Bakery Refused To Make Rainbow Cake for Gay Customer (UPDATED)

gay-cookies_20100924183105_320_240

A  student from a campus group at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) was told by a local bakery it would not bake them a multi-colored cupcake to celebrate “National Coming Out Day” on October 11.

“We’re right on the cusp of being equal with anyone else, I don’t know why they would do that,” said student Shan Parker.

That student’s partner and close friend are both troubled by the refusal. They believe it shows Indianapolis has a ways to go to embrace the gay and lesbian community.

Lilly Stockton of “Just Cookies” told a reporter they don’t do cupcakes. Then …

odonnell-shrugging-cropped-proto-custom_2

Delaware Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell’s history of misleading statements about her education continues to be revealed with yet another LinkedIn reference that is not true. O’Donnell’s resume says she attended Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, California. (h/t Plum Line)

Claremont Graduate University tells TPM that Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell did not attend the Southern California school despite listing it under education on her LinkedIn profile.

Gary Scott made the discovery.

In 2002, O’Donnell was listed as a “Lincoln Fellow” at the Claremont Institute, a conservative think tank also based in Claremont. However, the institute is not affiliated with the Claremont …

You Know You’re a REPUBLICAN/DEMOCRAT if… by Frank Benjamin

My favorite line from this book:

“You Know You’re a REPUBLICAN if…You start off on third base and think you’ve hit a triple.”

But I’d like to add to that:

And you know you’re a Republican if you do in fact start off at the humble beginnings of first base but have been cajoled by those on third to vote against the only people who are actually trying to help you get to …

Rand Paul Furious With Opponent Jack Conway For Accurately Quoting Him

Jed Lewison at Kos shows an ad Kentucky Senate candidate Jack Conway is running against his Republican opponent Rand Paul. Paul is hopping mad at the ad, calling it “politics at its lowest form.”  In the ad, Conway calls Paul into account for his comment last year: “the real answer to Medicare would be a $2,000 deductible.”

“The ad is a lie,” Paul responded during a campaign stop in Hazard in eastern Kentucky. “It’s dishonest. It’s demagoguery. It’s politics at its lowest form. And it’s also why we can’t have an intelligent discussion in America.”

Except, the ad isn’t a …

Anti-Gay Bullying Continues To Take Lives Of Teenage Boys

260xStory

Thirteen-year-old Asher Brown killed himself on September 19 in his home outside of Houston.  His family claims they tried to warn the school that their son was being harassed, but the school claims they received no calls.

He shot himself in the head after enduring what his mother and stepfather say was constant harassment from four other students at Hamilton Middle School in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District.

Brown, his family said, was “bullied to death” — picked on for his small size, his religion and because he did not wear designer clothes and shoes. Kids also accused him of …

By Yashwanth Manjunath

Already reported here is how Sharron Angle and her husband live off his federal pension. Sharron Angle is also receiving government-run health care. Angle’s campaign told Nevada journalist Jon Ralston on Monday that both Angle and her husband receive health care from the federal government. Angle spokeswoman Ciara Matthews said in a statement:

“Mr. Ted Angle receives his pension through the (federal) Civil Service Retirement System. While it is not supplemented by the federal government, current civil servants pay into the program to pay the schedule of those already retired – much like how the Social …

More Of Christine O’Donnell’s Misleading Statements On Her Past

odonnell-malet6-cropped-proto-custom_2

Delaware GOP Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell claimed for years that she graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University when she obtained her degree just this past summer. She also claimed in a lawsuit that she was denied the opportunity to take master’s degree classes at Princeton, and the earning power it would have provided, even though she never was accepted into Princeton. Now, Greg Sargent has unearthed another incorrect O’Donnell claim. (h/t TPM)

..she claims she studied at the University of Oxford — but a look at her actual record shows this is at best an exaggeration and at worst …

Justin Bieber Smears Tea Party? Right Wing Flips Out

Justin_Bieber_AP_2

by Sandi Behrns

Last Thursday’s season premier of the CBS crime drama CSI featured a very special guest star: teen heartthrob Justin Bieber. The casting was certainly calculated to bring a larger audience to the show; but did it also serve a more nefarious purpose?

Bieber played [in the words of Alessandra Stanley of the New York Times] a “domestic terrorist with Tea Party leanings.” Even though the episode made no direct reference to the Tea Party, the “right-wing” protest depicted resembled a Tea Party protest, at least according to some viewers who have commented on FreeRepublic.com

Obama To Progressives: If You “Now Want To Take [Your] Ball And Go Home…[You] Weren’t Serious In The First Place”

1115_obama_blog_cover

One of the most interesting quotes in the Rolling Stone interview with President Obama was this message to liberals:

“People need to shake off this lethargy, people need to buck up. Bringing about change is hard — that’s what I said during the campaign. It has been hard, and we’ve got some lumps to show for it. But if people now want to take their ball and go home, that tells me folks weren’t serious in the first place. If you’re serious, now’s exactly the time that people have to step up.”

And Obama make the point that …
