Obama To Approve $600 Million For Border Security Today

border-security-05214

In spite of ignorant statements by some that the president “is choosing” not to secure the border, more resources are being given to the issue. And not for the first time.

Among other things, the bill provides for roughly 1,500 new law enforcement agents, new unmanned aerial vehicles, new forwarding operating bases and $14 million in new communications equipment.

Obama argued that the new law would facilitate cooperation along the border between the U.S. and Mexican governments, and asserted that it would make “an important difference” in the push for comprehensive immigration reform.

The bill will be paid …

Florida GOP Statehouse Candidate Wants Concentration Camps For Undocumented Workers

38480178_scaled_202x282

Marg Baker, who is running for the Florida state House, wants undocumented workers placed in “camps” until they can be deported. (H/t Think Progress)

We can follow what happened back in the 40s or 50s. I was just a little girl in Miami, and they built camps for the people that snuck into the country, because they were illegal. They put them in the camps, and they shipped them back. We can do that.

To Baker, Japanese internment camps were a good idea. Someone ought to tell her that the United States apologized for this in 1988 and offered …

Dr. Laura Defends Use Of “N” Word And Tells Woman “Don’t N-Double-A-C-P Me” (Updated)

dr-laura

Dr. Laura Schlessinger says so many blacks voted for Obama just because he’s black. She also said the “n-word” is okay because black people use it. Listening to this call, it sounds as though the two people talking should switch places and the caller should be the therapist. (h/t Mediaite).

Speaking to a black caller who called for advice on handling racial tensions with her white husband, Dr. Laura uses the offensive word eleven times and ultimately tells the caller that if she doesn’t “have a sense of humor,” she should not “marry out of your race.”

Her most …

Ben Quayle Denies Involvement With “Dirty” Website, Then Has To Admit It

100811_ben_quayle_ap_328

Calling Barack Obama the “worst president in history” is the least of Arizona House candidate Ben Quayle’s problems.

Quayle, 33, has had to confront a much bigger credibility issue this week after a blogger revealed that he had once been a contributing writer for Dirty Scottsdale, a raunchy, sex-themed website that covered the club scene in his adopted hometown before morphing into the national gossip site TheDirty.com.

At first, Quayle denied the claim, telling POLITICO on Tuesday that he “was not involved in the site.” But hours later, after blogs, news websites and other media picked up …

Gay Marriages Can Resume In California, But Not Until August 18

alg_vaughn_walker

Judge Vaughn Walker, who declared Prop. 8 unconstitutional last week, has lifted the stay on gay marriages.

Judge Vaughn Walker’s ruling came as he rejected a formal request by opponents of same-sex marriage to freeze any further weddings until the appeals process had been exhausted.

But Walker disappointed gay and lesbian couples across California who had been hoping to tie the knot immediately, saying in an 11-page finding that same-sex weddings would only be able to take place from August 18 onwards.…

Obama, FDR And Robert Gibbs

fdr_obama

by Stuart Shapiro

There has been much hand-wringing in the liberal blogosphere over the past couple of days over Robert Gibbs’ blasting of the “professional left.”  Much of this has been a rehashing of debates that have been going on since Obama refused to take over the banks early in his term.  However, Puakev at Kos has a fascinating post comparing liberal criticism of Obama with that of FDR in his first term.  Money quote:

In fact, it’s pretty remarkable how closely the attacks Roosevelt experienced from his left echo the attacks that liberals make against Obama today.  There was …

Is The GOP Now Just A Southern Party

Taegan Goddard points to the new NBC/WSJ poll.

The poll contains this interesting finding: The GOP has a HUGE generic-ballot edge in the South (52%-31%), but it doesn’t lead anywhere else. In the Northeast, Dems have a 55%-30% edge; in the Midwest, they lead 49%-38%; and in the West, it’s 44%-43%. Yet do keep this caveat in mind: Many of the congressional districts Republicans are targeting outside of the South resemble some of those Southern districts they’re hoping to win back in November — where you have whiter and older voters. Think Stephanie Herseth’s seat in South Dakota; Tim …

Goldman Sachs Laughing At Financial “Reform”

2010-01-18-LloydBlankfein

By Yashwanth Manjunath

Goldman Sachs executives recently told analysts that  they do not expect the new financial “reform” measure to cost them any revenue. (CEO Lloyd Blankfein is pictured). In fact, Goldman thinks that they are “well positioned to be a market leader under the new rules” according to Jack McCabe, co-head of Goldman’s derivatives clearing service business, and the analysts agree. “They’ve clearly seen the writing on the wall and are planning their moves ahead of time,” said Jim Sinegal, a bank analyst at Morningstar Inc. “It’s definitely a little sooner than I expected.” Richard Bove, another bank analyst …
