Raul Grijalva To Be The Victim Of Citizens United?

by Sandi Behrns
For months now, Democrats have taken comfort in the fact that Democratic Party donations have far out-paced those of the GOP. The lack of focus and record of floundering on the part of the Republican National Committee and its chairman, Michael Steele, seemed to indicate that despite the political climate of this midterm season, the Democrats would be sitting pretty, at least financially. Still, we always knew that last June’s Supreme Court ruling in the Citizens United case would come back to haunt us.
Sure enough, there is a flood of money flowing into races across …

At the “Values Voter Summit” in DC, Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann thrilled the crowd by saying President Obama is infantile.
Bachmann asserted that Obama — a former constitutional law lecturer — thinks the key rights enumerated in the Declaration of Independence are negatives.
“That kind of thinking, to me, is infantilism,” she said.
“Barack Obama’s government has clearly betrayed our trust, the trust of the American people,” she said.

The Hotline is reporting that Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski, who was defeated in the Republican primary by tea party favorite Joe Miller, is set to announce she’ll run as a write-in candidate. Nate Silver says she can win.
There is plenty of precedent for write-ins being elected to the Congress, although fewer have done so successfully in recent years. Meanwhile, a poll by Public Policy Polling found Ms. Murkowski getting 34 percent of the vote against Mr. Miller’s 38 percent and Mr. McAdams’ 22 percent. Private polling has also shown Ms. Murkowski running closely with Mr. Miller, according to The …

Greg Sargent picks up on a 2006 article in the Wilmington News Journal in which Delaware’s GOP Senate nominee Christine O’Donnell appeared to give an extreme view on gays.
She considers homosexuality an identity disorder and sees pornography and the lust it engenders as selfish gratification.
“Sex is a covenant between a man and a woman and God,” she says. “Your job is to satisfy the other, the giving of oneself to another. Porn turns that around.”
She practices what she preaches, she says. She’s had boyfriends, but they don’t last long when they realize her seriousness concerning chastity before …

Think Progress has a compendium of the things Christine O’Donnell has said over the years, so we have it nice and tidy, all in one place. Among them:
Richard Dawkins Furious At Pope For Tying Godless To Nazis

Pope Benedict’s speech to Queen Elizabeth in England praised how Britain fought “Nazi tyranny that wished to eradicate God from society,” prompting one of the world’s best known atheists, Richard Dawkins, to proclaim it “a despicable outrage.” What set off Dawkins is this paragraph:
“Even in our own lifetime, we can recall how Britain and her leaders stood against a Nazi tyranny that wished to eradicate God from society and denied our common humanity to many, especially the Jews, who were thought unfit to live. I also recall the regime’s attitude to Christian pastors and religious who spoke the truth …

“Paranoia strikes deep,” as Stephen Stills put it. New right-wing darling Christine O’Donnell has talked of how people are hiding in bushes when she’s at candidate forums, and she won’t disclose where she lives. Now we discover she told former campaign manager Kristin Murray that when she ran against Joe Biden for Senate in 2008 O’Donnell believed Biden was tapping her phone. Other former staffers have some issues with her.
Alan Moore, who worked on press releases and policy statements for two months during the 2008 bid and now helps run the conservative site Townhall.com, said his conversations with …

A Vancouver woman who claimed a black woman threw acid in her face made up the story so she could preach about Jesus.
Police Chief Clifford Cook said at an afternoon news conference that Bethany Storro, 28, told detectives the truth during an interview after discrepancies emerged in her story.
The revelation that her story was phony came after she canceled an appearance on “Oprah” for fear the truth would be revealed upon questioning.
Storro originally claimed a black woman with a ponytail threw acid in her face at night on Aug. 30 as she was celebrating a new job …

No, you can’t make this stuff up.
“American scientific companies are crossbreeding humans and animals and coming up with mice with fully functioning human brains,” warned Delaware senate candidate Christine O’Donnell on the O’Reilly Factor in 2007.
Here is the actual story:
Human-mouse chimera studies were reported in 2004 that involved the injection of human neural stem cells into developing mouse brains — something different from cross-breeding — resulting in brains that were 1 percent human, and a Stanford researcher did ask his ethics board for an opinion on the ethics of creating chimeric mice with 100 percent human brain …

South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint says what he wants for the Senate is “complete gridlock.” (h/t Political Wire)
He tells Bloomberg Businessweek his goal for the Senate is “complete gridlock” and that he wants to stop programs that violate his anti-Big Government ideology. “What happens in the Senate is the Republicans sink to the lowest common denominator,” he says, taking a quick break between TV appearances. “People want an alternative to some kind of watered-down Republican philosophy.”
…
The first priority of the new conservative lawmakers, says DeMint, will be to stop new spending and repeal Obama’s health-care legislation. …
