Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) Concedes

Murkowski

Tea Party favorite Joe Miller, who received Sarah Palin’s endorsement, will be the Republican nominee for Senate from Alaska.

The AP reports:

Murkowski made the concession speech Tuesday night, a full week after the primary.

Murkowski trailed Miller, a Fairbanks attorney, by 1,668 votes after last week’s primary. Election officials began counting absentee and outstanding ballots Tuesday. Murkowski made slight gains, but was never able to get Miller’s lead below 1,200 votes.…

Is Combat Really Over In Iraq?

01military2_337-span-articleInline

The AP asserts that, in spite of the declaration of combat operations being over,  combat certainly lies ahead. Obama did say, “Of course, violence will not end with our combat mission,” but he didn’t outline where real dangers lie.

Peril remains for the tens of thousands of U.S. troops still in Iraq, who are likely if not certain to engage violent foes. Counterterrorism is chief among their continuing missions, pitting them against a lethal enemy. Several thousand special operations forces, including Army Green Berets and Navy SEALs, will continue to hunt and attempt to kill al-Qaida and other terrorist …

Palin Criticizes Obama On Iraq Even Before Speech

images7

Sarah Palin took to her Facebook page to attack President Obama on the day of his address to the nation about the end of combat operations in Iraq; only, she chose to do it before the actual speech was given or released.

• As Americans tune in to watch President Obama, it is important to remember the facts. He opposed the surge. He predicted it would fail. He said it would make things worse even after it dramatically improved the situation. He voted to cut off funds for our brave soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines fighting in Iraq. For months …

You Can Relax Now: Muslims Vow Not To Take Over America

Screen-shot-2010-08-31-at-11.53.39-AM-300x168

Even though they are the second largest religion in the world, Americans can rest easy now, knowing that they do not wish to impose their beliefs on us and take over our country.  The group, My Faith, My Voice, have made an ad to let us know that we don’t have to fear their love of Sharia Law. I know I, for one, will be sleeping much more restfully now.

John Boehner Invites Radio Host Who Said “Black Fathers…Simply Leave” To Do Show From His Office

bill-cunningham

Bill Cunningham is an entertaining talk show host; unless, that is, you take his comments seriously. He is bragging that House Minority Leader or, in Cunningham’s words “Speaker Boehner,” invited him to do his radio show from his office portico on election night. Think Progress has collected some of the Great American’s greatest hits.

– “Barack Hussein Obama, that’s the racist — obviously.” [8/24/09

– Cunningham alleged that “Obama wants to gas the Jews.” [10/31/08

– Cunningham invoked “[s]ix-six-six” and “the beast” in discussing “Barack Hussein Obama” [10/14/08]

– Cunningham highlights fake Kenyan birth …

Brother Glenn’s Traveling Salvation Show

alg_beck_speach

I couldn’t get the Neil Diamond song out of my head while reading Michelle Boorstein’s Washington Post take on “The Rally.”  Some highlights:

  • A few weeks before organizing a massive rally on the Mall that had the feel of a religious revival, Glenn Beck sought the blessing of some of the country’s most prominent conservative Christian leaders. The Fox talk show host wanted their support as he shifted from political commentary to a more spiritual message, he told the group of about 20. This is where God is leading me, Beck declared, according to Richard Land of the Southern …

What Grade Will Your Car Get?

    Autojp-articleInline

    by Stuart Shapiro

The EPA yesterday proposed changing the mileage rating stickers that come on every new cars.  One option would include a letter grade assigned by EPA and the Department of Transportation for the fuel economy of the car.

EPA and DOT are proposing two new label designs for comment. One label design prominently features a letter grade to communicate the vehicle’s overall fuel economy and greenhouse gas emissions performance. The new design will also provide consumers with an estimate of the expected fuel cost savings over five years compared to an average gasoline-powered vehicle of the same model …

52% Of GOP Think Obama Sympathetic To Imposing Sharia Law In US

    obama-muslim1

According to a Newsweek poll, President Obama “sympathizes with the goals of Islamic fundamentalists who want to impose Islamic law around the world.”  While Newsweek headlines the poll with “Democrats May Not Be Headed for Midterm Bloodbath,” the Islam question shows how misinformed the anti-Obama crowd is.

A full 14 percent of Republicans said that it was “definitely true” that Obama sympathized with the fundamentalists and wanted to impose Islamic law across the globe. An additional 38 percent said that it was probably true — bringing the total percentage of believers to 52 percent. Only 33 percent of Republicans …

An Eggxample Of Poor Government Oversight

    Vincent-Price-Egghead

    by Stuart Shapiro

FDA reported yesterday that the Iowa farms at the center of the salmonella-in-eggs outbreak were rife with violations of egg regulations.

Barns infested with flies, maggots and scurrying rodents, and overflowing manure pits were among the widespread food safety problems that federal inspectors found at a group of Iowa egg farms at the heart of a nationwide recall and salmonella outbreak.

This, of course, speaks badly of the egg producers (if you read the whole Times article, I recommend doing so on an empty stomach) but the government doesn’t come off that well either.  It is true …
