image6618281_370x278

President Obama and Lady Gaga are in a heated battle to see who can be the first to garner 10 million Facebook fans.  As of 7:15 PM ET Friday night, Lady Gaga has 9,163,504, edging out the president, who has with 9,122,783.

It should be noted that Mr. Obama’s page is run by the group Organizing for America, which is part of the Democratic National Committee.

Actor Vin Diesel comes in third place among living individuals with 9,058,684 fans. But all three trail top vote getter Michael Jackson (over 13 million fans), who passed away a year ago today.

Weigel Resigns From WaPo, Once Again Proving “It’s OK If You’re A Republican”

By Sinfonian

The double standard by which America’s conservative-dominated mainstream media operate has claimed another victim. Washington Post reporter and blogger Dave Weigel resigned today under considerable fire for off-the-record comments he made on Monday in emails to a listserv for liberal journalists.

FishbowlDC reported yesterday afternoon on Weigel’s emails to JournoList, including the statement that apparently caused the greatest furor: “This would be a vastly better world to live in if Matt Drudge decided to handle his emotional problems more responsibly, and set himself on fire.”  Shortly after the story broke — indeed, a few minutes before …

J.D. Hayworth Apologizes For Shilling For Free Government Money

J.D. Hayworth says he’s sorry that he made an infomercial for a company that claims to tell you how to get free government money, saying he didn’t check it out.

“I should not have made the ad. It was a mistake. I believed, as did former Congressman J.C.Watts, this to be a reputable firm, but I did not completely check out the organization,” Hayworth said in a statement released late Thursday. He also added: “I hope voters will look past a video presentation made three years ago and instead look at the issues confronting us in 2010.”

This is a …

Palin Jumps on the Sowell “Obama As Hitler” Bandwagon

Palin3

Thomas Sowell wrote a despicable column claiming that President Obama is dismantling democracy, “much like Hitler did.” Texas GOP Congressman Louis Gohmert read it on the House floor and called it “brilliant.” Sadly, Sarah Palin agrees with the Hitler analogy. Taking to Twitter, Palin first makes a gratuitous attack against the “lamestream media” and than urges her followers to take the Sowell column to heart. (h/t Think Progress)

Conservatives were right to call out liberals when they compared President George W. Bush to Adolph Hitler. They should be held to the same standard when one of their own makes …

Oliver Stone’s Unique Take On Our Wars

oliver_0

Speaking with John King about the musical chairs being played with our generals, movie director Oliver Stone points out that the occupants of the countries where we’re fighting don’t want us there, the goal is wrong and, as for replacing McChrystal with Petraeus, “you don’t promote down.”

Stone is promoting his movie “South of the Border” and says Venezuelan elections are cleaner than those in Florida.…

Republicans Kill Bill That Would Have Helped Jobless

Senate Republicans killed a bill that would have extended benefits for those out of work for more than six months.  The vote was 57-41, meaning a filibuster could not be avoided.

The rejected bill would also have provided $16 billion in new aid to states, preserving the jobs of thousands of state and local government workers and providing what White House officials called an insurance policy against a double-dip recession. It also included dozens of tax breaks sought by business lobbyists, and tax increases on domestically produced oil and on investment fund managers.

Two hundred thousand Americans a week will …

Ethics Probe Finds Palin Defense Fund Illegal

20100624__USPalinEthicsComplaint1_GALLERY

Sarah Palin will return money she collected from a defense fund she set up to fight ethics charges.

An investigator for the Alaska Personnel Board says a legal defense fund set up for Sarah Palin when she was governor was illegal.

Investigator Timothy Petumenos said Thursday the Alaska Fund Trust inappropriately used the word “official” on its website, wrongly implying Palin’s endorsement as governor.

The probe did find that Palin acted in good faith when setting up the fund, and did so on the advice of attorneys.…

U.S. Authorities May Have Deported An American Citizen

A 19-year-old man deported last week from Texas may be an American citizen.

Luis Alberto Delgado said he and his older brother were stopped last Thursday by a Jim Wells County Sheriff captain, who called the U.S. Border Patrol.

Despite carrying a birth certificate showing he was born at Houston’s Ben Taub Hospital, a state of Texas ID card and a Social Security card, Delgado said he was taken into Border Patrol custody, questioned for eight hours and pressured into signing paperwork that cleared the way for his removal to Mexico.

Officials were suspicious because Delgado spoke broken English.  …

Will The Russian President Embrace American Fast Food?

100624_obama_med22_ap_392_regular

President Obama and Russian President Dmitri Medvedev hopped over to Ray’s Hell Burger in Arlington, VA, where they shared some fries.

Obama “went traditional” in his order, getting a cheddar-cheeseburger with onions, lettuce, tomato and bread-and-butter pickles, while Medvedev “went spicy,” with a cheddar-cheeseburger with onions, jalapenos and mushrooms, the pool says. Obama drank iced tea, and Medvedev had a Coke.

Medvedev praised the taste, if not the nutrition.

In his opening statement, Medvedev — speaking with an interpreter — lauds the cheeseburger lunch he and Obama shared: “It’s not quite healthy, but it’s very tasty.”…
