young student wearing a Mexican shirt, “What are you doing in my country?“
12 year old Coral Aviles, understandably confused and a little scared, asked “Why?”
The teacher, who was unnamed…then responded, ““Because people like you make me pay higher taxes and make my insurance rate go up.” [Aviles], who wore the shirt in support of Mexico for their group stage game against South Africa, ran out of the room crying.
The school is considering disciplinary action, and the girl’s family has enlisted …

Larry King set the standard for interviewing. Never out to play “gotcha,” King was able to attract anyone and everyone to his microphone, which is why both his former radio show and his television show are historical records of our times. Earlier in my career, as a young, relatively unknown broadcaster, Larry was very good to me, offering a helping hand when it was needed. Little did I know then that one day I would be on opposite what turned out to be a very tough competitor. You don’t spend 25 years in that chair by accident. To echo what …

Just like their brethren in the Senate, House Republicans refused to extend unemployment benefits.
Democrats brought up the measure under special rules that require a two-thirds majority for passage. But they failed to win sufficient support from Republicans, who expressed concern about the measure’s $33 billion cost to the federal treasury.
The bill would help as many as 1.7 million people whose unemployment insurance benefits have run out. It would extend an emergency unemployment compensation program through November 30.
Democrats said the spending was justified to help the unemployed pay their bills and to boost the economy.
Guess what happens …

“Conservative Christian and a pretty fair shot,” Pamela Gorman is an Arizona state senator looking to replace Rep. John Shadegg. Gorman is in a crowded field of Republicans, and so she probably feels she needs to do something to distinguish herself.
The ad copy says how “our best shot” at changing Congress with a candidate of this “caliber” who is “always right on target.” Clever, no?
