Democrats Disliked; Republicans Disliked More

A new Associated Press GfK Poll shows how discontent voters are. But as unhappy as they are with Democrats, Republicans fare worse.

…60 percent disapprove of the job congressional Democrats are doing — yet 68 percent frown on how Republicans are performing. While 59 percent are unhappy with how Democrats are handling the economy, 64 percent are upset by the GOP’s work on the country’s top issue. Just over half have unfavorable views of each party.

However, Republicans are more motivated to get out and vote.

Overall, 49 percent of those supporting their Republican congressional candidate are very interested in …

DeMint Wants To Rein In Regulations: Constitution Won’t Let Him

ASSESS-1-custom1

by Stuart Shapiro

Senator Jim DeMint introduced legislation that would curb the executive branch’s ability to issue regulations that implement the laws passed by Congress.

Mr. DeMint has accused the Obama administration of strangling various sectors of the economy with onerous regulations, and his bill would require Congressional approval of any new “major rule” – that is any regulation that “may result in an annual effect on the economy of $100 million or more.”

This is a favorite of conservatives.  It gives them a chance to favor legislation that sounds good but has no chance of passing (it would need …

Kennedy Family Asks Linda McMahon To Halt Ad Saying JFK Would Support Her Position

Kennedy+McMahon

Linda McMahon, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate from Connecticut, put out an ad using footage of John F. Kennedy from 1963 touting the benefits of tax cuts, then saying “A good idea then; a better idea now.” The clear implication is that Kennedy would have approved of her desire to cut taxes in today’s economy. Ted Kennedy, Jr. says McMahon’s ad is misleading.

“(Your ad) distorts the legacy of President Kennedy in order to mislead voters into thinking that President Kennedy would support your position on tax policy,” wrote Kennedy, son of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy.

ALeqM5hG93hRGr3mGYEqV48a-2tJdqbkXQ

Roman Otto Conaway, an Army veteran, is accused of threatening to kill President Obama and threatening to “start an apocalypse.”

Federal agents arrested Conaway, 50, at his home early Wednesday in the St. Louis suburb of Fairview Heights, ending a seven-hour standoff that investigators say followed his threats to kill Obama as part of a plan to ignite a war between Muslims and Christians.

In the criminal complaint, [FBI Special Agent Richard] Box alleged that on Tuesday afternoon, someone at a St. Louis-area mosque told the FBI a caller identifying himself as “Roman” threatened to burn a copy of …

Alaska GOP Senate Candidate Joe Miller: Government “Shouldn’t Have Gotten Into” Social Security

joe.miller_370x278

You have to wonder at what point the extremist views of tea party candidates will be ludicrous enough for a even a majority of Republicans to laugh them off a ticket.  Alaska’s Joe Miller revealed himself on an Alaska radio show to be a serious Tenther. Although he’s not against current beneficiaries continuing to receive benefits, he doesn’t believe future recipients should be afforded the right (h/t Think Progress).

…it’s gotten us into this quandary, where government is into something that it shouldn’t have gotten into. Now we’ve got a whole generation of people that are dependent on …

Limbaugh: “If You Voted For Obama You Deserve To Be Unemployed” And “In Misery”

Misstating facts (what a shock!), claiming Obama wants to raise taxes on everybody, Rush Limbaugh say if you voted for him “you deserve to be unemployed” and to be “in misery.”  And people are unemployed “because of Democrats.”  Also, if you voted that way you “voted for a bunch of socialists.”

50 Senators Said They Support The Public Option, So What’s Stopping Them Now?

By Yashwanth Manjunath

Here is a list of the 50 current Senators who all are on the record as supporting the Public Option. During the health care debate, many Senators who claimed to support the Public Option were unwilling to take a stand on the issue because they argued that its inclusion could jeopardize the rest of the reform package. Well, the rest of the reform effort is already in the process of implementation as we speak, so those concerns no longer apply.

So what is stopping these 50 Senators from passing the Public Option as a standalone …

Sarah Palin Wants To Remind You That Obama’s Middle Name Is “Hussein”

Screen-shot-2010-09-23-at-2.56.17-PM1-e1285268770865

Sarah Palin believes we’ve learned more about Christine O’Donnell in the week since she’s been getting national attention than we ever knew about Barack Obama.  While bemoaning efforts to learn who O’Donnell is, she also has no problem digging into the past of O’Donnell’s opponent, Chris Coons, because of something he said in jest twenty years ago.  And let’s not forget how important it is to remind people that Obama’s middle name is the same as a Middle Eastern dictator we killed.  Oh, and does anyone know Christine O’Donnell’s middle name? (h/t Glynnis MacNicol at Mediaite)

GOP’s “Pledge To America” Wants To Repeal Health Care And Replace It With The Same Provisions

Think Progress has good information about the new “Pledge to America” put out by the GOP.  Amazingly, the “repeal and replace” section on what they want to do with health care indicates that what they want to “replace” already exists in the Affordable Health Care Act.  A few examples:

Affordable Care Act
GOP’s ‘Pledge To America’

Insurance Across State Lines…
Allows for the creation of State Health Insurance Compacts – permits states to enter into agreements to allow for the sale of insurance across state lines. (SEC. 1333; p. 100-101)
“We will allow individuals to buy health care coverage

There IS A Line: GOP Will Try To Remove Racist Candidate From Ballot

russell

by Sandi Behrns

It is a year when it has come to seem impossible for a Republican candidate to be too outrageous, offensive or extreme. So the revelation last week that the GOP nominee for Congress in New York’s 18th District, Jim Russell,  is a published racist struck many as startling, but not surprising. As Politico reported:

Longtime Democratic incumbent Rep. Nita Lowey’s Republican challenger this fall is a Christian conservative author and activist whose writings have frowned on inter-racial marriage and movies like “Save the Last Dance,” touted the benefits of studies linking race to IQ and said parents
