Sabotage, Treason And Other High Crimes

art.boehner.mcconnell.gi_

by Stuart Shapiro

Usually when Paul Krugman writes about politics (as opposed to economics) I wince.  He analyzes politics like one would expect a Nobel Prize winner in economics to (he assumes those that think differently than him are irrational, stupid, or criminal).  However, his column yesterday made eminent sense to me (blogged by Alan here).  Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has already stated his goal is a one-term Obama presidency.  If that is the goal and a bad economy is the best way to ensure it, doesn’t it logically follow that McConnell is in favor of a bad economy?  Steve …

13534628_BG2

Cathy Bossi, who has been a flight attendant for 32 years, was forced to remove her prosthetic breast during a TSA patdown.

In early August Bossie was walking through security when she says she was asked to go through the new full body-scanners at Concourse “D” at Charlotte Douglas International.

She reluctantly agreed. As a 3-year breast cancer survivor she says she didn’t want the added radiation through her body. But, Bossi says she did agree.

“The T.S.A. Agent told me to put my I.D. on my back,” she said. “When I got out of there she said because my …

Pope Says Condom Use Okay For Male Prostitutes

51OtSkdt9iL._SL500_AA300_

Pope Benedict XVI says in a new book that condom use is appropriate for male prostitutes to stop the spread of HIV.

The pope made the comments in a book-length interview with a German journalist, “Light of the World: The Pope, the Church and the Signs of the Times,” which is being released Tuesday. The Vatican newspaper ran excerpts on Saturday.

Church teaching has long opposed condoms because they are a form of artificial contraception, although it has never released an explicit policy about condoms and HIV. The Vatican has been harshly criticized for its opposition.

Benedict said that condoms …

London Mayor To George W. Bush: Stay Out Of London; Compares Him To Pinochet

Boris-Johnson1

London Mayor Boris Johnson says if Bush goes to the other side of the pond to promote his book, book signings would turn into anti-war riots and he might never see Texas again.

One moment he might be holding forth to a great perspiring tent at Hay-on-Wye. The next moment, click, some embarrassed member of the Welsh constabulary could walk on stage, place some handcuffs on the former leader of the Free World, and take him away to be charged. Of course, we are told this scenario is unlikely. Dubya is the former leader of a friendly power, with whom …

Grover Norquist Thinks Government Shutdown Would Be Good For GOP

NorquistBear

Americans for Tax Reform head Grover Norquist says it would be a good idea for Republicans to force a government shutdown to show how responsible they are. Norquist emphasizes that any government shutdown is the fault of the president.

The president “will be less popular if — in the service of overspending and wasting people’s money — he closes the government down, as opposed to now, when he’s just wasting people’s money.”

“There’s now a Fox television network. There’s now the Internet, in a way there wasn’t back then. So … when Bill Clinton vetoed the budget and closed …

Palin Accuses Obamas Of Spending Too Much Time Listening To A Preacher’s “Rants Against America And White People”

2010-11-19-americabyheart392x600

In another leak from Sarah Palin’s new book, the former governor takes aim at Barack and Michelle Obama, questioning their love of country and whether they were too influenced by someone she regards as anti-white.

In leaked extracts of her new book, Mrs Palin delves into the minefield of racial politics, arguing that the first African American US president is among those who regarded the conservative tea party movement as racially prejudiced and who thinks that “America is a fundamentally unjust and unequal country”.

As proof, she dredged up a quote from a 2008 campaign speech in which Mrs Obama …

Pope Says Health Care Is “Inalienable Right”; A “Moral Responsibility” Of Governments

20100428cnsbr00790_web

Pope Benedict XVI and other church leaders say it is the moral responsibility of governments to provide access to health care to all. (h/t Think Progress)

Access to adequate medical attention, the pope said in a written message Nov. 18, was one of the “inalienable rights” of man.

The pope’s message was read by Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Vatican secretary of state, to participants at the 25th International Conference of the Pontifical Council for Health Care Ministry at the Vatican Nov. 18-19.

“The care of man, his transcendent dignity and his inalienable rights” are issues that should concern Christians, …

Sharron Angle: The Gift That Keeps On Giving

SharronAngle1

by Stuart Shapiro

So when does the statute of limitations expire on making fun of crazy Republican 2010 candidates?  Obviously Joe Miller is still fair game since he is still protesting the Alaska election despite pleas from the Republican Party for him to stop.  How about Sharron Angle?  I hope her behavior gives us enough to go on until at least the end of 2010.  Especially since revelations are still coming out about her campaign, reports Jon Ralston.

Team Angle put campaign volunteers through a three-hour indoctrination. Included was an instruction of what to do if anyone came into the …
