Note To Sharron Angle: Name Our “Domestic Enemies”

Nevada’s GOP candidate for U.S. Senate, Sharron Angle, continued her meme that we have domestic enemies in Congress when talking to right-wing radio host Heidi Harris. As Greg Sargent reports, Harris claimed there are people in Congress who “truly want to do us harm.”
ANGLE: Well, we were talking about what’s going on in Congress, of course, and the policies that have come out of Congress, and those policies as we’ve all seen over the last 18 months have definitely hurt our country.
HARRIS: Yeah, well I agree with you by the way, but I wanted to …

Republicans have a game plan should they be fortunate enough to win back the House: investigate and subpoena.
Republicans are planning a wave of committee investigations targeting the White House and Democratic allies if they win back the majority.
Everything from the microscopic – the New Black Panther party – to the massive –- think bailouts – is on the GOP to-do list, according to a half-dozen Republican aides interviewed by POLITICO.
…
And a handful of aggressive would-be committee chairmen – led by Reps. Darrell Issa (R-Calif., right) and Lamar Smith (R-Tex., left) – are quietly gearing up …

There are few (if any) analysts I trust more than Nate Silver who recently migrated from his own blog to the New York Times. His newest estimate has the Democrats losing between 6 and 7 seats with a 20% chance that the GOP takes over the Senate.
The Democrats now have an approximately 20 percent chance of losing 10 or more seats in the Senate, according to the model, which would cost them control of the chamber unless Gov. Charlie Crist of Florida, who is running for the Senate as an independent, both wins his race and …

From a Carter Center statement:
Former President Jimmy Carter announced that he is leaving Pyongyang, North Korea, this morning accompanied by Mr. Aijalon Mahli Gomes. Mr. Gomes was imprisoned in January of this year and later sentenced to eight years of hard labor with a fine of about $600,000 for the crime of illegal entry into North Korea. At the request of President Carter, and for humanitarian purposes, Mr. Gomes was granted amnesty by the Chairman of the National Defense Commission, Kim Jong-Il.
It is expected that Mr. Gomes will be returned to Boston, Mass., early Friday afternoon, to …

During this current Ground Zero “Mosque” controversy, the general paradigm of the Republican Party has been one of intolerance and opportunistic race-baiting, while the Democratic Party has practiced cowardice and capitulation. The issue has dominated the Washington media dialogue and been polarized and politicized to no end. Americans have witnessed the very worst elements of our political process. Perhaps the greatest disappointment for liberals came when our supposedly progressive president was in favor of the project before he was against it (or would no longer comment on it). However, through all the disappointing demagoguery, one man has …

Yashwanth Manjunath recently wrote here about Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan, a Muslim-American soldier killed in the Iraq war. We need to keep reminding those who bash Islam how Muslims have died for this country, how especially poignant it is that after 9/11, and in light of our current national debate, they have spilled blood on behalf of the United States. When Colin Powell brought Kahn into the national consciousness, he said lots of other things, too that are worth remembering. He used the appearance (below) on “Meet the Press” to explain why he supported Barack Obama for president.
Powell: …

The man who just might be Alaska’s GOP nominee for U.S. Senate if he does beat incumbent Lisa Murkowski for the nomination is no mainstream Republican. Democrats would love to run against Joe Miller.
Among Miller’s views: He wants to eliminate the Department of Education, believes the government shouldn’t pay for unemployment insurance and says of climate change on his campaign site that it “may not even exist.” Among the more mainstream GOP positions he’s taken: Miller would cut welfare; eliminate health care for the poor by scrapping Medicaid; and the Anchorage Daily News reported that he has has …

The preacher who is leading the Koran burning at the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville on 9/11 says he wants to send “a radical message to Moslems” as “a warning” because they have to know we won’t tolerate Sharia law in the United States.
[Terry] Jones said he fears that the U.S. will become like Europe, where as the Muslims “gained in population, they also began to demand sharia law, sharia courts, which is a very violent form of punishment.” The Koran-burning day, he said, is about sending a “warning” that “that is not welcomed in America.”

Michael Hood reports that conservative rock-and-roller Ted Nugent, appearing on a Seattle radio show, referred to President Obama as a “Moslem operative.”
“The White House he told [host] Dori [Monson] is inhabited by the Mao Tse Tung fan club,” and [the president] is the “No. 1 deceiver in the history of mankind.”
He added (rather spectacularly) that Obama “weaseled his way” into power “embracing the Islamic, Muslim, Marxist, Communist and socialist agenda.”
…
Dori: Do you believe he’s a Muslim?
Nuge: “You’re damn right I do! He says he’s a Christian so he can continue with his jihad …
