GOP Post-Election Day Goal: Stopping Sarah Palin; Viewed As A “Disaster In Waiting”

Let’s be clear that this is not a Democratic goal, but a Republican one, to stop Sarah Palin from getting anywhere near a presidential nomination, reports Politico.
Interviews with advisers to the main 2012 presidential contenders and with other veteran Republican operatives make clear they see themselves on a common, if uncoordinated, mission of halting the momentum and credibility Palin gained with conservative activists by plunging so aggressively into this year’s midterm campaigns.
There is rising expectation among GOP elites that Palin will probably run for president in 2012 and could win the Republican nomination, a prospect many of …

Sarah Palin appeared on FOX News Sunday doing what she does best: pointing fingers and blaming everyone else for what’s going wrong; like the fading Joe Miller Senate campaign:
“The thing’s this fellow has had to put with against the GOP machine and the Democrats and the Liberal media in Alaska it’s not wonder that the numbers are tightening in that race.”
At issue is a phone that wasn’t hung up properly, revealing a bunch of reporters at Anchorage TV station KTVA making comments Palin decided were unfair to Miller, leading Palin to refer to them as “corrupt bastards” when …

They called it “Camelot,” an era that held such promise and inspiration. That era, the presidency of John F. Kennedy, was defined by the word of Ted Sorensen.
Considered by many to be the premier presidential speechwriter of his lifetime — some thought him the best ever — Mr. Sorensen played significant roles in crafting JFK’s enduring speeches, including his 1961 inaugural address, and the president’s book “Profiles in Courage,” which was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1957.
So co-mingled were Sorensen and Kennedy, it was difficult to know which of them generated key ideas and writings. Sorensen addressed …

Republican long-shot candidate for governor, Carl Paladino, objected to a line of questioning from WCAX-TV’s Kristin Carlson and walked out after a couple of minutes of questioning. Paladino argues in interviews that he wants to talk about “the issues.” However, if Paladino stuck to the issues instead of making personal, offensive comments, he would more likely avoid scenes like the one below.

by Gabe Berman
Gabe is the author of Live Like a Fruit Fly
I was just taking a walk in South Florida and a propeller plane flew by dragging a banner which read, “End Socialism. Vote Nov 2nd.”
Do they really think we’re that stupid?!?
Let me turn on the TV and see what’s on… Sports. Gossip. Sports. Gossip. Sports. Gossip.
How about in my local newspaper. – Sports and Gossip.
On the web? – Sports. Gossip. Sports. Gossip. Viagra ads.
Well, maybe we really are that stupid.…

CBS estimated the attendance at yesterday’s Stewart/Colbert “Rally To Restore Sanity And/Or Fear” at 215,000, or three times the number at Glenn Beck’s rally last month.
An estimated 215,000 people attended a rally organized by Comedy Central talk show hosts Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert Saturday in Washington, according to a crowd estimate commissioned by CBS News.
The company AirPhotosLive.com based the attendance at the “Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear” on aerial pictures it took over the rally, which took place on the Mall in Washington. It has a margin of error of plus or …

New York gubernatorial longshot GOP candidate Carl Paladino referred to Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand as Senator Chuck Schumer’s “little girl,” and the New York senators have responded.
On Friday, standing in a chilly rain at the Capitol building in Albany, Mr. Paladino once again referred to Kirsten E. Gillibrand, the state’s junior United States senator, as a “little girl” who kowtows to Senator Charles E. Schumer.
…
When reporters asked him at a campaign rally if he had any second thoughts about he had said the day before, Mr. Paladino characteristically did not mince his words.
“She does exactly what …

Yusef Islam was interrupted singing “Peace Train” at the “Rally To Restore Sanity and/or Fear” by Stephen Colbert who said he would not get on that train, and then brought out Ozzy Osborne to sing “Crazy Train.” The Peace Train reappeared, only to be interrupted again by Cobert to bring Ozzy back. Finally, it was the O’Jays that saved the day with “Love Train.”

Matt Taibbi who recently wrote a brilliant expose on the Tea Party is now working on a book and excerpted it yesterday at Daily Kos. However, I think he only has part of the problem right. The part he has right is the criticism of the leaders of the Tea Party:
By rallying behind dingbats like Palin and Michele Bachmann—the Minnesota congresswoman who thought the movie Aladdin promoted witchcraft and insisted global warming wasn’t a threat because “carbon dioxide is natural”—the Tea Party has made anti-intellectualism itself a rallying cry.
But I don’t really buy all …

As one one expect, the signs at the “Rally to Restore Sanity” headlined by Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are much more sane than ones we’ve seen at tea party rallies.
“I hate signs,” said one sign. “Have you seen my keys?” said another.
Slogans urged people to “relax.” But also: “Righties, don’t stomp on my head,” a reference to a Republican rally in Kentucky at which a liberal activist was pulled to the ground and stepped on. And, “I wouldn’t care if the president was Muslim.”
…
Stewart and Colbert encouraged attendees to bring signs with slogans such as …
