Latest Right-Wing Meme (Again): Calling Obama Un-American; King: No American Experience; Limbaugh: He’s “A Foreign Agent”

ph_king_flag2

Rep. Steve King of Iowa believes President Obama is a “Muslim Marxist” who “does not have an American experience,” according to remarks he both made and agreed with at a town hall meeting.

KING: I’ve just started to think about what we need to do and I have made this argument for a long time now that I am in the business of seeking to embarrass the administration into enforcing the law, particularly with regard to immigration.

BYSTANDING CONSTITUENT: He won’t do that. He’s a Marxist! He’s a Muslim Marxist.

KING: He’s at least a Marxist. And …

Harry Reid’s Act Of Political Cowardice

Senator_Harry_Reid

Maybe it’s because he’s in a reelection fight with a far-right opponent. Or maybe it’s because Harry Reid doesn’t really support the Constitution.  Breaking with President Obama, the Senate Majority Leader has, unfortunately, decided to come out with a statement urging that the proposed Islamic center near Ground Zero be located elsewhere, according to his spokesperson Jim Manley.

The First Amendment protects freedom of religion. Senator Reid respects that but thinks that the mosque should be built some place else. If the Republicans are being sincere, they would help us pass this long overdue bill to help the first responders …

After a few minutes of speaking at Pepper’s Café and Deli, a woman who accompanied the student to the event walked up to Levin and hit him in the face with a pie, a source with Levin’s office confirmed.

Big Rapids Police arrested the woman on assault and battery charges.

The Big Rapids Pioneer newspaper reported the woman’s name as Ahlam Mohsen, a 23-year-old senior at Michigan State University; and …

John McCain Finds His Soul Again

who-is-john-mccain

By Yashwanth Manjunath

Former Maverick turned loyal GOP soldier John McCain seems to have found his soul again. McCain is separating himself from the Republican Party leadership’s latest scheme to repeal the 14th Amendment.  McCain, when asked flat-out if he would support an amendment to repeal birthright citizenship, said “No. I mean, first of all we’d have to have hearings, we’d have to find out what the argument would be, but I certainly don’t at this time.” Apparently McCain does not agree with the rest of his party that “anchor babies” (an offensive phrase in its own right) are the …

Global Warming Deniers Hurting Investment In U.S. Economy

KevinParker_pic

A Deutsch Bank official says that since the U.S. Senate can’t come to terms on global warming, it will invest in other countries that recognize the issue. (h/t Laurence Lewis)

Alternative energy investment prospects have shriveled in the United States after the U.S. Senate was unable to break a deadlock over tackling global warming, a Deutsche Bank official said.

“You just throw your hands up and say … we’re going to take our money elsewhere,” said Kevin Parker in an interview with Reuters.

Parker, who is global head of the Frankfurt-based bank’s Deutsche Asset Management Division, oversees nearly $700 …

SecDef Gates To Retire in 2011

89371831

In a Fred Kaplin article at foreignpolicy.com, Defense Secretary Robert Gates says he’s leaving his post next year.

Gates, who turns 67 in September, says he wants to leave the job and retire, this time for good, sometime in 2011. “I think that it would be a mistake to wait until January 2012,” he said. It might be hard to find a good person to take the job so late, with just one year to go in the president’s current term. And, he added, “This is not the kind of job you want to fill in the spring of …

GOP Will Run Promoting Anti-Muslim Sentiment

ch_cover

The GOP’s decision to make opposition to an Islamic Center near Ground Zero a campaign issue means they’ll be running for office against the concept of freedom of religion. Specifically, it’s President Obama’s support of the center that has Republicans frothing at the mouth.

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), the recruitment chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, suggested the GOP might seek to capitalize on Obama’s decision to weigh in on the proposed ground zero mosque.

Of course, what is rarely mentioned is that the proposed structure is an Islamic center to educate people about one of the world’s …

Support for Sarah Palin as a presidential candidate has gone 18 to 12 points since March, according to a new Clarus poll. (via Political Wire)

Said pollster Ron Faucheux: “Palin gets more attention from the national media than presidential support from Republicans. The major change since March is that Gingrich has now edged out Palin for third place, even though the two are running well within the statistical margin of error.”…

TX Senator Cornyn On Mosque: “This Is Not About Freedom Of Religion”

Cornyn-AP-7-07

Texas Senator John Cornyn says building an Islamic center near Ground Zero is “not about freedom of religion.”  However, speaking on Fox News Sunday, Cornyn failed to say just what it is about.

“It demonstrates that Washington, the White House, the administration, the president himself, seems to be disconnected from the mainstream of America,” John Cornyn (Texas), said on Fox News Sunday. “I think that’s one of the reasons why people are so frustrated.

“This is not about freedom of religion,” Cornyn said. “I do think it’s unwise to build a mosque in the site where 3,000 …

Palin Accuses Obama Of Not Taking A Position On The New York Islamic Center

palinkiss1-550x456

Taking to her Facebook page, Sarah Palin is attacking President Obama (for a change), claiming he hasn’t taken a position on building a mosque near Ground Zero.

Mr. President, should they or should they not build a mosque steps away from where radical Islamists killed 3000 people? Please tell us your position. We all know that they have the right to do it, but should they? And, no, this is not above your pay grade. If those who wish to build this Ground Zero mosque are sincerely interested in encouraging positive “cross-cultural engagement” and dialogue to show a moderate …
