Some of her staff now appear to be putting the pieces in place in case Palin does decide to run. One of the aides, who only eats kosher food, told a local rabbi he was looking into longer term arrangements in Iowa.

“He was looking to be able to accommodate the needs of those coming down looking to set up shop here for campaigning in …

GOP Wants What They Think Is Best For Them, Not For The Country

boehner-mcconnell

It becomes more obvious every day that Republicans care not about what is best for America, but rather about what is going to obstruct progress, impede Democrats, and hurt the White House. Paul Krugman chronicles a series of such indicators, beginning with the debt commission’s Alan Simpson.

“I can’t wait for the blood bath in April. … When debt limit time comes, they’re going to look around and say, ‘What in the hell do we do now? We’ve got guys who will not approve the debt limit extension unless we give ’em a piece of meat, real meat,’ ” meaning …

mike-lee-1-cropped-proto-custom_2

Speaking to the Federalist Society, Utah’s Senator-Elect Mike Lee vows he will stick to the original text and intent of the Constitution when casting votes.

“I will not vote for a single piece of legislation that I can’t reconcile with the text and the original understanding of the U.S. Constitution,” he said.

“Stated differently, if I can’t imagine myself explaining to James Madison with a straight face why what I was doing was consistent with the text and history of the constitution as it’s been amended all 27 times, I’ll vote no. I’ll do it every single time regardless of what …

data

Warren Buffett, in an interview scheduled to air on ABC’s “This Week” November 28, says the wealthy should pay much more in taxes.

“If anything, taxes for the lower and middle class and maybe even the upper middle class should even probably be cut further…But I think that people at the high end — people like myself — should be paying a lot more in taxes. We have it better than we’ve ever had it…The rich are always going to say that, you know, just give us more money and we’ll go out and spend more and then it …

Will Republicans Obstruct START Treaty?

z_carousel_370x278

President Obama says Republicans standing in the way of a nuclear treaty with Russia are abandoning Ronald Regan’s tenet, “Trust, but verify.”

The Senate’s GOP leader accused his Democratic counterparts of wasting Congress’ lame-duck session on issues from gays in the military to environment regulations. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., didn’t mention Obama’s push to ratify the new START weapons treaty with Russia, but said extending expiring Bush-era tax cuts needed to be the top priority.

Republicans Dick Lugar, Henry Kissinger, Colin Powell, Jim Baker and George Schultz support it, and a new Congress would have to start over in January.…

Common Man John Boehner Doesn’t Have To Bother With Security Pat-Downs

Unknown

House Speaker-to-be John Boehner bragged about how he would fly commercial, a not-so-subtle dig at Nancy Pelosi about the the phony story that she demanded big aircraft. But Boehner isn’t going to be bothered with the treatment we mere mortals receive, as he is able to avoid the pat-down.

As he left Washington on Friday, Mr. Boehner headed across the Potomac River to Reagan National Airport, which was bustling with afternoon travelers. But there was no waiting in line for Mr. Boehner, who was escorted around the metal detectors and body scanners, and taken directly to the gate.

Mr. …

Yale Economist Models 2012 Election And Obama Wins

fair

Yale Economist Ray C. Fair has done the statistical modeling, and the results show that President Obama is likely a shoo-in for reelection (h/t Taegan Goddard). It boils down to what the economy will look like as the next presidential election approaches.

“The model certainly suggests that if the economy is good and improving as an election approaches, it’s very difficult to defeat an incumbent president,” he said. At the root of his conclusion is an economic forecast: he expects a significant improvement in the American economy by 2012.

While growth is relatively weak today, prices in financial …

bilde

The Rev. Cedric Miller of the Living Word Christian Fellowship Church in Neptune, NJ, who told church leaders to either delete their Facebook accounts or resign, testified in a court case that he had a three-way relationship with his wife and a male church assistant. Sometimes, he testified, the assistant’s wife was present, too.

“It has come to my attention that a very painful part of my past has resurfaced,” Miller said in an e-mail response Friday, stating that the same testimony was mailed to his church leaders and other pastors a number of years ago.
