Rupert Murdoch And Michael Bloomberg Both Push For Immigration Reform

On Fox and Friends, Fox owner Rupert Murdoch and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg both advocated for recognizing how important immigrants are to our economy.

DOOCY: The country is so gridlocked around this. What can business do that Washington, DC has not been effective in doing so far?

MURDOCH: Well you just gotta keep the pressure on the congressmen. You gotta do it on the press and on the television. It’s a political thing. They gotta fess up to it. ... Read more » You gotta recognize that there are millions of bright and intelligent people around the world — whether …

U.S. Hikers Captured By Iran Were Actually Seized In Iraq

Hikersmap_mthumb

An investigation by The Nation magazine reveals that three American hikers arrested by Iran last July were taken from Iraq, not Iran. (Click on map for more)

Shane Bauer, Josh Fattal and Sarah Shourd—have been at the center of a high-stakes diplomatic struggle between Tehran and Washington. Iranian authorities have repeatedly accused the three of entering Iran to conduct espionage.

Now a five-month investigation by The Nation and the Investigative Fund at The Nation Institute has located two witnesses to the arrest who claim that Bauer, Fattal and Shourd were on Iraqi territory when they were arrested—not in Iran, …

Another Anti-Gay Crusader Found To Be Gay

tombrock39-300x197

Rev. Tom Brock, a Lutheran pastor in Minneapolis who has been critical of allowing gays into the clergy, is on leave after attending a support group for men with same-sex addiction.

A fixture on local cable access shows, Brock regularly broadcasts conservative views on homosexuality and criticizes the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for liberalizing its gay clergy policy. Lavender Magazine published a story last week about Brock’s quiet attendance of the Faith in Action meetings, written by a reporter who falsely posed as a member of the group.

“The fact that he said one thing publicly, and privately …

The Commander Bush 43 Fired For Insubordination: William “Fox” Fallon

fallon_resigns_0311

For those who want to portray President Obama as “weak” because he had a general bad-mouth him, it is useful to remember William “Fox Fallon, who was fired by George W. Bush in similar circumstances.

…[what] ended his 41-year military career was a fawning profile in…Esquire magazine — an article that pitted him against President Bush, and one with whose author Fallon had cooperated. “He jumped,” one Navy officer said, “on a hand grenade that he threw.”

Fallon had held his command, which included Iraq and Afghanistan, for [a] year. A Navy pilot, he liked to “push the envelope” both …

Are We Better Off With A Fat President?

William_Howard_Taft_telephones_1908

The Cato Institute’s Gene Healy thinks so. (Pictured is William Howard Taft, infamous for having been stuck in the White House bathtub.)

After all, some of our best have been big fellows, and lately the trim and ambitious types haven’t served us so well.

“Yon Cassius has a lean and hungry look; he thinks too much. Such men are dangerous,” Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar comments to Marc Antony. “Let me have men about me that are fat … such as sleep o’ nights.”

There’s valuable insight there. Keeping fit is fine, but it’s hard to trust someone who has spent …

Congressman Louie Gohmert On Thomas Sowell’s “Obama As Hitler” Article: “Brilliant”

Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert is enthralled with conservative writer Thomas Sowell, whom he called “brilliant” as a result of Sowell’s piece comparing President Obama to Hitler. (via Think Progress)

There’s a brilliant man named Thomas Sowell. And, um, I didn’t vote for Barack Obama in 2008, but I sure would have voted for Thomas Sowell. This man, well, his article says quite a lot. His editorial, um, says here — and it’s just been posted this week — but it says, “When Adolph Hitler was building up the Nazi movement in the 1920’s” — and I’m quoting from …

Mike And Christine

By William K. Wolfrum

“I am a transsexual sportswriter. It has taken more than 40 years, a million tears and hundreds of hours of soul-wrenching therapy for me to work up the courage to type those words. … When you reach the point when one gender causes heartache and unbearable discomfort, and the other brings more joy and fulfillment than you ever imagined possible, it shouldn’t take two tons of bricks to fall in order to know what to do.”

– Christine Daniels, April 26, 2007.

Less than a year ago, I was waiting for a flight at an …

Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) Only Lawmaker To Object To Obama Firing McChrystal

image5350754x

Republican Arizona Congressman Trent Franks is the only lawmaker on record as objecting to President Obama letting General Stanley McChrystal go and replacing him with General David Petraeus. Franks says a private dressing down should have been enough and, anyway, McChrystal’s criticisms were valid:

“Moreover, General McChrystal had to reconcile the nearly irreconcilable political posturing of this Administration, to the extent that it often undermined General McChrystal’s efforts on the ground in Afghanistan. First, the Administration was unable to produce a plan for the Afghanistan war for the better part of a year, and when it finally decided upon its …

Next to an op-ed column by Frank Gaffney of the Center for Security Policy, and a Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense in the Reagan administration, in the ,  is a phonied-up photo of Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan in a turban.  Besides the usual conservative whine that Kagan is somehow anti-military is the accusation that she is sympathetic to Sharia law. (h/t Think Progress)

She personally officiated in 2003 over the establishment of an Islamic Finance Project at the law school. The project’s purpose is to promote what is better known as Shariah-compliant finance (SCF) by enlisting in its …

McChrystal Out, Petraeus In As U.S. Commander In Afghanistan

062310_PetraeusMcChrystal_monster_397x224

President Obama has accepted the resignation of General Stanley McChrystal (pictured right) as commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, and has nominated David Petraeus (left), head of U.S. Central Command, and former commanding general in Iraq.

“This is a change in personnel, but it is not a change in policy,” Obama said in the Rose Garden, Petraeus by his side and McChrystal nowhere to be seen.

The president praised McChrystal, saying he always showed “great courtesy” and carried out his orders “faithfully,” and that they were on the same page in terms of war strategy. He said the decision to …
