Postal Worker Says He Was Fired For Recording Customer’s Racist Rant

racistvert-e1289572010768-300x275

A mail carrier endured the anger of a customer in Hingham, MA, after she signed for a letter and insisted she give it back to him. He said he couldn’t accept it back after she signed for it, resulting in the woman going ballistic. Mediaite has the shocking video.

…the customer becomes enraged when her mail carrier refuses to take back a certified letter than she had signed for but no longer wants. This prompts her to tell him he’s “f*cking ni**er thief,” that he “killed Martin Luther King, Jr.” because black people always turn on each other, that …

Contrary To What Republicans Think, Most Americans Don’t Want Health Care Law Repealed

An AP poll shows that 58% would take the health care law further or leave it alone. So, when Republicans yell about “the will of the people,” take notice.

“When it comes to the health care law Obama signed in March, just 39 percent back the GOP effort to repeal it or scale it back. Fifty-eight percent would rather make even more changes in the health care system or leave the measure alone. …

“In further evidence that last week’s decisive GOP win was not an embrace of Republicans, the poll found that the party is no better liked than …

Lisa Murkowski Getting 98% Of Alaska Write-In Votes; Likely Headed For Victory

100826_miller_murkowski_ap_328

With Senator Lisa Murkowski receiving 98% of write-in votes in her campaign to retain her U.S. Senate seat, it is likely she will win, in spite of the Republican Party having nominated Joe Miller. The Miller campaign is not taking it well, calling foul and objecting to even those ballots where Murkowski’s name is spelled correctly.

Miller has challenged about 10 percent of the 45,132 write-in ballots counted so far. But 89.78 percent of the total write-ins have gone to Murkowski without challenge. About 90 percent of the challenges made by Miller’s camp have been rejected by Division of …

Republican State Tennessee Rep. Worries That Illegal Immigrants Here Will “Multiply Like Rats”

h95

Tennessee State Rep. Curry Todd asked a state official if there were citizen checks before a woman could get prenatal care.  He was told told that coverage for the “unborn” cannot be conditional because children born here are automatically citizens. (h/t Think Progress)

Todd was…told, “Under the guidance that was provided to states, under the previous administration, there is a technical guidance letter that states that for covering the unborn child, we are not permitted to determine citizenship, because the child, once born, is a U.S. citizen.”

Rep. Todd responded: “Well, they can go out there like rats and …

Deficit Commission Staffed With Large Number Of Anti-Entitlement Lobbyists

The commission charged with finding ways to solve our economic woes is being charged with bias for staffing that includes many members of anti-entitlement groups. How independent can any “independent commission” be when staffers have an outside agenda based on who they work for?

Many of its employees aren’t employed by the panel at all.

Instead, about one in four commission staffers is paid by outside entities, many of which have strong ideological points of view about how to tackle the deficit.

For example, the salaries of two senior staffers, Marc Goldwein and Ed Lorenzen, are paid by private …

Why There Is No Apostrophe In “Veterans Day”

6a00d83451f4a069e2011279090cd328a4-800wi

Why is it not “Veteran’s Day” or “Veterans’ Day”? Professor Pat Okker at the University of Missouri explains:

  • The first variation, “Veteran’s,” uses the singular noun in its possessive case, suggesting that the day ‘belongs’ to each veteran.
  • The second variant, “Veterans’,” is the plural noun in the possessive case, which suggests that the day belongs to all veterans.
  • The third variation, “Veterans,” is attributive, meaning the word functions as an adjective rather than a possessive noun.
  • By Professor Okker’s measure, No. 3 is the superlative choice.

“Since the first example (Veteran’s Day) would refer to only one veteran, …

Now That Pat Sajak Apologized For Presenting Keith Olbermann, What About Limbaugh?

    Limbaugh-300x218

Tommy Christopher at Mediaite suggests that if Pat Sajak wants to do a mea culpa for an early career boost to Keith Olberamann, perhaps he should fess up about the same for Rush Limbaugh. Olbermann hit back at Sajak after Sajak felt the need to apologize to the world for presenting Olbermann, and called him a “bitter-sounding, hate-mongering name-caller.”

First of all, if Keith Olbermann qualifies as a “bitter-sounding, hate-mongering name-caller”, then surely the man whose latest, greatest hits include calling President Obama a “Jackass” and “Imam Obamadenijad” rates an even more profuse apology. Not only did Sajak have Rush …

    A Personal Veterans Day

    veterans_day_2010

    by James Frye

Every time this holiday rolls around my thoughts go to my late Dad.  Looking through my family history, service to our country is a family tradition.  Growing up, I ran across photos and memories from my family’s past ranging from a Grandfather proudly posing in uniform from World War I to stories of life in the armed services from uncles, cousins and other relations.  My brother and I both enlisted in the US Navy and served honorably – neither of us are combat vets.

However, my Dad still stands out when I hear or see the word “veteran.”   He grew …

The Tea Party’s Biggest Victory: Keeping Bristol Palin On “Dancing With The Stars”

    Bristol-Palin-Dancing-With-The-Stars-1

The judges may not think Bristol Palin is worthy of making the finals on DWTS, but votes pouring in from tea partiers is trumping that. (h/t Political Wire). Palin tied for the worst score, yet stays alive.

“There’s a strong popular movement behind Sarah Palin at the moment and she’s receiving a lot of support from the Tea Party,” Conrad Green, executive producer of the program, said in a Nov. 4 interview. “It’s entirely possible some of those people are behind Bristol for political reasons.”

During the taping of the Nov. 8 show, the 20-year-old Palin wore a …

    Blue Dog Blues

    blue_dog

    by Stuart Shapiro

Losing elections prompts self-examination.  And no one is better at turning self-examination into circular firing squads than the Democratic Party.  There is a current debate (war?) being waged between the centrists and the moderates for who to blame for the disaster (and therefore which way to go next).  Weighing in on the left, most eloquently is Ari Berman:

…a handful of the loudest and staunchest apostate Democrats, who voted against nearly every one of Barack Obama’s signature priorities, were doing more harm than good. They brought the party nothing in terms of legislative votes and only …
