NBER: Recession Ended In June 2009
The National Bureau of Economic Research, which is considered the arbiter of recessions, says ours ended in June 2009. It began in December 2007, making it the longest downturn since the Great Depression of the 1930’s. Another downturn would be considered a new recession, not a double-dip one. Gross domestic product, employment and personal income are the date used to make this determination. The NBER says, “The basis for this decision was the length and strength of the recovery to date.” So who will be the next conservative to tell us how poorly the economy is doing?Click here for reuse options!
