Obama Adds To Mosque Remarks: Says He Was Talking “Right”(s) Not “Wisdom”

2010-08-14T185042Z_01_BTRE67D1EM500_RTROPTP_1_OUKWD-UK-OIL-SPILL

President Obama told reporters in Panama City Beach, FL that his Friday night comments on the mosque near Ground Zero were focused on the right to express religious freedom, but not the wisdom of building a mosque there.

“My intention was simply to let people know what I thought. Which was that in this country we treat everybody equally and in accordance with the law, regardless of race, regardless of religion,” Obama said.

“I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there. I was commenting very specifically on …

Rep. Peter King: Obama Has “Moral” Obligation To Oppose Mosque

Picture-312

Funny how conservatives think they have the market cornered on what “morality” is, and that lack of religious tolerance, according to Peter King, falls into that category. King told Jamie Colby on FOX News that the president has the “moral” responsibility to oppose the Islamic center being built near Ground Zero, and that “a gaping wound…is being torn open again by Muslim leadership.”

Happy 75th Birthday, Social Security. Too Bad The GOP Wants To Destroy You

obama-radio-address

President Obama used his Saturday address to point out how the GOP wants to destroy Social Security, on the 75th anniversary of when President Roosevelt signed it into law.

Seventy-five years after President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Social Security into law, Obama said in his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday: “We have an obligation to keep that promise, to safeguard Social Security for our seniors, people with disabilities and all Americans — today, tomorrow and forever.”

Some Republican leaders in Congress are “pushing to make privatizing Social Security a key part of their legislative agenda if they win …

To Conservative Bloggers Obama Worse Than Tim McVeigh; Carter Worse Than Obama; Hillary Worse Than Al Capone

Capone-Obama

Tommy Christopher at Mediaite has a run-down of the “25 Worst Figures in American History” as decided by 43 conservative blogs.

Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh could only make it to #9 on the list, while Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama earned the top two spots, respectively. Worst of all, though, is that Snooki doesn’t seem to have gotten a single vote. (h/t Doug Mataconis)

Amazingly so many of history’s evil people are still with us.

18 of the top 25 are liberal figures, 11 of whom are still alive. In all of American history, 11 of …

Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks, says he won’t be intimidated by the Pentagon and will publish the remaining Afghan war documents within a month.

The Pentagon has said that secret information will be even more damaging to security and risk more lives than WikiLeaks’ initial release of some 76,000 war documents.

“This organization will not be threatened by the Pentagon or any other group,” Julian Assange told reporters in Stockholm. “We proceed cautiously and safely with this material.”

In an interview with The Associated Press, he said that if U.S. defense officials want to be seen as promoting democracy then …

Obama Expresses Support For Mosque Near Ground Zero (UPDATED With Video)

PH2010081305922

At the Ramadan Iftar dinner at the White House, President Obama weighed in on the proposed Islamic center near Ground Zero.

Recently, attention has been focused on the construction of mosques in certain communities – particularly in New York. Now, we must all recognize and respect the sensitivities surrounding the development of lower Manhattan. The 9/11 attacks were a deeply traumatic event for our country. The pain and suffering experienced by those who lost loved ones is unimaginable. So I understand the emotions that this issue engenders. Ground Zero is, indeed, hallowed ground.

But let me be clear: as a …

Rep. Louis Gohmert Melts Down Talking To Anderson Cooper

gohmert-300x161

Texas Congressman Louis Gohmert went on Anderson Cooper’s show to discuss his view that women come to the U.S. to have “terror babies” and was obstinate and angry from the get-go. Texas State Rep. Debbie Riddle has the same view and will be on radio with me tonight. While it is true, as Cooper agrees, that there are “passport babies,” Gohmert could provide no proof of “terror babies,” but what he couldn’t provide in facts he made up for in volume.

Democratic Vs. Republican Tax Cuts: You Decide

GR2010081106717-thumb-454x592-23659

by Stuart Shapiro

Ezra Klein at the Washington Post has an outstanding graphic up that shows the relative tax cuts under the Democratic plan (to allow some of the Bush tax cuts expire) and Republican plans (to keep all of the Bush tax cuts in effect).  No explanation appears to be necessary.
